Over the last few months, black America has seen some of its most privately held conspiracies being blown up by the media. The controversy has ranged from Senator Obama's pastor, Rev. Wright's incendiary sermon to Alicia Keys' rant about the government and 'gangsta' rap. So with the dubious Friday the 13th approaching, the question has to be asked, why is the black community so rife with its own set of myths, conspiracy theories and well, let's just call 'em "Urban" urban legends?
Sure some of it is driven by word of mouth, some by the media and others given life by internet chain letters, but nevertheless, this infamous list has more traction than you may believe...
In honor of all the paranoia associated with the 13th, we just had to pull together the biggest collection of far-fetched or otherwise conspiracies in the African-American community and called it a day at 13 (not a coincidence). And don't lie! We know you were in on more than a few of these ... "Well I heard ..."

It is sad to say that these myths stems from some truth. Of course, blacks are affected many ways by the way society perceives him or her; my question to all of my sistrans and brothans is when are we going to stop using the myths as an excus to stop striving for more.

Nawww Son! I'm sorry but I think it's a conspiracy that some of these "myths" are on this list, maybe I'm just one of those sistah's that it's hard to convince because some of these I KNOW are true. Now some of them are far-fetched and I do believe I've heard them. But some are true especially the one about AIDS- C'mon I'm not believing this propoganda even if Blackvoices tells me to...any data can be manipulated or files deleted, just look at how far they took the "proof" for WMD's. The gov't has the technology to do anything and as the past has taught us the cruelty as well. This just confirms to me how deep and high up the conspiracies go!

Hence the Rev.Wright sermons, His flaw/mistake was to try and validate foreign & domestic myths without the scenerio DNA or forensics.. One myth was the New Orleans flood damage was cause by exploded levies, Again no evidence or proof,.. Case close... The Crack War, How did the lowly street dealer in every urban community get the product from the southern borders?.. The American Gangster and Scarface movies shedded some light, But they plug one whole another opens, And who had/has the ability to penetrate & satuate the whole country nationally?.. The 9/11 WTC, etc... Until we're able tell who ,what, when and where, All these events will continue to be myths... We've had the Bush administration taken photo ops with the Saudi's and haven't found the WMD'S yet...(myth)

People can say whatever they want...most of this stuff is true....30 years ago folks were probably saying the same thing abot the Tuskegee Experiment... The reason why most of this stuff is listed as a "myth" is b/c there is no so called "proof"...what goverment in their right mind would ever come out and validate this publically?? Read in between the lines!!!!

Well I'm not a big fan of "conspiracy theories" BUT there is some sort of truth here. There is some truth to how LARGE (notice I said LARGE)quantities of cocaine into Southern California. Google Gary Webb (RIP by TWO so-called self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the HEAD) And as far as 9/11 this would not be the first time (if it is true)that the government has plotted to kill it's own citizens.http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/northwoods.html

#6,Have YOU (yourself)actually HEARD these things said with your own ears? Plus, nowadays with the internet it's so easy to find any info you want on any subject. That goes back to when people said that the Klan owned TROOP. And the Klan sold those ugly crowns that people used to put in the rear windows of their cars. Come on man! People will believe the most absurd things they don't see and hear themselves. But laugh at you when you say you believe in God. Someone you can't see or hear (audibly).

I don't know about some of the other myths, but I don't think that they provided enough information to back up the more black men in jail than in college myth. The author gave statistics on the increasing number of black men in jail over the years, but failed to get stats on the number of black men in college. It was pointless to mention the number of whites and hispanics in prison because: A) The statistics for both of those groups are signigicantly lower than with Blacks, and B) There is no mention of statistics regarding college. The irony of this is that the author ends the piece by advising others to get the proper statistics. I believe that not only should someone get the right statistics, but there should be more statistics, and the statistics should support an argument properly.
