The Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice plans to conduct "an independent review of the facts and circumstances surrounding the Nov. 25, 2006, shooting." Still yesterday, the Black Leadership Forum held a news conference at the headquarters of the National Action Network. Rev. Al Sharpton asserted:
The decision in the Sean Bell case was not a miscarriage of justice, but rather an abortion of justice.
The acquittal of New York police officers in the unprovoked murder of unarmed Sean Bell is yet another example of a pattern and practice of excessive force used by police across the nation on black people.BLF Executive Director and CEO Gary Flowers added:
BLF member organizations expressed our support for the families, our outrage about the decision, and our commitment to investigate this case under the civil rights laws.
It mandates a response from the civil rights community and a renewed effort to work collectively, to publicly stand together, to demonstrate unity. It's not about one community and one organization, but the power of all of us standing together.
New York City is the scene of the crime. Sunday for black people is the day of resurrection and so we call for a resurrection of federal civil rights law enforcement for all U.S. citizens, particularly unarmed black men who are criminally brutalized by police.A joint letter will be sent to the Justice Department calling for a full investigation and requesting a meeting with Attorney General Michael Mukasey. The letter will not be the last word.
Today, Rep. John Conyers Jr., chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, and a congressional delegation will visit the Bell family to discuss a federal investigation of whether the police officers violated the civil rights of Sean Bell. They will also visit the spot where Bell was killed.
Sharpton said the "new level" of police misconduct means "we will respond with a new level." He did not offer any details on the community's response, saying:
We'll let you know what you need to know when you need to know.It ain't over.

I think that POLICE OFFIcers get away with lots of crimes.
The reason being is that there untochable.
Judges and cops are together.
In (Lynchburg,Va)in 2007 a man named Clearance Beard was killed by security guards and lunchburg city police.
This happened at 3am in the morning early Sunday.
On Monday they knew how he died,so you tell me.'
Shit where was AL Sharpton then.
Al Sharpton picks his battles that will put him in the lime light.
I'm sorry for the Bell family's lost, but the Police will nine out of ten get away with it.
It's many guys on death row and bad police officers
who have put many many guys in prison.
So understand people the POLICE is the biggest gang in the world.
So once again I like what AL is doing but,to me this truly benefits Al Sharpton not the Bell family.
Al name is who you hear about when it comes to the Bell case,so what about his fiance and his children.
His family for that matter.
GOD BLESS OUR BLACK MEN AND WOMAN.....
WHITES and every other Race ALSO.....

Jimmy Jam, If you are tired of being shot down in the streets you may want to talk to your fellow black men. Overwhelmingly the biggest killer of black people is not police officers but fellow black citizens.
However, that does not fit in to your victimized mindset that is destroying your community. If you, and the small minded people on this forum, had an ounce of common sense you would realize that the problems in your community are all self generated.
But if blaming others makes you slept better at night and causes you less work than so be it. But how long have you been blaming others while your community slowly digresses?
reading these bigoted forums is so predictable. I know what is going to be said before it is even written. Once and a while there will be a poster that gets it. Only to be derailed and called names. Sad community that is not going to improve until people start looking in the mirror.

The laws of the land have been trampeled - yet they
care not for it. All - are losing their rights daily
yet - take no thought concerning it.
Therefore, is it any wonder that a man can be shot
at 50 times, unarmed and no crime committed and the
officers are released?
Therefore, to whom and to what were they apologizing,
seeing as how they advise that all was done within
the boundaries of law?
For what indeed, was that apology?

WHEN I LISTEN TO THE NIGHT IN QUESTION IT SOUNDS LIKE THESE YOUNG MEN WERE OUT HAVING A NICE TIME WITH EACH OTHER AND DRANK ONE TO MANY . I AM SURE THE LAST THING THESE GUYS WANTED WAS PROBLEMS THE NIGHT BEFORE A WEDDING OR TO BE ARRESTED OR WORST THE GROOM GETS KILLED . I WOULD LIKE TO ASK A QUESTION ? WHY DOES COPS ONLY KILL BLACK MEN IN BLACK NEIGHBORHOODS AND YOU NEVER HEAR COPS KILL WHITE MEN IN WHITE NEIGHBORHOODS ,AND NO ONE SEEMS TO NOTICE THAT PROBLEM. WHEN I SAW MR BELL ON ONE OF THE NEWS REPORTS HE LOOKED NUMB SO NUMB I ACTUALLY COULD FEEL THAT MAN PAIN , AND HIS WIFE BEING ARRESTED NOT TO MENTION THE CHILDREN ALL DO TO FEAR THAT IS ALL IT IS FEAR . IF FEAR IS THE PROBLEM PUT OUR OWN STRONG BLACK MEN IN OUR AREAS TO CONTROL OUR NEIGHBORHOODS AND PUT THE WHITE COPS IN THIER OWN NEIGHBORHOODS. WORRY NO MORE MR AND MRS BELL OBAMA WILL BE IN OFFICE SOON ITS TIME FOR CHANGE. FROM A YOUNG BLACK MANS MAMA

Why arent the judges names ever plastered all over the articles?? We seem to always be attacking a nameless faceless bureaucratic enemy!
Why not embed the judges name in out minds so they know they won't remain anonymous next time they throw justoce to the wind.
