Now, I don't mind jokes about black folks, after all, if anybody has taken living in America with a sense of humor, damn it, it's been us. But if they (Comedy Central) are going to do it, this sh** better be funny, I'm talking Chappelle Show funny, or better. So in case Comedy Central's writers have trouble coming up with material that will be equal-opportunity funny, but at the same time won't bring the Rev. Al Sharpton to the station's headquarters, here's some suggestions of things about black people to make fun of:
1. Rev. Jesse Jackson: As much of a staunch defender of black folk Jackson has been over the years of his career, and as much as we respect him, this cat just keeps giving us new material. Of late, it's his desire to neuter Sen. Barack Obama. If Hillary Clinton had been the presumptive nominee, would he want to spay her?
2. Churches: It's been since Richard Pryor that we've had good comedy about the black church. And why shouldn't the good Remmund and Sistah Cleopheen be fair game for talented comedy writers? Besides, I haven't yet met a single church person who knew exactly how to get me to heaven. But I for damned sure know quite a few who know the shortcut to hell.
3. Athletes: There are only a few who haven't been funny over the years. In fact, we should stick with the formula: Athlete comes from humble beginnings; gets drafted and make a gazillion dollars; becomes king of sports with amazing feats; becomes self-entitled and stupid with fame; is responsible for dumbfounding fuckup; winds up in court; gives life to the Lord. Even somebody as morbid as Toni Morrison could write funny shit about that.
4. Prison: For obvious reasons.
5. Arrogant white guys: Not that whites haven't been targets enough for black comedians for years and years, but if Comedy Central is going to have a show where black people are the subject of continuous ridicule, then the black people on it need to target every Michael Savage, Bill O'Reilly, Tucker Carlson and Lou Dobbs they can get their hands on. Maybe they should even make cracks about snipping their nuts off.
What kind of black humor do you find laugh-your-a$$-off funny?

What kind of black humor do you find laugh-your-a$$-off funny? None... Everybody not the same.
It just depends on the story and the tag line. People are people and if the situation or the incident is funny, it's just funny! It also depends on who's telling the story. Everybody don't make me laugh.

If the show is limited to making fun of only "Black" people then the show is doomed to fail because it's doing the job of the Klan bringing down the Black man. If the show is about "Blacks being funny" looking at the news, then that's a damn classic waiting to happen. Can you picture a "Black Paris Hilton?" What do Black men think about Britney Spears? Why is Pimping Not Easy? Who loves chicken more Blacks or Koreans? Watermelon has viagra in it? The Black man's secret is out. I'm available.

Comedy central? You gotta be kidding. We will see how long this show will last. Lets face it, they will never have a show as popular as Dave Chappells. Not as far as black people are concerned. David Alan Grier? Lawda mercy. What da bumbaclaat???? :)

HOW ABOUT THIS...IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE A BLACK COMEDY SHOW WITHOUT THE CURSING? CAN WE REALLY EXPAND OUR VOCABULARY WITHOUT USING PROFANITY? CHILDREN, UNFORTUNATELY, WILL BE LOOKING AT THE SHOWS, AS WELL. SINBAD IS AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF HOW ONE CAN DELIVER THE LAUGHS WITHOUT DEGRADING HIMSELF AND HIS RACE, BY CURSING.

The minute I read that you thought the Chappelle Show was funny, I knew this article was questionable.
Chappelle is an untalented idiot and his show was a POS.
And as far as the list of 5 possible topics for humor? I think not. How about:
1 - brothers with 10 kids by 10 mothers (add rappers and you can add 10 countries. I know of 2 right now!
2 - brothers who only want a white woman but talk smack to a sister who dates out of her race.
3 - how come we can't find a job but Jose has 4?
4 - livin' on the DL - I swear to G-d if I have one more black male friend "confide" in me of their alternative lifestyle (please don't tell) after I already caught him IN the closet I will lose it!
5 - black folks at the beach (gettin' hair wet, learnin' that we do burn and get crispy, sand is nasty, why do white folks bitch about our color then spend weeks pre-tanning at a salon to get a good base on before they go to the beach. I've seen some darker than me in an arm to arm test!
Let's leave Jackson alone - he's old and crotchity. Sharpton chooses his battles a bit more after the Tawana Brawly debacle. Leave the church alone. We all know church is for the sinners - pray on Sunday to make up for the crap you pull the other 6 days of the week. Prison ... I'll ask my cousin, he's got some funny stories. And atheletes, well I guess there can be some material there ...
Hey, I'm sayin' ...

We as a black people aren't as funny as we used to be. We're more educated and serious about ourselves in these times. If you take a good look, Senator B. Obama is running for president of the United States, making a good run at it too.

This always seems to be a touchy situation. The joke wasn't funny in my opinion, buy you know what they say about opinions. I agree, if the New Yorker thought it was so funny, then they must have received a BIG KICK out of McCain acknowledging Martin Luther King's Birthday A DAY LATE & A DOLLAR SHORT! Very touchy issue...
