While last week's demonstration of thousands for the Jena Six in Louisiana obviously prompted action seven days later, it could not pardon the teen, who was originally charged with attempted murder in the beating of a classmate.

Bell will return to juvenile court Tuesday, charged with aggravated second-degree battery.
Bell was released on $45,000 bail Thursday after the prosecutor dropped an attempt to try the 17-year-old as an adult on charges of aggravated second-degree battery in the beating of a white classmate, according to The Associated Press.
"Mychal can go home. But Mychal is not out of the juvenile process," the Rev. Al Sharpton said Thursday, standing next to Bell at a news conference in front of the Jena courthouse.
Bell's conviction as an adult was thrown out earlier this month by an appeals court, which ruled Bell could not be tried as an adult. According to the AP, that decision led to Bell's release. But one day after the Jena demonstration, another judge refused to release Bell or lower his $90,000 bond that his family was unable to meet.
District Attorney Reed Walters has been criticized for prosecuting blacks more harshly than whites and for not pressing charges against white teens who hung nooses from a schoolyard tree months before the racially charged fight that sparked the Jena Six case. Remember, Walters was the one who first charged some of the teens with attempted murder.
Also this week, the Congressional Black Caucus talked about getting the Justice Department involved to investigate civil rights violations in the case.
The families of the Jena Six have been hit with death threats after a white supremacist Web site allegedly published their addresses and phone numbers. The FBI is investigating the matter.

That guy Dick is truly a Dick!!!!!!! He also could use an elementary education again. I hope one day racism could just be done with. That is not going to happen though so all people should be thankful there are strong political figures out there to try to eliminate some of the racism that still exists.
My prayers are with the families of the Jena 6

I fought during the civil rights movement for what some of you have taken for granted all these years. You have all let Dr. king dream partially slip away. Now everyone wants to start a national movement like they are really doing something. We should have kept up the fight while we had them on the run. Now we have to start all over again. And to "DICK" I won't even stoop that low to comment to you, because your time will come.

I agree that Dick has an appropriate name. It's that type of mentality that makes young whites believe that they can still intimidate blacks. This is 2007, they need to let that KKK mentality go. Blacks are not going to stand for it. And if we don't stand as a whole against it, we'll fall or "hang" for anything.

This case just shows that RACISM still exists in the 21st century. Had this been about white kids beating up black kids, there wouldn't have been a trial. The judicial system in this country is corrupt and has been since it was created. In the words of Dr. King, a person should be judged by the content of their character, not by the color of their skin. The boys who hung the nooses from the tree should have been punished as well. If it had not been for their actions, none of this probably would have happened. Some white poeple walk around talking about how much they hate black people and how distgusting we are, but they are the ones who brought us to America in the first place. So if you hate anyone for us being here, hate yourselves. If black is so bad, why were slave owners raping black women and creating children mixed with black and white blood? Why were black women breast feeding their master's children because their wives had issues so to speak. This entire nation needs to wake up and see the truth. There is no such thing as liberty and justice for all if your skin isn't lilly white.

Sue them and then open up a school that has diversity.....1865 did not give Blacks complete equality, its a myth and it needs to be re=addressed in the supreme Court of America....

I too would like to know what were the white boys charged that hung the nooses in the tree? How do you get attempted murder out of a school yard brawl? Does the proscuting attorney still have his job?

This Nation is divided because we keep talking about "RACE". There is only ONE race and thats' the Human race. Why not try colors and see how far we get.

My sixteen year old son was sent to adult prison for 11 year.(1992-2003), his charges were bogus, no one was injured, wounder or killed. I asked Rev Sharpton and Jackson for help. My cry when on death ear. If they would had listen to the cries of a group of Mothers in Los Angeles in 1992 known as Mother's ROC. Perhaps there would have not been a JENA6 in 2007. I support the Jena6, and know the pain. I weeped for joy when I saw Michale Bell walk out of jail. I know what that joy feels like. My son is now home and off of parole, he has a lot of psychological scars, he cannot vote, he was denied good jobs. However, with your prays and God grace he will make it. I wore my black on September 27, and attended a rally for the Jena6 in Los Angeles. I hope this movement will continue so my Grandchildren will live in a county where liberty and justice for all is true. I found out the hard way that justice or mercy was not in america courts for young black youths.
