The meeting was held at the headquarters of Services Employees International Union Local 1199. Union President George Gresham expressed his outrage that the police officers were acquitted on all charges, saying:
How do you tell your son to be leery of the police but at the same time go to the police when you need help?
There will be several actions within the next 10 days. These policemen should know they have not, I repeat not, closed this case. The actions may include boycotts and civil disobedience. While a consensus is being developed on short-term and long term strategies, there's unanimity that the judge's verdict cannot stand. African American leaders will continue to pressure Congress and the Justice Department to bring federal charges.
One participant noted the candidate of "change," Barack Obama, would have the black community accept an unjust verdict:
We're a nation of laws, so we respect the verdict that came down. Resorting to violence to express displeasure over a verdict is something that is completely unacceptable and is counterproductive.Never mind that in the sixteen months since Bell was killed, all the protests have been peaceful. The response makes one wonder whether an Obama Justice Department would simply say, "Case closed."
A blogger recently wrote:
A dear friend of mine, who is a big Obama supporter, said to me, "Why not state the relations between the police and communities of color MUST change? I'm afraid that if he were President, it would be more of the same. He will be constantly trying to prove that can appeal to whites, without being too black. Obama should not take Black folks for granted.By contrast, Hillary Clinton has called for a federal investigation:
This tragedy has deeply saddened New Yorkers - and all Americans. My thoughts are with Nicole and her children and the rest of Sean's family during this difficult time. The court has given its verdict, and now we await the conclusion of a Department of Justice civil rights investigation. We must also embrace this opportunity to take steps - in our communities, in our law enforcement agencies, and in our government - to make sure this does not happen again. The struggle continues.

I know how bad the justice system is and it takes alot of people to back the wrong doing of this system to get exposed by our so called BLACK LEADERS and that is only when the media is there. What ashame. I have been suffering from this corrupt system since I returned to this country in 1983. The latest case that is still F________d up started in 2000 but you didn't want to hear from me then and now the prosecutor of that case filed a false court document and now a judge but, in the Lacrosse case that prosecutor was disbarred. I just guess that Ohio can't be touched with their racist judicial system that also have law enforcement personnel done KKK outfits. Dogs have better treatment than us and I have been through those time when they put the dogs on us. You nor your boys showed up then so that is why I know you will not show now. I was in La. during that time but now here in Ohio where rallies can go on and being protected hell it's against the law to kill a snake. Yes, you can go to jail for killing a snake! No jail time or justice for KILLING an UNARMED BLACK MAN. Then have the nerves to exploit the words of the REV. WRIGHT and try to turn his words on OBOMA? Listen Sharpton and Jackson are they wrong for what they say as well. The Jena case wasn't the first and nor was that in New York. I have served this country for many years and I will protect who ever in charge at what ever cost regardless if I like them or not. At the same time we as people must protect ourselves from the wrong doing of our messed up judicial system. Lives have to be lost for them to open their eyes to and marchs for justice when they know there's none. White you are right, brown can hang around but, black get back. I will post more on my on site for what I really have to say may not get published here. In a few days check out http://www.carlwhitmore.com
My heart goes out to the Bell family and all they are going through. We need to stick together and stop all this now. Get know your neighbor and stop all this I don't know you so why should I speak. That's your brother or your sister. Unite and stop the divide for look what is happening to us again. Educate without the hate, learn and never forget, knowledge is still the power, and documentation can bring about a great nation.

To "a", What are you talking about? You talk about saying nothing! I have no idea what your point is and to be honest, I feel slightly less intelligent just from reading it! Yes I know that one of the officers is black but what does that have to do with anything? All it takes is for one shooter to be white. I'm guessing that you are saying that Al and Jesse are not racial rapists. Do you have an instance in mind where they threw a huge hissy fit over a white person being mistreated? I'm not picking sides, I mean that's a whole lot of shooting even if they were "pumped" or scared but you and I don't know and no case needs Al and Jesse muddying the waters. Get the attorneys and the feds in there and make sure justice is done. I can't understand people who are so stupid that if something doesn't go their way, they destroy the area where they live, loot the stores they shop at and set fire to their neighbor's car. (Rodney King/LA) Can you explain that ingenius phenomenon?

Weren't 2 of the officers, including the one who fired the first shot black?
If Sharpton is really concerned about black people being shot why doesn't he campaign against the 'gangsta' lifestyle that glorifies drive by shootings? Will you see Sharpton patrolling housing project stairways, trying to protect black residents from predators? Not a chance.

Hi,
I think it is the time when they should struggle for justice. They all will have to unite themselves for this cause.

Well, I think we should take heed of what Nicole is doing by being silent. There should be a silent protest on a specific day and time where everyone who is aware of the should stop what they are doing and stand up and be silent for 5-10 minutes. I believe that it would make a great impact of seeing the solidarity with the silence.
