Last week, Conyers, an African American Democrat, said he would hold congressional hearings on the case.
"There should not even be allegations of unequal justice based on race or any other factors. This case brings to light what could be a national trend and the Judiciary Committee should explore that," Conyers said.
Sharpton has also called for Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco to have state police investigate threats being made against the Jena Six families.
The families have been bombarded with death threats after a white supremacist Web site allegedly published their addresses and phone numbers. The FBI is investigating the posting. Sharpton said some of the families have received almost around the clock harassment.

According to a news release from Sharpton, Bell's attorneys are pursuing his immediate release after a judge last week to refused to release him, despite having his conviction overturned by a higher court earlier this month.
Bell has been in jail the entire year, unable to meet his $90,000 bond.
The backlash has not been limited to threats against the Jean Six families. There's a report of noose-hanging copy cats in North Carolina. And not long after the rally on Thursday, two men were arrested outside of Jena who were seen driving a pickup with two nooses hanging off the back. One man was charged with inciting a riot.
Meanwhile, The Associated Press ran a piece Monday that sought to clear up some facts surrounding the Jena Six case that have been misreported by the media at large, among the items the AP pointed out:
_The so-called "white tree" at Jena High was congregated by both black and white students at one time or another, according to teachers and school administrators. (However, some black students have argued this fact.)
_ Two nooses, not three, were found dangling from the tree last year. (Does it matter if there were two or 20?)
_The three white youths accused of hanging the nooses were suspended for three days, then they were isolated at an alternative school for about a month, and then given an in-school suspension for two weeks. (However, the police were never called and a report was never made.)

Al Sharpton: It is too bad he had to take a small town incident and turn it into a nationwide hate fest. Everyone looses as Al and Conyers try to make themselves a part of history. There is racism in every color and every income level. Al has to constantly stir things up where folks feel they have to choose a race to support, instead of bringing folks together he is tearing a nation apart. It hurts the innocent.

Stop the violence against one another. Stop the hate. Each person needs to do their part in creating equality and peace. You can thank folks like: Snoop Dog, The Game, Trick Daddy, Foxy Brown,DMX, Busta Rymes, Lil Wayne, Ja Rule, Remy Ma, Young Jazzy, Eve, Tony Yayo, Kid Rock, Jadakiss, Young Buck, Fabolous, Eminem, OJ, Brittney,Paris, Lindsey...so many good examples and we wonder what is wrong with our children.

I spoke with a good neighbor of mine, a older and wiser southern gentleman who said to me as we spoke about the Jena 6 case and other atrocities that are taking place in the world, "You can make laws, but you cannot legislate love". Love is the answer but it does not mean you have to like everyone. Learning to love starts with loving God and if you love God you will share that love with everyone else. Does this mean that everyone will come together and sit under the same table? No, Loving everyone is respecting their right to exist as they are as long as they do not threaten your existence. I care not what any man, woman, or child thinks of me on a certain level because I know that I am a child of God and everyone has their preferences. I strongly believe in Live and Let Live and this is essentially what We as African Americans have been demanding all along, Live and Let Live, Live and Let Live, Live and Let Live! Without embrace of this simple law, there will be No Justice, and if there is No Justice, there will be No Peace! WHEN WILL HUMANITY LEARN!?

It is time for US BLACKS TO STAND TOGETHER more not only just for this JENA 6 but forever. Lets show them that we will not be at the bottom of the list forever. it is time for us YOUNG BLACKS TO SHOW WHITES WE CAN HAVE THE SAME THING THEY HAVE AND MORE.
IT IS TIME FOR US TO SHOW THEM WE ARE NOT IGNORANT ALTHOUGH WE ARE WELL EDUCATED. YOUNG BLACK MEN Pull up your pants THE CHAIN GANG days are over and show them we stand for the good and not the evil. Jesus has paid for all our BEATEN and there should be no more. WE HAVE CAME to far by faith to turn around. OUR BLACK FAMILY in the past died for us to STAND UP.
Stop taking life for granted. Begin to think when our family didn't have anything in the past but LOOK AT US NOW. U.S. is racist all around; some states just hide it more than others. they always have said that majority of us are in jail when they have more child molesters, drug users, Government check receiving, and prostitution than we do.
Every time you turn around one of them getting busted online for having kids porn in their hard drive. THEY SLEEP WITH THEIR ANIMALS BUT ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT US being ignorant. ITS TIME FOR PEACE. I WILL NOT GIVE UP BECAUSE JESUS HAVE HIS TIME SET FOR THEM ALL.
ALL THESE TORNADOS, HURRICANES, FIRES, TRAIN CRASHES, THEY GETTING STUCK in the MINE, SMALL PLANE CRASHES, TROUBLE WITH THE SPACE SHUTTLE AND FLOODS SHOULD GIVE THEM A WAKE UP CALL TO KNOW GOD IS GETTING TIRED BUT THEY ARE TO IGNORANT TO SEE.

After my Jena Six column was posted, it also appeared on several websites, and many of the comments offered were expectedly negative. I also received emails with similar sentiments. I replied to some of the more level-headed, and even gave them my home phone number and invited them to call me over the weekend so we could converse in an atmosphere less abrupt than a website forum. The only condition: please don't call during the Patriots-Jets game.
I didn't receive one phone call.
However, I did receive many emails about stories the media and blaxploitation participants avoid. One such story was about the murders of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom. According to an article by James H. Lilley…
"On Saturday January 6, 2007 Hugh Christopher Newsom, age 23 and Channon Gail Christian, age 21, both students at the University of Tennessee went out on a date. They were driving in Channon's Toyota 4-Runner when they were carjacked at gunpoint. Suddenly the crime turned far more savage than an armed car theft. Chris and Channon were kidnapped and driven to 2316 Chipman Street where they were forced into the home at gunpoint. While Channon was forced to watch, her boyfriend was raped prison style and then his penis was cut off. He was later driven to nearby railroad tracks where he was shot and set afire. But Channon's hell was just beginning. She was beaten; gang raped repeatedly in many ways, had one of her breasts cut off and bleach poured down her throat to destroy DNA evidence – all while she was still alive. To add to Channon's degradation the suspects took turns urinating on her. They too set her body afire, apparently inside the residence, but for some reason left her body there – in five separate trash bags…."
The difference between the Jena Six sentencing outage and the murders of these two young people were that the Jena Six are black and were targeted by a white district attorney. Christian and Newsom were white and killed by Blacks. When race is brought into the mix, that's where we have media coverage problems.
Because of political correctness, we aren't allowed to look at crime as just that, crime. When a racial component is introduced, that's when the traditional responses and excuses are displayed and God help anyone who strays from that playbook.
One can't talk about black-on-black crime, which is a huge unreported problem, especially in New Orleans. That's considered "airing dirty laundry" and you risk the typical vitriolic onslaught. One can't talk about black-on-white crime because that's racially insensitive. However, you can go to the mountain top and scream all day about white-on-black crime, because that's the perfect forum for bringing up the legacy of Jim Crow, slavery, and point the finger of individual responsibility away from the criminals and back onto society as a whole. Should I bring it up, I become Uncle Bob again.

Racism/prejudice/discrimintaion runs both ways. NOT ALL WHITE PEOPLE THINK AND ACT LIKE THAT. Retaliation is one thing, but regressing to narrow mindedness and perpetuating stereotypes perpetuates the problem.

My thoughts on the jena six case is beyond racism. I see the act of evill upon our black people in this country. My prayers goes out to the jena family, and hope we black people can keep the the great speeches, wisdom, advices, that our forfathers left us behind. Let us not fall by the evil doers but let they doings keep us more righteous in the eyes of the most high.

okay, enough already....we have polluted our race, everytime, one of us intermingles with one of them, there is an assimilation and soon, like the Bible says, there will be a new race...and then when the revolution comes...and it's coming, whose side will they choose...we will not see the enemy 'cause we been sleepin' with the enemy...and it ain't just happened...overnight...it's getting so bad, they startin' to look like us...leave those folks alone, and let us get back to basics...they are for one thing and one thing only...enslavement...not with shackles and chains this time...oh they using a whole different tactic...hips and lips...and coppertone....be aware of it and be very afraid...we got a racial mess on our hands and it's going to be difficult to know whose who! Now the question is...whose going to clean up this mess we've made? And how? Let's begin some dialouge that includes solutions...not just whinny rhetoric. we've heard it all before...now what we gonna do about it? huh?
