Oprah Winfrey continues on her bid to run the world, or at least own most of it, as the media mogul/business woman extraordinaire will now have her OWN network. The network which is set to launch by 2009, will be run by Oprah and follows her tradition of branding everything she touches as it will be called -- surprise, surprise -- The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).
As part of a joint venture between her company, Harpo Productions and Discovery Communications, OWN will replace the Discovery Health Channel in more than 68 million homes. Discovery will handle distribution and operational tasks for the new network, while both companies will work on advertising sales. The network seems to be an inevitable addition to her already expansive empire, which includes the top-rated TV talk show (The Oprah Winfrey Show), a magazine (O magazine), a satellite radio network (Oprah and Friends), a Web site (Oprah.com) and TV movies made under her banner.
The deal will in no way affect her currently running, award-winning show, as her contract does not expire until 2011.
The motivation for the deal probably had to do with her limited role in the Oxygen network, because although Oprah is an outstanding advocate and supporter of the Oxygen she wasn't able to augment its editorial content. This venture will give her that freedom:
"In addition to providing her talent, and personal commitment, Winfrey will have full editorial control over the joint venture and will be responsible for OWN's programming, branding and creative vision," stated a press release.
In essence, the already omnipresent host will now have the power to inundate her very own channel, with her very own programming 24 hours a day... for your viewing pleasure.
Despite having an rocky 07' seemingly nothing can stop Oprah... or her name.
Here's a list of some shows you might see on OWN in the future:
+'Cooking with Oprah'
+'How to Shop like Oprah'
+'Exercising the Oprah Way'
+The game show, 'Who Wants to Win Some of Oprah's Money'
+And my favorite: 'The Things That Oprah Likes Giveaway Show' (My ticket is already reserved)
Long Live the Oprah Empire!!!

I say "YOU GO GIRL" Check this out!!! Oprah was asked by her network and key people not to go out and support Barack because it could turn out to work against her. Oprah said I DON'T CARE I feel impaled inspired to get out and let people know why I'm so impressed with Barack Obama. I found a whole new level of respect for her. Now I see a strong Black Women using her money and influents in a GREAT WAY. UNLIKE THE BOB JOHNSONS OF THE WORLD. I'm very proud of Oprah.

Oh here we go again. The old race card...puleeeeze people, enough. Personally, I am, as well as many others tired of the Oprah thing. I can't pick up a newspaper, magazine, scandal sheet, watch tv without seeing the onimpotent OPRAH or her "friend" Gayle King. And now here she is, in all her glory, backing Barack Obama, a man who I would vote for without a doubt. But now that Oprah is involved, people will be voting with her popularity instead of using their brains. What will it be next Oprah for President, Gayle for Vice President? Get a grip people.

What person would not forge ahead when they are in the window of opportunity and preparedness? If you have not, wisdom is not yours. I am inspired, too, by Oprah's examples of good will and being a true American by all accounts. What I'm disappointed in is how AOL tends to choose titles and articles about this good American. For example, you once asked if Oprah is too powerful. I wondered who you were comparing her to...too powerful for whom or what? America? Please, let's not go backward, AOL. In effect, you have shed some light on your own corporate culture. If the Oprah brand should ever open its IPO, my guess is that it would skew the economy. Is that your fear? Well, right now might be a good time.

Oprah, May I be a guess on your show because all of your guess, get free advertising and a great boost. Look at Dr. Phil, and so many others. God Bless you and continue to recognize where your strength and power comes from. Bless the girls at your school.

OPRAH IS A RACIST. I USED TO LIKE HER UNTIL SHE MADE THE COMMENT THAT SHE WISHED HER GRANDMA COULD SEE WHITE PEOPLE WORKING FOR HER. WHY PLAY THE RACE CARD? I THOUGHT WITH ALL HER MONEY SHE WOULD HAVE SOME CLASS. ALSO, ENDORSING OBAMA OSAMA WAS THE WORST MOVE YET. SHE IS A RICH IDIOT.

Why does this article hint of racism. Evidence being the comments about her based on this article. Does Ted Turner own a radio station and tv network. No issue with that. Doesnt Rupert Murdock own a Network, Newspapers, and a host of radio stations. No one is talking him trying to take over the world. But Oprah doing it their is some kind of conspiracy. Isnt this America where we pride capatalistic values or is that only reserved for White Men.

I've always loved Oprah and respected her enormous success............However, I wish she would stay out of politics! Also, I will miss Misterious Diagnosis on the Discovery Health Channel.

Though I applaud Oprah for any of her endeavors and wish her well, I am saddened to learn that the Discovery Health channel will cease to be. It is MY favorite channel and provides much needed information in a variety of venues. I would certainly prefer that any other channel would be replaced except for Discovery Health. In any case, Oprah works hard and provides very valuable information in most instances to an otherwise uninformed public on her show. Not to mention that her VARIETY of subjects covers the gamut from health issues, cooking, movies and fashion to the latest news focus and is both entertaining and informative. Congratulations, Oprah!

I would not watch Oprah if she was the last show on TV!!! She is an arrogant know it all who usurps every expert she has on her show by asking them a question and then interrupting them to give her opinion!!! If she has so much money why doesn't she do somethignn to help people in THIS COUNTRY who are poor and hurting???
Also, why doesn't she admit to what she is if she is so liberal and all. Time to come out of the closet, Oprah!
