Did you know that Tasers have been involved in more than three hundred deaths?
Dozens of others have suffered Taser-related injuries. I respect that sometimes force is needed to subdue a non-compliant suspect. And I'm not suggesting that police shouldn't defend themselves against violent attacks.
However, because Tasers are classified as "non-lethal" they are not routinely used to protect cops from deadly force – guns do that.
You shouldn't have to die because you're being unruly. We are a better country than that...
Human rights organizations such as Amnesty International have long argued that most of the deaths associated with Tasers are related to multiple uses or prolonged usage of the weapon on the same person. Since 2001, there have been over 300 deaths that Amnesty has studied where Tasers were involved - a significant number involved either multiple uses or prolonged usage of the Taser. In over 20 of those cases, coroners have listed Tasers as the contributing factor. In only 10 percent of the cases was the Tasered individual actually carrying a weapon.
We are not against Taser use as an alternative to deadly force. We are however against Taser abuse by rogue cops who consider the Taser an apartheid electrocution whip of the 21st century

It stuns me that anyone would think that the police are justified in killing this young man. He did not have a weapon. Police said Turner had been threatening the officer after having disagreement with his employer. It just seems that the penalty for disagreeing with your Food Lion boss should not be execution

i've been in law enforcement going on 20 years and i've yet to run into someone(an officer) who came to work looking to take someone's life before their shift is over. so keep listening to all the lawyers and orginizations who make their living off keeping up a bunch of confusion after the fact and we'll all come to a better understanding one day.

i wonder what our black community would look like if we had no police or couldn't dial 911. anybody remember the wild wild west...bottom line black folks ar way out of control and we stand around and act as if we got reason to have all this mayhem.

This writer seems irrational to me. Nobody deliberately tried to kill that young man. He wasn't executed. That's the kind of inflammatory race-baiting that nobody needs - except for people who are employed in the race-baiting industry like Jesse and Al and the hordes of wannabes.
Blacks get tasered more because blacks resist more. Case solved. Stop the angry whining about "racism" at every turn. You have no credibility.

Black youths must respect the law; this is a rule and must be obeyed! He would still be alive if he would have kept his trap shut! Sorry it happened; let the living learn from this experience.

So Turner gets mouthy and violent with the cops and suffers the consequences. Sho cares if he died? That just saves the sytem that much more welfare. Not like the moon cricket was gonna contribute to society, anyway. Good riddance to a parasite sucking the blood out of our great country.
TNB needs to be handled with stern force every time.

Okay, yes there is racism in America but I have also been targeted for years by a CRIMINAL ENTERPRISE, A BLACK FAMILY and so there exist real tangible evidence that some black people deserve a healthy dose of tasers.
Is there racism, YES. Should it be spoken up against, yes. But put the blame squarely also in the hands of some of the criminal worms that we have in the black community. They are SCUM and deserve to be tazered, jailed and the key thrown away. SCUM BAGS should not be allowed to hide under the cover of color.

Deaths resulting from being TASED is never justified under any circumstances regardless of the race of the victim. The use of these weapons have been deemed as torture by the UN and Amnesty International has been involved in a campaign to stop the use of them since the early 90s. IMO, however, tasting has taken the place of the robe and tree.
I invite readers to read about the origin of this so-called non-lethal weapon that has taken the lives of so many,

i would rather not be tasered or shot. i am tired of those who should be upholding the law of the land breaking the law and hurting and killing people. i am sick of people who have nothing better to do hurting or killing anybody including the people who are supposed to uphold the law. what are we going to do? i read that the best weapon in the oppressors hand is the oppressed mind. i read in my bible that God has a plan for each of us and it's a plan for good, not evil, to bring us to and expected end. the only answer i have is prayer.
God said that if His people, who are called by his name would humble themselves and pray, and turn from their wicked ways, seek his face, then he would hear from heaven and heal the land. let's all try Him at His word, take a few extra minutes each day and pray for our country, our leaders and our citizens, especially our children. let's get that expected end that God has promised. may God's peace and grace abound for each of us. cgedwards

Our young are really going to have to learn to save their own lives when these trigger happy officers approach them. Remain calm...hush up..they will get their chance to speak. Some of these officers are nuts and they will do anything just to try and make our young go off...and trust me.. it don't take much. The officers are racists and could care less wo they kill. I'm all for maybe giving some lessons to our young on how to act when approached by some of these wild ...crazy prejudice officers. They need to know that these officers hold much power in their hands...and standing in their faces talking back.. word for word.. will not solve it at that moment.

It's funny how they want to say 'they didn't have a weapon', do people realize how easy it is to fatally sttrike a person? Just because they don't have a knife or gun doesn't mean a suspect did not pose a real threat to life or limb. Some people choose to act out, and when authority comes, they want to keep lashing.
The Taser provides another means to subdue a potentially dangerous suspect, it's not meant for use on someone who is just not willing to comply, it is for VIOLENT suspects.
There was a time when using a baton was considered a viable non-lethal method for subdual, even though in inexpirienced hands you could easily kill someone by swinging it overhead, or in a heated fray.
People need to look at the bigger picture, yes there are rogue cops, and they should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, but on the other hand, people also need to accept that a person is responsible for the situation they put themselves in when they threaten someone, or act in a manner that conveys danger to others.
Calling a taser a 21st centruy whip is the most racist garbage, another means of acting the part of the victim. Racism exists, but it is a two way street, and for one group to cry about it every time a member of their demographic is at odds with the law, whether it is legit or not, is in and of itself a racist act.
Why not treat every person as an individual, and look at every case on a singular basis, not to mention that one can reasonibly assume that no research was done into the number of deaths in other demographics, area populations, type of crime, and all parties (perpetraitor, law official, and victim) involved.
The fact is, the manner in which this article is written is to project the idea that all the cases involved abusive, out of control WHITE officers. Which is likely not the case.
I wish hate crime like this racist garbage print would be just as hated as the crimes it claims.
But that would be true equality, and who wants that?
