Hillary Rodham Clinton said this week that she and rival presidential candidate Barack Obama are where they are because of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
"We have to bring our party together and our country together," the New York senator added.
The former first lady spoke Monday at a New York ceremony honoring King's birthday, which was sponsored by the Service Employees International Union.
Her comments came as she and Obama have become embroiled in racially tinged disputes.
"Dr. King's dream began to be realized when President Lyndon Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It took a president to get it done, " Clinton said.
Some, including Sen. James Clyburn of South Carolina, took this as a dig at Dr. King's true affect on the civil rights movement.
Tell us what you think.

What experience does Hilary have, and can anyone tell me how black people have benefited from any politician. Barack Obama was a state senator for 7 years, a community leader, and has been in the Senate for 2 years and has everyone turning their heads in disbelief that an African American can stand up and talk real politics and speak well, the media has all of a sudden tried to paint Barack Obama as some inexperience candidate, when in fact if you look at Hilary and Barack's records and message you will see that they agree on the key issues and have the same plans for change. I dont care what anyone says, this election is about will there be a black man or a white woman as president, plain an simple and anyone saying anything else is lieing to themselves. And if you "loyal" Clinton people look at her record you will see that she and her husband have not done anything for blacks, like most politicians.

I remember very clearly when JFK was running against Nixon; the people who were against JFK were against him for among other reasons because he was Catholic and he was inexperienced!. Nixon was experienced; JFK was not! Now we revere JFK as having brought us Camelot and Nixon we know brought us Watergate and Iran-Contra! Obama speaks in a clear voice--a change is needed! Many people say he can't win; that might be true, but did Humphrey (a good man with experience), McGovern (experienced), Gore (experienced) Kerry (experienced)....win? Vote for change Vote Obama!

Please don't let them divide us by the remark from the Clintons. The former president and his wife-Hillary would for ever remain true friends of the black community. Mrs. Hillary Rodham Clinton's remark regarding Barak Obama's posturing towards Dr. Martin Luther King Jnr., especially with regard to his inspirational speeches, was what Mrs. Clinton was challenging. She has no ill-feelings towards the black community.
At the end of the day, the nomination would go to either Mrs. Clinton or to Obama. Then we should all close ranks and support the nominee at the November polls.

LET ME PREFACE THIS BY STATING THAT I WILL BE VOTING REPUBLICAN THIS YEAR AS I HAVE IN EVERY ELECTION SINCE 1972. I HAVE NO TIME FOR OBAMA OR CLINTON, BOTH ARE SILLY SOCIALISTS. WHAT UPSETS ME IS THAT THE BLACK CULT OF VICTIMOLOGY KEEPS AN ENTIRE RACE OF PEOPLE LOOKING BACKWARDS WHILE EVERYONE ELSE IS PASSING YOU. LOOK AT THE KOREANS,THE RUSSIANS, THE VIETNAMESE, THE LIBERIANS,AND OTHER AFRICANS. YOU GUYS ARE SUCKING DUST. POLITICS IS A DEAD END,YOU HAVE TO MAKE YOUR OWN WAY. IF I FOLLOWED YOUR COURSE I WOULD BE AT THE BRITISH EMBASSY PROTESTING THE IRISH GENOCIDE OF 160 YEARS AGO. PAST IS PAST, MAKE YOUR OWN LIFE.

Please... The discourse and courage to implement the civil rights movement created has NOT been duplicated since. Lyndon B Johnson was merely a reforming dixicrat attempting to quell an meet a storm of change Ms. Clintons statement is the equivalent of saying the Revolutionary War was won only by those who signed the Declaration of Independence...

What happens if Hillary wins the Nomination, gets in and forgets the African American Community? Then what? It will be too late for Obama then. A chance like this only comes around sometimes once. Think people.

Rickie & Donald are on the money. The assumption that all a candidate has to do is look like us to get our vote is to me the most insulting narrative coming out of the national media. We're in the 21st century; let's be more pragmatic & vote for the candidate that will truly fight for our interests and the future of our kids. Oprah, Eugene Robinson and the media types endorsing Obama, are in a bracket where they don't have to worry about making mortgage payments, paying college tuitions & student loans, money for retirement, affordable health care, job security or just maintaining economically. I personally need more than just a great speech about change or the pride of having a black man in the white house!

Enjoyed the provocative views. Now my spin. Obama is truly an AFRO-American. His dad is pure Kenyan. Which african tribe are you from? Obama is not looking like us, it's us looking like him. He has Keyan blood in him. His family is in Kenya. My great-great granddad was a water boy on a plantation in Virginia just before the freeing of the slaves. The little african blood I do have in me, honors Obama. Now Hillary. The biggest vendictive liar of politics.
Since it seem we can't remember what happened yesterday, let alone what happened in 1992. When bill was elected president in '92. Hillary took it upon herself to try and get a health bill, which was soundly defeated by the Republicans. Hillary has been carrying this grudge for almost sixteen years. She only wants to become president so she can pay the Republicans back. That's the vindictive Hillary. Now the lieing Hillary. When Bill's term was over in 2000. The first thing Hillary did was move her residency to New York.
Why? New York offered the best opportunity for her to become Senator. Citizens of NY was leary of her. They only elected, and re-elected her when she promised and told them that she was not interested in the presidency. She worked tirelessly for the NY voters.
Why? She had an alternitive motive. TO RUN FOR THE WHITE HOUSE. If the NY voters had known her lieing schemes, they would not have elected her in the first place. That vindictive lieing heifer will do anything to get elected. Obama '08. Peace
