CNN will air a segment on how the violent symbol of the noose has resurfaced. "The Noose: An American Nightmare."
But does CNN really understand whose "noose nightmare" this is exactly? Did CNN consider the possibility of more copycats by highlighting the incidents? The program will look at its history of hatred, the Columbia University noose incident, one with the Coast Guard, a noose hanging at Maryland University and the Jena Six, which brought this racist tool of expression and violence back into the spotlight.
Kyra Phillips reports on the re-emergence of nooses. Phillips is white, but first off, Phillips is a good journalist and her race does not matter in that regard. She covered Katrina, 9-11 and some of the biggest stories in America over the last few years.
But could a black reporter bring more meaning and a perspective that a white reporter could not?
Or would an African American journalist disenfranchise a certain audience who thinks he or she is just black and biased?Who knows if CNN asked these questions before filming the segment. Those are tough questions and it's much easier to just roundup all the recent noose cases and report on them.
Having one of CNN's African American reporters deliver this story could have painted a clear picture of the terrifying message that nooses have really sent through the black community. That message is one of fear, racism, death, history and hatred.
That story has not been reported. And neither has the story on how these hate crimes have gone unpunished.

The noose is a symbol of an ugly past, but it's no worse than "The N-word." It's a physical manifestation of the anger, resentment, and the corrupt legal system that gave life to the racial tension; but nobody's neck is inside that noose. There is still time to avoid the unnessary and sensless violence that it represents. It's a symbol being sent to represent the widespread frustration and divisions that selfish politician and selective enforcement of the law support. Imagine a world led by Sharpton, Jackson, Cosby, Oprah, and Obama? Now picture a world led by John Edwards and this crew. I'd start donating to Edwards today if you really want to avoid the racial divisions and tensions of the past. Clinton doesn't care and Obama can be linked to this fear and hate. We need to build a bridge for us all. Think about it and "Show Edwards the Money!"

Oh Lord, why is the media intent on keeping everything stirred up. It's like they want to keep kicking the red ant pile.

It looks like CNN needs a ratings boost at the expense of unity in America.

Cecil Jones, voting for Edwards will not prevent ignorant people from hating and dividing; intelligent people will vote their candidate of choice no matter how many nooses swing. We are a brave bunch! Good try though!

I will definitely watch the program tonight. Knowledge is power. The sight of the noose, as well as the confederate flag and swastika symbols still cause a momentary stutter in the hearts of us who remember the era of fear, but we are no longer paralyzed and frightened as we once were. Legally defend by whatever means are necessary!

The real story is "WHATCHA GONE DO WHEN THEY COME FOR YOU?" We as Black people are really in no condition or position to defend ourselves if America decides to reinstate slavery. What if they did start "noosing" us again. I know I am being a little extreme, but what if they decide that they had enough of black people & decide to put us in concentration camps like they did the Arabs in the movie "The Seige" with Denzell Washington? What if America decides to send those military helicopter gunships in our communities and started shooting everybody? Would protesting, marching or boycotting solve the problem? Would giving public speeches and emotional outcrys keep us from danger?
AS A RACE, BLACK PEOPLE OFFER AMERICA NO TANGIBLE ASSETS. WE ARE CONSUMERS & NOT PRODUCERS OF ANYTHING. IF AMERICA STOPS SUPPLYING US WITH TOILET PAPER, WE CANT EVEN PRODUCE TOILET PAPER TO WIPE OUR OWN BACK SIDES. IF AMERICA STOP FEEDING US, WE HAVE NO FARMS OR FACTORIES TO PROVIDE FOOD FOR OUR PEOPLE. WE ARE COMPLETELY DEPENDENT ON AMERICA TO FEED, CLOTHE & SHELTER US. THAT IS WHAT MARCUS GARVEY PREACHED AS WELL AS MALCOLM X.
"Do for self" and we could provide food, clothing and all the essential things in life that a civilized nation of people should be doing for themselves. We could also provide protection from anyone ever hanging or lyching us ever again. THINK ABOUT THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ Toka Smoka
If they did decide to wipe us all out, I believe Cosby would be right there telling them they're doing the right thing by committing genocide, and that we "deserve" to die. We'll never progress because we are too divided.
I do believe that CNN is trying to capitalize at our expense in this case. I'll be watching though.

Racism has always been here. Only a fool would think it would disappear. You have racism among whites, blacks and all races. You can pass all the laws you want but it will never go away. I don't know why people only thinks racism is blacks only. You can't legislate human feelings, and I mean all races.
