It has been confirmed that Dr. Donda West, mother of rap superstar Kanye West, died from "complications due to plastic surgery."

As days have passed and as more and more information has emerged, Dr. West's tragic death is almost a text book case of what NOT to do when having elective surgery.
Dr. West, 58, a former college educator, was co-founder and chair of the Kanye West Foundation at the time of her death.
She had known medical issues, possibly a thyroid and/or heart condition, and was reportedly turned away by another plastic surgeon because he wanted her to get clearance from her internist, which she did not. (TMZ.com)
West instead went to Dr. Jan Adams, who briefly hosted TV show, 'The Other Half' and a Discovery Channel health program, for a tummy tuck and breast reduction. Adams paid two patients almost $500,000 to settle two malpractice suits in 2001.
According to TMZ.com, Donda West's operation lasted eight hours -- twice as long as it should have. In addition, instead of sending Ms. West to a recovery center, she was sent home, where she died a day after her surgery, and before paramedics arrived.
As it turns out, not only is Dr. Adams not Board Certified with the American Board of Plastic Surgery, but he currently has a bevy of open malpractice suits, including allegations of sexual battery and physical assault, DUI convictions and pending disciplinary action from the California Medical Board.
In an initial statement Adams said that West's death was "unforeseen and could have been caused by a heart attack, pulmonary embolism, or massive vomiting."
An autopsy performed on November 13 will officially determine Dr. Donda West's cause of death. Funeral arrangements are reportedly scheduled for Tuesday, November 20 in Oklahoma.

It is my perception that unless you are born with grotesque deformity or acquire a grotesque deformity, why would a person need plastic surgery? One thing that disturbs me in regards to this whole sordid mess is the way the defining aspects of self-confidence have been corrupted. I am 53 years of age and when I grew up I was taught that self-confidence is something that comes from within in deference to circumstances that are without or outside of a person. How can anything that is done externally improve self-confidence in the truest sense of the word? For example, if i get a tummy tuck today and for some reason it gives out tommorow, do I go from being a self-confident individual to one who has no confidence?
There is no quick way to beauty and beauty in and of itself is a concept that is subjective and varies from culture to culture. West's mom was a good looking woman to me and I cannot imagine with all of her major accomplishments as a Black woman in this society why she would think that at 58 years of age she needed to get a tummy tuck. My heart goes out to her family. This is a tragedy in the truest sense of the word. I hope that other women who are contemplating such notions wake up and learn to love themselves as they are. My other question is if doctors are under a oath to do no harm how do we include plastic surgery in that picture.

That Doctor must be oust asap! he didn't look out for Mrs West's true health condition. If K. West is as smart as he shows in his music yes should do everything in his power to use this Mal-practicing doctorJan Adams, (a nigga will doing anything for the love of money) but a BLACK MAN or WOMAN with compassion would do whats smart and not place a price on prensiple. Kanya...Go after this man! he did not care about your mothers healt when he sent her home knowing she was supose to go to a recovery clinic. Get him home boybecause when your mother is out of the way of him he's going to do it again! tust and beleive.

Why are they calling her a DR? She is not a DR! No one but a person that goes through yrs of college should ever be called DR PERIOD! If she was a DR she would have used more of her common sense and not had the plastic surgery.
Don't get me wrong its sad and my heart goes out to Mr West I know what it's like to lose a mother before her time.

First I would like to say that my heart goes out to Kayne, family, and friends of Ms.West. I read some of the emails that others submitted they're ok,but right now I know you don't want to hear those kinds of comments. I am an only child that was raised by both parents and my mother passed away Halloween 2006 til this day it is hard. You will have more good days than bad life keeps going but you will never stop thinking about her. God Bless You,stay strong.(Kamilah Americus,GA)
