Back in the day, Sunnyland Slim warned "be careful how you vote." The song was released during Ronald Reagan's first term so black folks had good reason to be careful.
Recently, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in two voting rights cases challenging an
With so much at stake in the 2008 elections, African American bloggers have committed to doing their part to help remove barriers to full participation in the electoral process. The Afrosphere Action Coalition has launched a nonpartisan voter registration and voter education campaign, Proud Black Voter.
The campaign hopes to:
+ Inform the public about the importance of the need to vote
+ Facilitate people in getting registered
+ Encourage greater voter registration and election participation within the black community
Hicks added, "It is a way to use cyberspace to uplift people of African descent by pointing out ways for them to get registered and vote no matter where they live or who they want to support."
Your vote is your voice. To make your voice heard, you must be registered to vote.

Why don't people have an ID anyhow? That should almost be automatic to go get your photo ID. When my license was suspended I went and got an CA ID card so I still had a way to be identified. I admit I'm out in the woods on this issue, but not to have an ID would put individuals in the position to be disinfranchised by the voting system of America. There definitely is a need and reason then, to have a photo ID (i.e., driver's license, or state ID card) I encourage each person that doesn't have photo ID to get one whether or not this issue is used as a poll tax or not!!!

If one does not need a drivers license, a state ID which is much cheaper will suffice. Never let a few dollars bilk you out of the opportunity to vote. If you do not participate, someone will make choices for you ... and you probably won't like their choice!!! The right to vote was hard won. VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!

Well we just have to go out and get a photo ID and
move on, and if some people don't have the money to do so there should be a meeting among the community
to offer the few dollars it cost to do so, this is a

Yes, it is important to have valid I.D. to vote. Are you aware of the number of people who can have the same entire name?

I do not knock the ID requirement, by law you are to have a state issued ID when you turn 18 years of age. In addition, this aids in preventing illegal immigrants from voting...due to the fact that 9 times out of 10 they are not going to vote for a Black person (Barack Obama)He will definitely get my vote) regardless. So as a Black person "WE" should want to have our state issued ID's in order to vote as well as prevent any possible harassment from law officials if in a predicament that an ID is required.

Like Bill Cosby says, come on people. Get your ass in gear at some point in your life and quit letting other people decide for you. Why do we always have to be led by the hand to do anything necessary to better ourselves. That man, whose birthday we just celebrated (Martin Luther King) and many more like him died so that we could vote for the people that better suit our needs and get rid of these old fat neck white dudes who have had there thumbs on the back of our heads for far too long. Black Man, wake up. Grab your family and go to the voting booth. Fight any man or thing who gets in your way and quit whining about who did you wrong. Let's put that (crabs in a basket) mentality aside now and gang up on some of those people in office who mean us no-good.
The simple bastards who need to read this are probaly in the sex chat rooms

People talking this go vote but yet the system has many so loop holes your vote stand a pretty good chance of not counting. Bush stole the oval office in 2000 and no major over haul has taken place to ensure this will not happen in the future. Our elected goverement officals are bought and payed for and we the people do nothing to throw the useless bombs out when they'er not doing what we the people elect them to do. Most people that vote go home and complain the next 2 or 4 years at what these elected officals aren't doing. I also fail to understand a event that's so important why are we not getting the whole day off,not just a few hours. The rich people in this country have the system rigged to their advanage so the majority will come up short. I feel the right to vote should be extend to everyone that pays taxes in this country. Yes felons pay taxes to.
