It's heating up out there. So much for burying the race hatchet. Despite an attempt to put the race genie back in the bottle after a week-long tit for tat between Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. Hillary Clinton over comments she made regarding the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Clinton supporter, and Harlem Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel , who happens to be the highest ranking African American in Congress, has stepped all in the spat, even though Obama and Clinton seemed to pull back from their squabble.
On NY-1's 'Inside City Hall,' Rangel called Sen. Barack Obama "absolutely stupid" for going after Clinton for her seemingly insensitive remarks about Dr. King and Pres. Lyndon Johnson and the passage of the Civil Rights Act.
Rangel told NY-1 reporter Dominic Carter:
"How race got into this thing is because Obama said 'race.' But there is nothing that Hillary Clinton has said that baffles me. I would challenge anybody to belittle the contribution that Dr. King has made to the world, to our country, to civil rights, and the Voting Rights Act. But for him to suggest that Dr. King could have signed that act is absolutely stupid. It's absolutely dumb to infer that Dr. King, alone, passed the legislation and signed it into law."
For good measure, Rangel also mentioned Obama's youthful drug indiscretion.
I guess that is one way of doing damage control.

I generally don’t argue politics but here’s my take as a black woman from the prospective of life in general. No, I have no intention of telling anyone who to vote for, but I believe everyone should vote for who is best for society as a whole, YET in consideration of who is best for African-Americans.
I have noticed that many whites vote their own best interests. I have also noticed that whites are using psychology to get into the mindset of African-Americans because it is most affective, and here’s how it‘s played out:
1) White people will tell you, “Don’t play the race card. You shouldn’t vote for someone because they’re black.”
My answer: Why not use the race card? Blacks have been voting for whites every since African-Americans had the right to vote.
2) Whites will tell you, “Don’t play the gender card. Although Hillary is a woman, she is like you--the black women.”
My answer: Hillary has used the gender card exceptionally well. She has used women’s most powerful weapon to move women to vote. What does she do? She CRYS! Real crocodile tears. Then to ensure that black women will side with her, she appoints Maggie Williams to her campaign. That is an ingenious and very clever move. It’s a GENDER card.
3). Whites will tell you. “This is going to be a historical election; you have a woman running and a bi-racial man running for the presidency. Both are intelligent but Hillary has more experience as a two-term senator and Barack has none.
My answer: Yes this is going a historical election--I am aware of that. And because it will be historical I will vote to put the best person in office. Actually, anyone will be better than what we have now. As for having experience, being a two-term senator isn’t a prerequisite. There have been many US Presidents in the Commander and Chief seat and few held a senator or gubernatorial office.
Having said that above, I implore you to consider that white people in general will use blacks for their own agenda, and normally when something goes wrong they will stick a black face to confront it. For examples:
When the Catholic Church had their pedophile problem, who did they parade into the forefront to address the problem. Ah, the black Bishop Gregory.
And when Bill Clinton had his Monica troubles, who did they bring to forefront to pray for him. Ah, black Jesse Jackson.
When GW Bush wanted to spin the WMD and anthrax to the American people, who did they use? Ah, black Colin Powell and/or black Condolezza Rice.
When Hillary Clinton lost Iowa to Obama, who does she bring to forefront. Ah, the black Maggie Williams.
Even outside of politics it’s the same. When Bounty Hunter “Dog” got in trouble for using the N-word, who did he bring out to the forefront to help him: His pastor, the black Tim Story.
When there was a hostage crisis in Iran in the eighties, and even in Iraq, who goes in as a hostage negotiator and gets the job done? Black Rev. Jesse Jackson.
I can give you example after example how whites utilize the race AND gender card to their advantage and we African-Americans play along. We have been psychologically conditioned. ANYTHING NEGATIVE, PLACE A BLACK FACE ON IT.
Now what is happening . . . ? Use Barak Obama’s face on negativity.
However, you can flip that to mean if a black face is on it, perhaps it will be fixed. BLACKS ARE FIXING EVERYTHING ELSE! That seems to be the general consensus of whites--even though they can’t see it and won’t admit it. Perhaps black Obama is the best candidate for the presidency to fix the mess we’re in.
Just a thought (wink)

Amazing that out of all the comments I have read only one said they are voting based on agenda and what they can do for this country. All the others mentioned only that obama deserves the vote because he is black and no other candidates because they are white.
Rangel has done so much for his community and a life time of service to his people. For longer than obama has been alive, and now he is cast aside because he spoke his feelings on this matter. Because he feels that being just black does not warrant his backing.
Well he seems to be the few blacks on this blog that is truly free. The rest of you are no better than those rednecks down south!

Wake up Black America we are being used. The Clintons use us for whatever their current agenda is. How sad it is to see Hillary in our Black churches weaving her web and then to see our Black preachers (Calvin Butts Abyssinian Baptist in Harlem N.Y.) supporting her against a more than qualified Black man. There is no experience for president until you have been president. Do you think Hillary loves you, and has your best interest at heart? Stop thinking that we owe the Clinton's something, we owe them nothing, and then there is Charles Rangel, Bob Johnson,(of Bet fame), Magic Johnson, and all those black women who think they are sisters to Hillary, and to all the other traitors and preachers who have endorsed her, "COME ON IN OFF THE PLANTATION YALL THE MASTA DONE SET US FREE" And thanks Alfonsa Azulejos #6 Your final coment said exactly the way I feel. And thank you Obama for all your hard work you are a great man and the right man for the job.

Barack Obama, an equal opportunity candidate.
It's obvious that Obama is not white enough and certainly not black enough. He does however presents himself as an equal opportunity candidate.
There's a piece of him for the white color conscious voter and a piece of him for the black color conscious voter. It would be nice if race was not a factor but let's not kid ourselves; we are all not so blind.
For the first time, African-Americans are presented with a candidate who shares their heritage and has a legitimate chance to be nominated and eventually elected president of the United States.
Obama is not an ordinary candidate. He is specially gifted and standing head to head with Hillary, is far superior both in judgment, character and intellectual endowment. He also has sufficient relevant experience to make good decisions where others like Hillary failed. Moreover, he will do more for blacks than Hillary will ever do.
Blacks should not allow themselves to be held back by fear and self doubt and be misguided into voting for Hillary instead of Obama. If Iowa can do it, why can't they?
Blacks are intelligent enough to know that simply being black is no grounds to be supported. Heaven knows there are enough ineffective black individuals parading as leaders out there. Obama without a doubt is as qualified a candidate for the White house as there is on the campaign trail.
The tag teams of Bill and Hillary Clinton have mounted a serious negative campaign to diminish the stature of Obama. They have introduced the race and gender cards in an effort to bait and destroy him.
They have also turned loose all the big media dogs to intensify their attacks on Obama. In other words, the Clinton machine is in full war mode and will take no prisoners.
This is the moment for African-Americans to stand for something. This is the time to make their vote count. If they capitulate to the Clintons and allow themselves to be duped into selecting Hillary, then they will be for a long time relegated to the bottom. The Latinos are coming.
Blacks should not allow themselves to be pimped by the Clintons. They should free themselves from mental slavery and exercise wisdom by giving Obama victory. They should reject any so called leaders who may try to persuade them from doing the right thing.
Blacks should cease this moment and set a new course for their future. Let's face it; Obama is the closest blacks will ever come to having a black president. Bill Clinton is not black and never was. Remember also that Hillary is no Bill and therefore, doesn't deserve any blind allegiance.
Help defeat the Clinton machine, select Obama and set the stage for change. That's the challenge to blacks
