Presumptive Democratic nominee, Senator Barack Obama, experienced a backlash during one of his speeches today when he was heckled at a town hall meeting in St. Petersburg, Florida by a group of young black men.Actually, let me rephrase that because I think "heckled" is a strong word. Rather, The men held up a sign saying, "What about the black community Obama?" to get his attention. Then, the crowd began chanting in unison, which gained them an aknowledgement from him. Obama maintained his composure throughout the meeting and calmly answered their questions after his speech.
You may be wondering what questions the men had for the first viable African American presidential candidate. Well, they asked about Jena 6, Sean Bell, and other racial incidents over the past two years about which Obama quickly and eloquently responded.
Now, I am not to going to hype up this incident anymore than CNN and other mainstream media have managed to do. The truth of the matter is that presidential candidates get heckled ALL THE TIME. What I will say is that I think the media is playing this one up especially because it is a case of black men rising up to harass another black man, especially this particular black man.
The incident does give me a bit of pause. I think we, as Black Americans need to realize that Barack Obama is not the PANACEA for black people nor is he able to answer for years of oppression and injustice we have faced.
As president, he will not only have to focus on race relations in this country but he has to fix the jacked-up U.S. economy, and work on mending fences in the Middle East.
We, as black folk, won't be able to have him on speed dial whenever something goes wrong in our neighborhoods.
He will be a busy man, just as past presidents have been. What we can hope for is that he gives us a ring every once in a while, which is more than we have gotten during the last eight years of George W. Bush.

The young hackler's comments later that he will not vote for Obama was pure bull.
As if the hackling wasn't bad enough, the dude made a comment that he is not going to vote for Obama.
That dude was out of line with those comments.
Was bush the best alternative? Or will McSame be better than bush? Where is his vote going to? There is only McBush if he can't vote for Sen. Obama.
Staying home is a vote for Sen. Mcain. and he will be glad you did. Moreover, this McSame is the guy who voted against affirmative actions anytime he had a chance, voted against MLK day, and is raised from privilege. he was the last in his class and forced to come and take the "exam" so he can graduate, given that his father and grand father were all highest ranking military officials.
No wonder he got that plane down fast enough to get taken as prisoner (safer than being shot at in the battle fields and get killed in battle). we all know those tactics. If you are not able to fight, try to get cought and make sure they take you without resistance. even if you are tortured, you are still alife.
That doesn't apply to todays'battles with the arab world. They don't play.

The last time I read a scripture in the Bible pertaining to what Obama (who claims Christianity) just said is: HOW can any TWO walk TOGETHER unless THEY AGREE> I want to know what he truly stands for. Now don't get me wrong, I am really proud of his presence and accomplishments, even donated to his campaign. However, I want to know what he truly stands for. I think if they wanted him to denounce GOD at this point he would. AND that is SCARY. He denounced everything else. And in this segment stated that gays should walk w/ straights. NO, I don't agree. I don't advocate hatred either...I advocate TRUTH! The WAY the Truth & the LIFE. I believe the TRUTH (shared in Love) will set any homosexual free. I have seen it in my family & friends. But walking side by side advocating that it is acceptable and True self over choice, bringing things that belong behind closed doors (SEX) to an open forum...NO. I mine-as-well be a christian holding my friends hand in the abortion clinic saying it is the best choice for her life (been there too - of course she was going to die if she didn't). Can these two walk in agreement too? In my 1 case yes I did, but to watch you do it just because you feel like it...No! I nEeD to know OBAMA, where do you stand?

As someone has said before, why don't these same kids ask John "McSame" McCain these questions as they did with Obama?? I can almost guarantee you they'll get thrown out of building!!
Black folks and people that want a change need to realize that Obama is the best thing that we have going. John McCain will do nothing but continue on the same path Bush has us on! Oh, but wait, nothing going wrong with the country is Bush's fault, so if (and God forbid) that McCain gets in office it won't be his fault that this country will probably be on the verge of collapsing!!

Nothing should be more from the truth than the reality that Obama, if elected as President of America, will not be solely the black man's president.
If these same men were down south where situations like Jena are continuing, but not gaining media attention, they would not be in a position to be harassing Obama.
Instead, they should have answers of their own to offer to Obama on what needs to take place to keep justice in the South.
I think it is important for all classes of African-Americans to be mindful that Obama is not just for our people. We sholdn't get special tax breaks or freebies simply because the manis black. Actually, I believe we have a greater reesponsibility when Obama becomes President because the world will be finally watching African-Americans from a new perspective.
Will we embarass Obama? Will we become more responsible in our communities? Will we increase in numbers in professions such as politics, law, education? Will our children have a new sense of pride and improve illiteracy? Will we become better parents?
These are the questions that hecklers seem to dodge when Obama and Cosby throw them out to the crowdsof blacks. It is time for us to step up to the plate and hit home runs with those questions through our actions! Amen? Amen!

I'm curious if these young men are registeted to vote & if you so will they be voting for McCain. Obama is running for president of the US not Mayor or Senator who needs to be addressing those issues. Did these same young men go to George Bush rallys who is our current president, and ask him all of these questions. Just like Obama isnt going to be able fix the mess George Bush made of this economy in 4 years, he's not going to be able to fix century's of racism. Its impossible for any one man to do that except Jesus.

To Lovey # 27 Thank you for the quote, but if you noticed I did not have quotation marks around my whole phrase, (#25) I said whatI meant and I meant what I said, just the way I said it. It was my own spin EXACTLY the way I wanted it said.... The issue remains the same let's just stay focused on THAT.

It's the year 2008 and if you think you are opressed, then you are opressed. You are what you believe and you are what you think. I think it's just an excuse for not improving one's self.
