In our world of freaky governors and mayors, we've lost sight of the real reason most politicians get in trouble: graft.Fortunately, we've got former Mayor Sharpe James, who is accused of spending 20 years fleecing the city of Newark, washing the hands of his cronies and friends, strong-arming the political establishment and generally being a badboy black politician who got anyone over age 50 to vote for him because that's all he needed to win.
But not once was he ever accused of any crime involving the unzipping of his pants. Now that's what I call integrity.
He's gone on trial for what the feds call putting his hands in the cookie jar one too many times. But dammit, like a true Roman statesman, he gets his kicks above the waistline.
Brings a tear to my eye. Here's to ya Sharpe.

Wrong is wrong. Simple as that. Whenever any politician does these things, it is taking money out of your pocket!

I can't believe some of what I'm reading !!! This man was in office for 20 yrs. and what did he do for the community ??? All I see when I drive through Newark (and I definitely do it quickly so I don't get hit by a speeding bullet), are blighted neighborhoods, people standing on corners doing nothing, and despair !!! 20 yrs. in office and this is what there is to show for it ??? Along comes Cory Booker, who wants to do something positive and the people of Newark, who are so used to failure and corruption accuse him of not being "Black enough"... That's all they can come up with ??? I guess it's true that when all you're used to is failure and not seeing anyone do better, you settle !!! If not anything from this, they need to set some term limits.. 20 yrs. is way too long for a mayor to be in office and not have some kind of successes..whether they be economic, education or housing... Neither of which I see there !!!

They know how to steal for you alright. Raise taxes and the works yet look at your streets and how messed up they are. Then the city says there's no jobs. If they cut back all that spending and raises for themselves the tax money can repair the streets. Let me make some money.Click on the google ads that will not cost you but time. http://www.carlwhitmore.com/carlwhitmores

Newark was nice a very long time ago. I know that Newark, did not have much before Sharpe, but life was simple. I left Newark about 14 years ago, when I couldn't take it anymore when crime went up and more killings were coming and my children were not safe. I wanted more policing in our neighborhood (oops the police station was on the corner and turn they the other cheek), I am not going to take away any new developments that are now in town, the Movie Theatre, Home Depot, etc. Now my chilren are grown, safe and having their own children in a safe neighborhood, where neighbors look out for one other and are not scare to call the police. NEWARK CAN BE BETTER AND HOPEFULLY ONE DAY IT WILL IN MY LIFE TIME. THERE ARE STILL SOME GOOD PEOPLE IN NEWARK.

The honkies are coming out of the walls with their fists full. They've had their chance playing the political game and got caught skimming the books. Lets get some young white stuff to run this country! Fresh out of college with new ideas, because the old ones aren't working!

A modern day Robin Hood I suppose this guy is to be commended? I think not if he is guilty then he is just guilty. Regardless of the appearances of good or good intentions, the end does not justify the means! And the fact that his alledged crime is not of a sexual nature sin is still what it is, SIN!
