While last week's demonstration of thousands for the Jena Six in Louisiana obviously prompted action seven days later, it could not pardon the teen, who was originally charged with attempted murder in the beating of a classmate.

Bell will return to juvenile court Tuesday, charged with aggravated second-degree battery.
Bell was released on $45,000 bail Thursday after the prosecutor dropped an attempt to try the 17-year-old as an adult on charges of aggravated second-degree battery in the beating of a white classmate, according to The Associated Press.
"Mychal can go home. But Mychal is not out of the juvenile process," the Rev. Al Sharpton said Thursday, standing next to Bell at a news conference in front of the Jena courthouse.
Bell's conviction as an adult was thrown out earlier this month by an appeals court, which ruled Bell could not be tried as an adult. According to the AP, that decision led to Bell's release. But one day after the Jena demonstration, another judge refused to release Bell or lower his $90,000 bond that his family was unable to meet.
District Attorney Reed Walters has been criticized for prosecuting blacks more harshly than whites and for not pressing charges against white teens who hung nooses from a schoolyard tree months before the racially charged fight that sparked the Jena Six case. Remember, Walters was the one who first charged some of the teens with attempted murder.
Also this week, the Congressional Black Caucus talked about getting the Justice Department involved to investigate civil rights violations in the case.
The families of the Jena Six have been hit with death threats after a white supremacist Web site allegedly published their addresses and phone numbers. The FBI is investigating the matter.

I couldn't be more happy that Mychal Bell has finally been released! The things that the prosecutor said at that press conference further proved that he is such a racist! To suggest that there was a "divine intervention" to prevent a "disaster last Thursday" is just crazy! Someone must've forgotten that when Black folks were marching for civil rights decades ago it was white folks who were attacking them with police dogs and opening fire extinguishers on men, women, children and the elderly! I'm so sick of these racist people who forget their own ugly, disgusting history...but I'm sure that Reed will be reunited with all his racist kin of generations past in hell.

Its great to see him out on bond, but now the real battle is set. He should get time served for this misdemeanor battery and return to school so he can graduate. This atrocity has not only cost them their freedom but it makes their chances of getting a job a lot more difficult. Employers ask the question of whether you've been arrested before and we know how whites perceive blacks. But I'm with you my young brother and wish you well.

Investigation of KKK and white hate groups should really be investigated, lets not forget what happened when the people from New Orleans tried to cross the bridge to escape the flood caused by katrina, who was holding the guns causing the death of many.I am really happy that this young man has been realeased, but to call attention to the plight of all this racist corruption by police, and so called goverment officials we must engage in economic boycott, maybe those who ignore our plight will be forced to listen.

Dick (head)
What free stuff do we get from the government but a ride to jail and 3 meals a day? This is not making another OJ out of our youth, this is standing up for equality. Did you ever wonder why the white kids that beat up the young black men at a party was never punished? Do you know any of the extinuating facts regarding the case? This is not about racism, this is just simply standing up for what's right. Inequallity is not right. Either the Jena 6 should go free like the other white kids that beat people up or the white kids should be locked up like the Jena 6 for beating up that young black man and hanging the nooses. It's that simple...

This is just one of many racial incidents that plainly reiterates that racism is still alive and kicking. Hopefully this is a wake up call to ALL Black People for us to unite and re-build a strong foundation in regards to US as a people, heritage, and culture.
What many races forget is that America was built off the sweat of Black People. However, still today we are treated as the bottom people on the Totem Pole.
I pray this situation produces the strength, power, and determination we lack as a people, in order for us to get the respect, equality, and justice we deserve.

To Dick: Unfortunately the 1st amendment defends against stupid ass comments such as yours. Once again this case was about justice not whether or not he was innocent. Al, regardless of how much you disagree with him, is a black man defending a black child against a miscarriage of justice. Your white establishment is already in place, so why would white kid refer to Al for legal advice. Let's be real idiot. These boys did nothing to these prejudice ass white boys until they were provoked. Now, when his back-up wasn't available, he got his ass whipped and probably well deserved. You don't charge attempted murder when the so-called victim walks out 3hrs later. Thats a misdemeanor in any competent courtroom. Now take your sorry ass back to your trailer and finish screwing your sister...
