European Women Head to Africa for Sex

It appears that more and more women are turning to one of the most dubious practices around, long since discovered by wealthy white men... sex tourism.

Affluent European women in particular are increasingly living out their exotic fantasies of being with foreign men/boys much younger themselves who, almost as a criterion must be of a different race.

In Kenya, thousands of aging European women flock to the beaches often looking to elicit the tall, dark man that their cultures would never allow them to entertain.

Hard figures are difficult to come by, but local people on the coast estimate that as many as one in five single women visiting from rich countries are in search of sex, according to Reuters.

So why are these practices so prevalent...

There's no simple answer as many of these countries find it difficult to police, while others capitalize off it for the purpose of tourism dollars often indirectly promoting by doing little. These men and women use their elevated socio-economic status' in these poorer countries and entice their victims with gifts. Many, like this British man enact their most sadistic inner-fantasies when they feel they can get away with it.

So, this kind of sex tourism goes both ways. According to joint study by the Kenyan government and the U.N. children's charity UNICEF, about a third of all 12-18 year-old girls from the coastal districts are involved in some sort of casual sex for money exchange. That's 15,000 girls and that figure does not even include an additional 3,000 girls and boys who are engaged in full-time sex for money exchanges.

As shocking as those figures are for Kenya, they only represent a small portion of the much larger sex-tourism industry which has "hotspots" all over the world. Yes, "hotspots".

With this dirty and often loosely policed industry, one can only hope that this trend of more and more women joining in will discontinue. The last thing these people need is more people intent on abusing them for sex.

Wainaina is one of dozens of Kibera residents to receive the assistance of a cash grant. Hairdressers, grocery stores and food vendors are just some of the businesses that have been financed through the program.
