In his speech on race, Barack Obama said "Trinity embodies the black community in its entirety." But that was so 75 days ago. As of last Friday, Obama is out of there.
I sort of, kind of, understand why he did it. But I'm also sort of, kind of, concerned about what this might portend for an Obama presidency.I have written quite a bit about Obama. Black Voices commenters invariably accuse me of being a Hillary Clinton supporter. For the record, I am a registered independent. I have not been involved in partisan politics since 2000. My role as a citizen journalist is to share information, news and analysis. It is not to be a cheerleader for any candidate.
Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Trinity are community building blocks that the right wing has turned into bricks to be thrown at presidential candidate Obama from now until the general election ends in November-and perhaps beyond.
So in an attempt to turn manufactured right-wing ammo into blanks, Obama has completely separated himself from his minister and his church.
If holding Obama to the same standard of accountability as other politicians makes me a "hater," so be it. As a lifelong activist, I have been a vocal advocate of African Americans getting more for their political investment than black faces in high places.
In his post, Monroe observed:
I also know that perception can become reality in our media-defined world. But reality is not always perception. And, the reality is that Obama cannot let the right-wing dictate his principles. In his improbable quest for the Democratic presidential nomination, Obama has thrown his white grandmother, Rev. Jeremiah Wright and the 8,000 members of Trinity under the bus. One does not have to be a hater to wonder: Who's next?
Should this become his practice as president, then for those who have invested so much hope in him, his victory will only be a Pyrrhic one.

I cut off my support for Sen. Obama when he without provocation disrespected Dr. Wright after Dr. Wright's brillant lectures at the National Press Club and the NAACP function. I could not in good conscience support a person who would disrespect the great man Dr. Wright. Furthermore, Sen. Obama showed himself to me to be a disgusting elitest who assumes that I can not think for myself and distingusish between him and Dr. Wright. Sen. Obama succumbed to the racist and neo-fascist conservative rightwingers who attacked Dr. Wright. The absurdity of Sen. Obama's backstabbing of Dr. Wright is that the people he was trying to impress will not vote for him anyway. Now, Sen. Obama has reacted to the great sermon of Father Fpledger at Trinity Church who accurately and courageously depicted the lack of class in Sen. Clinton by moving his membership. To the members of Trinity Church I tell them to tell Sen. Obama to not let the door hit him. What Sen. Obama has done is more evidence of his lack of character. A great man like Dr. Wright comes along once in a life time. Two bit opportunistic politicians are a dime a dozen. There are lots of truly outstanding black Americans worthy to be President of the United States. Sen. Obama has now convinced me that I was correct to end my support for him after his blatant disrespect of Dr. Wright.

I agree with much of what th writer said. I think it is unfortunate actually that "African American" voters have voted as a block for Obama Without regard to the impact of his proposed polices on themselves. For example, Obama said we need to raise taxes on those making over 75 thousand becasue they are wealthy. Well try living in New York, Washington DC., San Fransisco or Los Angelos on 75,000 and a family. Trust me you are not by any stretch wealthy. Secondly, Obama whike he will be cutting income tax on these same individuals, He proposed raising Social Security taxes to balance the Social Security Sytems. So trust me there will be zero tax breaks. Secondly, a US Senator elected in 2004 and running for President for three of thoses years, has learned virtually nothing about the workings of congress. I wouldn't hire a carpenter with three years of expereince. Sadly enough, Obama does nto stand a chance in the general elction.

People, politics is a game. Obama needs to do what he needs to do to get into the white house. He cannot represent us, if he doesn't win. In other words he's worth more to us in the white house than at Trinity Church.
White people have been playing this game since the beginning of time. Thankfully a black man has learnt the rules of the game, now he can play to win. It's not PERSONAL people, it's a strategy. Let's get on with it.
Obama can diss me all he wants, if that what he needs to do for us to see a Black Man in the white house. Let's focus on the big picture.
Let's stay united people, that when we are strong, and that's when we can get things done.

And to be perfectly honest, even if Barack Obama plans to sell out after he get's to the white house, (which I don't believe at all) that's perfectly fine by me. I' rather be screwed by a black man than a white man,(literally & figuritatively, ROTF).
Talk about being screwed by a white man and playing the game to win, just look at the Clintons! Now who would have thought that these so called "pro black politicians", would be calling for an assasination, when we finally have a Black presidential candidate? You know those two believes are mutually exclusive. The Clintons DEFINITIELY played us like a violin all these years. It's just the name of the game,& goddamit did they play it well? Had me fooled, BIG TIME!

Growing up in black society there was nothing more reprehensible than disrespecting an elder. The shameful attack Sen. Obama launched against Dr. Wright after Dr. Wright had been applauded by thousands both black and white at the NAACP function and the National Press Club I found shocking to the conscience. Not only did Sen. Obama disrespect the great man Dr. Wright I took it as a personal offense. Sen. Obama relegated me to an invisible man and essentially said I cannot think for myself. I was so irate I put on hold my financial and political support for the Obama Campaign. I consider dignity more valuable than any political office. Besides if Sen. Obama could disrespect a great man like Dr. Wright than he certainly has a flaw in character. If he could stoop to such low level I do not have confidence he would serve as a worthwhile President of the United States. What since is there in having a Clarence Thomas president? Now, Sen. Obama has reacted to the meaningful sermon of Father Michael Pfleger at Trinity Church by removing his membership. I put Father Pfleger in the class of great white Americans along with Rev. John Brown, William Lloyd Garrison, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and President Abraham Lincoln. Unfortunately, Sen. Obama is degenerating into a class along with Clarence Thomas and othe disgusting Uncle Toms.

I don't know what the future holds for Senator Obama, but I do respect his gentle spirit and the respect that he has demonstrated toward all of the other candidates. It appears that we expect him to bear the brunt of every negative hurled. I can only imagine that this bias is because he is an outstanding candidate that wants to bring America together as "One America". God Bless America.

All Sen. Barack did was show his Buck-dance-ability. Any (so-called) man who lets another come between him and his God, is not suitable to be my President. This is how Blacks keep getting in the same old, same old situations--we keep following behind a person because of their skin Color. Then too, the wickedness of a forced "integration" is as much to blame. Since corporate media has a post "Blaxploitation" rule which forbids us o have any A-A heroes, we jump at an immediate instance to follow, one. By jumping to every tune and beat that play, Sen. Obama is making himself a "boy;" not a presidential candidate. They're merely programming him for his job as...Commander-in-nema?

He joined Trinity for political reasons, and he quit for the same reason. I would not stay in a church that continues to point out our differences, especially if I was running for public office. There comes a time when we as blacks have to realize that just because it comes wrapped in a chocolate package doesn't make it good for us. Realize if you are a middle class black barely making it, if O'bama becomes president, you will be pushed back down to lower class, just because of taxes.
My family is in a good postion right now. If we lose 5% of our income to taxes, that's all it would take to ruin us. Think about that when you want to vote black.
