Barack Obama is garnering praise for upbraiding black fathers. With his Father's Day speech, Obama is being hailed "as a centrist voice of moral authority, a position that resonates, not just in the African-American community, but among voters at large."
Fact is, Obama follows a long line of African Americans who have spoken honestly about black father absence. Black organizations, including the National Urban League, have called attention to black fatherlessness; in 1999 Morehouse College convened a Conference on African American Fathers. ...
In 2003, Rep. Danny K. Davis launched a year-long dialogue on the "State of the African American Male." I attended the kickoff event in DC, where hundreds of black elected officials, community leaders, academics, activists and concerned citizens came together to strategize and propose solutions to, among other things, the decline in the marriage rate and father absence.
And lest we forget, more than a million black men stood on the National Mall and pledged to improve themselves "spiritually, morally, mentally, socially, politically and economically" for the benefit of themselves and their family.
So the black community has not been M.I.A. or AWOL in addressing this critical issue.
Truth be told, the congregants of Apostolic Church of God were not the intended audience. Obama used their pulpit to reach out to white voters:
White America can't resist liking him for his words. For them, such a message was deeply satisfying to hear. It took them off the hot spot, even if only for a minute. It was an echo of all they hope is true -- that any man, no matter the odds against him, can pull his socks up and get with the program. It was a respite from helplessness. At yesterday's forum at the Paley Center for Media, I asked Dr. Ronald Walters, a senior staffer with Rev. Jesse Jackson's 1984 and 1988 presidential campaigns, whether it was fair to characterize Obama's speech as a Sister Souljah moment. His response in a word, yes.
Dr. Walters told me Obama "uses the black community every now and then as a way to deal with another constituency." He added:
I'm sick and tired of Obama using the black community as a way of deflecting his real interest in conservative evangelicals by focusing on moral responsibility instead of dealing with corrective public policy.Good question.
If he's going to be that specific about one side of the equation, where is the specificity about the other side of the equation, the public policy side? Where is the black agenda?

Do what you should be doing.
To the fathers who are taking care of their business, you go boy. We need YOU!

Obama needs to know that "boy" is a white racist word and therefore I will take all my Obama signs off of my window in my white neighborhood. All the old white poeple that I have been talking to about voting for Obama will stop and all the hispanics that i have outlined why Obama is better for them-I will no longer do. Never trust a skinny mullatoe, who went to school in Asia and uses his dumb wife and church for his own political gains. Barack is a set up. What does he do but smile and grin his way through everything? It took the white governor of Illinois to DNA test black males on death row and get them freed. When this whiite man was forced to resign Barack Obama was too scared to even stand up for this man. So, Barack has no track record of anything except pandering. He is an illusion.

Bitter black women really need to shut the hell up. What do they do but get their hair and nails done, wear blond weaves, sell their bodies and cant even find out who their baby daddy is. It is ok to trash black men to get ahead but black women dont want to hear about themselves.

Michelle Obama looks like her bottom lip has an African plate in it. She was on The View and she needs a personality transplant. How is using this type of langauge by Barrack anything but old, American politics of scapegoating black men to gain white favor?

I think FAYE ANDERSON is using blacks to bring down Obama! Why are all of your Obama articles filled with hate toward every move Obama makes? Either you are a self hating black woman or a racist republican white woman trying to infiltrate Obama's support in black America with unfounded truths. Unless you can prove your statements to be fact, I suggest you keep your reports on this campaign neutral, as most credible journalists, and allow your audience to draw their own conclusions. I am more suspect of your motives than of anything Obama or McCain can ever cook up as politicians. I swear come November, there'll be moaning and nashing of the teeth coming from your personal hell as Obama takes the stage as a leader of the free world and historical figure beyond measure.
"You might win some but you just lost one!" I find your articles to be sensationalized drivel and I will no longer give it a gasp of my breath as I read the works of non-objective professional journalists and political professionals, not some fool that sticks their narrowminded opinions in the middle of a blog site! LOL!
FYI: Ones add up!

Why must a politician put down black men to gain white favor? The Urban League needs to not say anything about black issues. A female friend of mine, relocated from NY to L.A. and she almost got raped by an executive at the Urban League. Barack Obama is calculating. He using talking points straight off of Fox News. Like JoJo said, there were black men on death row in his state and Obama just let these innocent men rot until a white politician got involved. Obama didnt mention that fact in his speech. He didnt call these men's children and apologize for being passive on the racism of the US criminal justice system. Dam! I should have supported the white woman, Hillary Clinton. Obama will bring a new age for whites in America but for blacks it is the same ole same ole.

Poster's Jo Jo and Kyle C you guys are so STUPID it isn't even funny. Kyle C. all you could come up with is a personal attack on Michelle Obama, she has full lips like most black women and the Sista is FIERCE. She's educated (Harvard Baby!), she clearly loves her Man and if you ever get the opportunity to meet her you'll see that she has the sweetest disposition. Jo Jo just because a Black Woman EXPECTS the father of her children to support them does not make her bitter. I do my own nails, wear natural locks, don't need to sell my body (I work) and I know who my kids are for (2 kids, 1 Daddy), I don't bash him because I don't have to because this Brother takes care of his responsibilities. So take down your Obama posters and quietly campaign for McCain because that's what you'll be doing. I believe you both are white men trying to start confusion.

I think most Black people who are hating on Obama are afraid that he's raising the bar. No longer will we be able to say "the white man" is holding us back. Black people are notoriously envious of any Black person that is doing better than they are. Black people we need to wake up and realize whites no longer have to hate us because we hate on one another enough for them. My People My People when will we learn!!!

OK-Samatha. Please explain why Obama and all those Negors in that church never said one thing about the DNA evidence that freed half the black men in their jails? Why is Obama so scared to address that the Prison Justice system plays a role? I tell you why, he is scared of whites. I would have no issue if he didn't just spew propaganda in that church but at the endof the day, Obama is a politician who took the "tried and tested" low road of kissing white butt by speaking in a chruch that was set up l;ike a Fox soundstage. Obama is a politician and I know he is from Hawaii and Indonesia , didnt know a black person until he was like 25 and sits in Washington DC emailing white actress all day long but if you can't say the while truth then do not feed us that backwards "blacks make excuses" b.s.
