Missing the 80's? Well, you're in luck because if your price is right, you can own a piece cultural history and donate to charity at the same time. This week Bill Cosby is auctioning off three of the distinctive sweaters Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable wore on The Cosby Show.
Cosby is selling these instantly recognizable...um...gems to raise money for the Hello Friend/Ennis William Cosby Foundation, bids start at $5,000.
Sure it seems like a lot now (especially since there's been zero bids in the first 24 hours on eBay), but back in the day, everybody who wanted to be anybody had to have at least one Coogi.
You know who you are ...
Cosby Sweaters
This sweater was worn on The Cosby Show by Bill Cosby between seasons 3-8. It will come with a dated and hand signed letter from Mr. Cosby authenticating this. It will also come with a separate letter from the sweater designer, Koos Van Den Akker, indicating that he made this sweater for Bill Cosby for The Cosby Show.

On Thursday nights between 1984 and 1992, millions of Americans in record-setting numbers spent the evening with the Huxtables. Via The Cosby Show, Bill Cosby brought us a message of hope and love that continues to connect with new generations of viewers worldwide. One of the most emblematic and iconic elements of the show was not something that was said or done. It was worn.

All proceeds from the sale of this legendary Heathcliff Huxtable sweater will benefit the Hello Friend/Ennis William Cosby Foundation. The non-profit educational organization was established in 1997 by the Cosby family to continue the legacy and life's work of Ennis Cosby, who about to begin his doctoral studies in education at the time of his death.

If Daddy, Uncle J. or Cousin Steve are of a certain age, they all wanted the same thing for Christmas: a Coogi.
And when Biggie started rocking Coogi? Even the sweaty heat of
On weekends, the fair haired executives of Madison and Park Avenues rocked the khakis and the Gucci's with the Coogi. It was a bonafide phenomenon.
So, I for one am thankful that styles change. But at least the folks at the website 'Rock Dat Coogi' are keeping the love alive.

I would like to own one of Bill Cosby's legendary sweaters; but that is as far as I can go-just wanting to own one.

This seems to be a pathetic, desperate attempt by Cosby to keep his name in the public eye. Those sweaters were horrible, when his show was on televsion, and they are even worse now. I saw him on the Jay Leno show, and he appears to be suffereing from dementia. He had enormous talent, but he was alwasy a mean, selfish indiviual, and it is time that someone said so. That would be me.

First of all, somebody give Jack a hug. He must know Mr. Cosby quite well to be spittin' this venom. Otherwise, give the man a break. Cosby continues to reach back and help many people with his style and wisdom. He does not need to seek the limelight. That is ridiculous. He can have almost any platform he wanted if that was his desire. The sweaters were a part of 80s pop culture and if someone has the loot to buy one in support, that's their business. I hope this foundation does some good in his late son's name.
Peace.

what a mess! designer, Koos Van Den Akker? we just can't stop making these people rich buying and aggrandizing their junk. Oh Bill, what ever happened to "buy black?" if we weren't watching black back in the day, your show would not have been what it was. why do people do less for others than they expect for themselves?

Those Coogi sweaters machine made and the handmade sweaters of Bill Cosby are works of art. I did not make those but I worked for Koos van den Akker in the late 80’s and I can tell you that it takes a genius in my case to make a sweater from scratch and have the first 5 sold for $ 600 a piece within five minutes of having them in the boutique on Madison Ave.
More power to Bill I wish him the best with this auction!

I would definitely get one of these if I could. I loved/love the Cosby Show. Always have and always will. It’s my favorite show!!!! Bill Cosby transformed the image of black Americans on TV and boldly took a stand in a white dominated industry. Only ignorant and close minded people fail to see the importance and necessity of the show. Perhaps all black families weren't and aren't like the Cosby's but some are. But not all white families aren't like the Connors from Rosanne or "Friends." The truth is we needed a balance in Hollywood and Bill Cosby gave us that. As African Americans, we should be grateful to Mr. Cosby for doing this! Kudos Bill Cosby and much success with the organization named in honor of your son.

Does anyone know what the SP stood for on the pins that Bill frequently wore on the show?
