Tsk, tsk, tsk, America.
Did you know that 1 of every 100 of you is locked up? The stat is 1 in 15 if you're a black adult.
What the hell is wrong with you? Can't you keep your hands out of the cookie jar, your finger off the trigger, your fists off your woman, the dope out of your nose?
This Pew Center Report points out what this phenomenon really is and what it is costing you.
As far as I'm concerned, idiots will break laws for as long as we keep drafting them. But here are 10 ways we can reduce this 1-in-100 statistic, which, frankly, is the highest in the world and makes us look like freakin' international-grade criminal idiots.

The majority of people locked up are for none violent crimes like using drugs or maybe they forgot to pay a parking ticket. My solution will be to not lock people up for non violent crimes just put them in some kind of rehab or just make drugs legal but wait that wont work to many cops and judges would be out of work. And one more thing did you know that many prisons are privately held companies traded on the New York Stock exchange like Coke and Pepsi? I say that to say if crime went down shareholders in these companies would lose money so they send lobbyist to Washington to pay off lawmakers so they will not write laws that will slow down crime. All you have to do is follow the money.

i read someones comment whom mentioned share holders and and blacks are like the soda they trade.the truth is, its the same as 400hunet yrs ago wall street was the main hub for trading any and all slaves. therefore for the system works. hummmm! to make a long story short, the same people who started the these jails are the same families who taught us how to divide, subtract and submitt our natrual self and compassion for life. i maybe be wrong but only way to teach a dog new tricks is to dangle its wants in order to minipulateits its true nature. in other words, you keep a living being in a situation long enough it will soon lose its will to survive, think, and socialize. thus breeding self hate, confusion, as well as a desire that codependens on its capture and or gate keeper.in modern terms INSTATUTIONALIZATION.

This is not an embarrasment for America for for the black community...because it gives a clue about the irresponsible behavior of those who are being lock up....re-affirming that some people never learn.

Plain and simple. The solution is: If you can't do the time, then don't do the crime. Maybe staying in school and getting an education might help? Making babies in your teens shouldn't even be an option. It's a situation that puts you in the hole before life even begins. Finally,,,quit blaming others for your stupidity.

Until we get back to basics of placing a high priority on self-love, loving others, church, family to start, these numbers will remain the same if not higher. We can blame it on the lack of education, the minimal time parents (whether a one or two parent home) spend with families due to high economic set backs, etc. We can even blame it on peer pressure or racial disparities. However, until the laws and the court system provides a level playing field, we'll still see a constant flow of innocent black men and women, locked away for years and offered a minimal "Sorry, our bad" when DNA or the truth finally sets them free. The system took away the right for parents to be parents and then used the prison system when things went awry.
Whip those behinds (not beat them) but chastise them. Back in the day I had to get my own switch. Both the emotional aspect and the physical has kept me prison-free and respectful.
Just my two cents

Regretfully... Most are NOT in for non-violent crimes unless you count selling drugs to youuthful people as non-violent. They are there for repeated violent crimes. The numbers got higher as we as a society decided that three serious strikes is ENOUGH chances and now they stay for life, where before they got out every ten or less years to hurt other people over and over again.

Where did we drop the ball Black America ? The first thing ignorant A-S-SHOLES in white America will say is well the problems exist because Blacks are somehow inherently lazy and just will not work a job. Forget about the fact that Blacks built this country free of charge in the first place. Most Blacks know that laziness is far from the case and that the problem is much much deeper than that. Its just too many hardworking, educated brothers and sisters out there that I know of getting turned down for jobs based on the fact that they are Black. They would much rather hire a white high school dropout who will just get by then to hire a college educated black candidate who would do a much better job.I mean look at our President. A "c" student, got by on his daddies reputation, destroyed our county's reputation around the world is a moron etc...but till this day you couldn pay whites not to vote him out of office. Ask yourself why is that? There is no way that man should have even had a first term. McCain, same deal, graduated at the bottom of his class at the naval academy, only got admitted because his daddy and grandaddy were aviators then flew over Vietnam and immediately got shot down (like that took any skill)and white people want to say he is somehow heroic. Give me a break. All the real Black heroes that served in all the world wars we never hear about a single one of them. Why is that? Black America stop trying to mimic white America. We have to go back to our own ideals. #1 On the list don't do the crime in the first place. (The injustice system is unfairly tilted against you. they want to bring back a new form of slavery and this is it !)#2 Spank your children when they are doing something that is obviously worthy of one(only white kids can get away with being bad, they don't go to jail as adults because of our unfair injustice system)#3 Threaten your kids if they are doing something that almost warrants a spanking (spank or threaten your kids so that the white man doesnt get a chance to permanently enslave your kids in jail later on for petty crimes that whites just get a slap on the wrist for)#4 Create more black owned businesses and do business with other Black businesses (that wasnt on the list)#5 Safe sex dont impregnate a women if you cant take care and father a child plus AIDS is higher in the Black community and the government is not doing anything about this. I wonder why? Maybe because they created it as a biological weapon against Blacks. Its a well known fact that they injected poor unsuspecting Africans with the virus and called it a vaccine OOPS you weren't supposed to hear that #6 Invest in 401k

Paul,
Your commentary is the only one that makes any sense here. Parenting has changed and many parents are to blame but not the only blame. Blacks need to realize that Bill Clinton is the primary reason that we are losing two generations of Black people to the Prison Complex Industry. Because of Three Strikes and You Are Out and Crack vs. Cocaine laws that he created, he enthusiastically signed a "Crime Bill" that expanded federal prison construction, helping turn the "land of freedom" into the world's leading incarceration state. Poor, uneducated Blacks make up a wildly disporportionate number of the Clinton era's massive expanding army of prisoners and felony-marked "ex-offenders". We must also remember that it was Bill Clinton who abolished the welfare system (Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996) and used the money to pay off deficits and job training which caused millions to work for sub minimum wages in order to collect minimum benefits. In case you are unaware, this also forced many BLACKs who were in college to drop out to work for less than standard wages. Who are/were the welfare people targeted? The poor, homeless, street baggers, and single parents. Who owed deficit? Many corporations and the government. When U.S. gov't bailed out airline companies from bankruptcy, the gov't owed deficit. Isn't this the Robin Hood Syndrome? Steal from the poor to pay the rich. It is a day to mourn when Black people in America continue to be so unaware of politics that they will write articles like this. So Madison Gray, discontinue your sloppy journalism and do your research before misleading intelligent Blacks and those Whites who feel the same way that you feel. It is by design that education in America is dumbed down. It is by design the creation of the 21st century form of slavery. It is by design to populate the prisons with Blacks in case you are unaware and feel it can not or will not happen to you! The Clintonista Machine will continue if his wife becomes president. The beat will go on and on, and on until a more exponential number of Blacks are incarcerated. Consider this is nothing compared to their master plan. This is an unfair treatment on Black America. Shame on you!

I find the WORDS in this passage very offensive to BLACK people. If the stats is true YOU who wrote this don't have a right to talk to "BLACK AMERICA" in a condescening way.
