Traditionally, when a plaintiff seeks compensation, the common adage in the legal world is to "aim high and negotiate down." So now an unidentified individual, who filed their complaint from a trailer park community in Baker, Louisiana, is suing the government for the astronomical fee of three quadrillion dollars -- that's fifteen zeroes.
It looks something like this: $3,000,000,000,000,000. Yeah, I know what you're thinking; Dr. Evil didn't even ask for that much!!!
Other Hurricane Katrina victims have also estimated the costs of their loses in claims to the federal government with some comparatively surreptitious figures (only 247 claims for at least $1 billion a piece). So far, 489,000 claims have been filed totaling $3,014,170,389,176,410, keep the change.
Whether they're bogus or delusional made claims, there is symbolism in that the government cannot pay enough money for the amount of suffering and losses it could have prevented, had the levees been secure.
Of those seeking money is the city of New Orleans, which has filed a claim for $77 billion dollars. Others on the list include insurance companies, businesses and wrongful death complaints.
With over 1,600 deaths reported in Louisiana and Mississippi, the memory of the storm is still fresh in the minds of many. The storm, which destroyed homes and crippled many businesses in the Gulf Coast states has costs billions.
Despite the fact that the deadline set by the US army Corps to coincide with the passing of the second anniversary of Katrina has passed already, claims are still arriving and being accepted.
The Corps said it isn't passing judgment on the merits of each claim. Federal courts are in charge of deciding if a claim is valid and how much compensation is warranted.
"It's important to the person who filed it, so we're taking every single claim seriously," Corps spokeswoman Amanda Jones said. According to the Associated Press.
And if you were wondering, the Gross National Product of the US is only $13.2 trillion dollars, so no, it would not be possible to accommodate a $3 quadrillion dollar claim. You know... just in case you were curious.

So, how long is long enough to get your shit together? There were THOUSANDS of Haitians, Vietnamese, Cubans and Koreans that came here with NOTHING and the great majority are doing well now after getting here not even knowing the language. They pooled together and worked their butts off to make it work. Anyone from the gulf reigon knows how the Vietnamese have thrived in the fishing industry.
Anyone see the condition of the FEMA trailers after they were provided for free? They were trashed, ruined and are useless now. Youre welcome. Don't ask for more when you shit on what you were given before.

I wouldn't need a quartrillion to live happily. If I had that much money, I could pay to have the 9th ward in New Orleans rebuilt by myself and furnish all the houses with some of the most expensive furnishings known to man. I could never spend that much money. The interest alone would keep building until there was too much money to fathom.

Just more people in Louisiana looking for a handout. How about they get off welfare and get a job like the rest of us? Maybe if they had a job, they wouldn't have all that time to fill out bogus claims.

Oh come on now. That amount of money will force every working american, the disabled, senior and retired to
increase their taxes for life. Katrina was a tragedy true enough and I feel for the less fortunate people
directly effected but what about the majority who've
been given the opportunity to NOT work or PAY rent for OVER a YEAR? They didn't go to school and since moving into OUR cities; WON'T GO HOME! I have read so much about FEMA CHECK FRAUD since Katrina, it has
totally pissed me and many others off. Now it's time for Katrina's victims to heal themselves. GO HOME and REBUILD your lives and homes and reclaim your city. There are so many people volunteering their services in Louisiana to help it's people renew. If you must file a suit, at least make it a ligitimate suit and don't ask for an amount that has folks thinking that you are all out to get money via a frivolous lawsuit. I know when I saw the amount I LMAO because I thought exactly the same thing and I totally understand where the other comments (the negative ones) are coming from. Sooooo, GET UP, GET OUT AND HELP YOURSELVES. Paleeeeez...PEACE!!!

What took place in New Orleans was inhumane. Our government let those people down and are still treating them as if they are animals and have no rights to live in their own neighborhoods. Of course the figure is symbolic. The country is in such bad shape due to this bogus war we are involved in. They couldnt find three quadrillion dollars if the fate of the country depended on it.

I truley believe that the people of new orleans should get all that they can.
1.GOD says to look after his people not drag them down "some one said they were looking for hand out"that's not what God would have said to any of you he would have said how can I help in anyway to retore my people life back in order. Some people may say that they were living poorley but who doesn't put GOD to shame and yet he helps us anyway.
