"The fact is that the comments that have been made and the issues that have surfaced over the last few weeks reflect the complexities of race in this country that we've never really worked through - a part of our union that we have yet to perfect."
Sure, progress has been made but there are racial disparities in access to traditional home mortgages, health care and quality education. The black unemployment rate is twice that of whites and one in nine black men between the ages of 20 and 34 is behind bars.
In an eloquent and wide-ranging speech, Obama used this teachable moment to contextualize the anger and resentments on both sides of the racial divide. "But race is an issue that I believe this nation cannot afford to ignore right now. We would be making the same mistake that Reverend Wright made in his offending sermons about America - to simplify and stereotype and amplify the negative to the point that it distorts reality."
And because race matters, "if we walk away now, if we simply retreat into our respective corners, we will never be able to come together and solve challenges like health care, or education, or the need to find good jobs for every American."While Obama "condemned, in unequivocal terms, the statements of Reverend Wright," he refused to "disown" him. That refusal, coupled with the "constant loop" of Wright's sermons, will make it hard to "get beyond our racial divisions."
Only time will tell whether voters will embrace Obama's candidacy to send the message: "Not this time." A CBS poll found that among voters who heard about the controversy, 30 percent "said it made them have a less favorable view" of Obama.
Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton is riding high. The latest Quinnipiac poll shows "momentum in the Pennsylvania Democratic primary battle has shifted back" to Clinton, who now leads Obama 53 percent to 41 percent among likely primary voters. Whites back Clinton 61 percent to 33 percent, and blacks favor Obama 76 percent to 18 percent.

I am an American Indian and I feel this country is coming apart at the seams. Everyone and I mean everyone is so quick to blame others for thier problems. If every American Indian was to just sit around and always say poor me the White man stoled my land and my soul. We would never progress and we would only fail ourselves. The same should be said about the Black race. Stop blaming others for your problems. The White Man did not make you do anything right or wrong. It's your mind, body and spirit that controls your way of life. Yes, stand up for what is right, but please stop playing the race card and that goes for all people.

A BLACK MAN TO BE PRESIDENT OF THESE UNITED STATES. YOU MUST BE MAD IF YOU THINK THIS MONUMENTAL FEAT TO BE EASY. IT IS VERY COINCIDENTAL THAT GERALDINE FERARRO MADE A RACIST COMMENT AND THEY FOUND ONE FOR OBAMA JUST TO MAKE IT EVEN. BUT OBAMA HAS MORE TO EXPLAIN THAN HILLARY DOES. MY MOTHER ALWAYS TOLD ME THAT AS A BLACK MAN, YOU MUST BE TEN TIMES BETTER JUST TO PLAY ON THE SAME FIELD AS A WHITE MAN. THIS HOLDS TRUE IN THIS ELECTION YEAR. HILLARY KNOWS IT. AMERICA KNOWS IT. AND IF WE CONTINUE TO BICKER ABOUT WHAT THIS MAN SAID AND NOT WHAT THE CANDIDATE SAYS, WE WILL HAVE JOHN MCCAIN AS OUR NEW PRESIDENT. NOW THAT WILL MAKE YOU CRINGE. AND WE WILL BE BACK TO THE SAME OLD SHOW. OLD SOGGY WORN OUT RHETORIC INSTEAD OF GENUINE, NOBLE, INTELLIGENT AND UNIQUE LEADERSHIP.

OPEN LETTER TO FOX NEWS
HOW DARE YOU! How dare you FOX News get in the way of progress by spewing your divisive and hateful ways 24/7 and making sure that racism stays alive and well in this country. Here we have a very different type of candidate running for the presidency of the United States of America who is trying to rise above politics as usual. We believe him when he says he wants UNITY. He is someone who truly DOES have the best interest of this country and the world at heart. We, the people, will not allow you to drag our country down even further by trying to pass off your bull crap racist ways as “fair and balanced.” How dare you feed us your divisive garbage. I find FOX News and it’s commentators downright dumb and unprofessional. FOX News is insulting the intelligence of the American people. The majority of the Americans who DO want change have their eyes and ears connected to their brains, so your brainwashing techniques won’t work. We, the American people, will not allow FOX News to cheat us out of a better tomorrow for the United States of America and our respectability with the rest of the World. Now, if you liars don’t like the way we feel, you can just choke on it! And remember, what goes around comes around.

The damage has been done and I don't care how Obama tries to clean it up. I think that Obama has not been completely truthful in this matter and it was found that he was in the audience for some of the so-called controversial sermons preached by Rev. Wright which he had earlier stated he had never heard. I think that Obama wants to have it both ways and he's willing to do or say whatever it takes to get the nomination. I think that he is being unethical and to now try to distance himself from Rev. Wright does not speak well of him. The man that married him, that baptised his children, etc. He knew how Rev. Wright felt about different issues, he has been a member of his church for 20 years. Come on now!! The American public is not that stupid, I hope. As long as the sheep were following him mindlessly he was a very happy candidate, but now that he is being confronted with real issues, he's not looking so good.
He talks out of both sides of his mouth, one minute words do matter, the next minute they don't. I believe he will do and say whatever it takes to get the nomination, how is that any CHANGE from past politics. People better open their eyes and truly see what is going on! Obama is not ready to be the leader of the free world, not yet. I feel that he is caught up in wanting to go down in history as the first Black president, but wait he says he's neither Black nor White, but both!! Now he's all about white people!!! He's all over the place. I feel that voting for Obama would be disasterous for our nation and the world at this time and like my friends and I have said, if Obama gets the nomination, we will not be voting. Looks like the Republicans will be back in office again. This is where his arrogance and lack of humilty has gotten us because he can't beat McCain and if by some miracle he does, he's does not have the qualifications to be Commander-In-Chief!!!

Dear Miss Oprah and Sen. Obama,
Tell me what you are doing to save the rarest and most valuable Africans......
the highly endangered mountain gorilla?
No African has suffered more yet our African celebs ignore their plight.
I would like to see some genuine concern from you both with regard to your committment to this animal because in my judgement to date Africa has done exactly nothing to seriously save this animal for the world.

Senator Obama speech is a trueful statement for both sides of the black and white issues, but this to will be push back. This is a perfect time to explore the issues between all races on all matters that are heart felt resentments. This country is losing all respect and allies, at this rate we need each and every one to come together as americans. A town meeting each month just to discuss your issue with another race or your own race would allow some insight
on why there is prejudies, and fear of one another, and how we can come together and agree to disagree without it becoming racial.

Too many people are letting their emotions dictate who they believe would be a better president. The people need to learn to take the time to analize and scrutinize the canidates the same way the canidates analize and scrutinize every segment of this country for their own personal benefit. Democrat and Republican along with race, gender, and socioeconomic status are just another means to box people into a perdictable category that the canidates can count on to act, respond, and behave in the same predictable manner time and time again. It's really amazing how people are truly unaware how much power they truly have. So, totally unaware that they give away their own personal power over and over again. It puts the expression divide and conquer to shame, a damn shame.
