Even if you're not going to be in Denver at the Democratic National Convention on Sunday, August 24th, you can still satisfy your politics jones with the help of TV One. At 8pm on Sunday, TV One will premiere "In Conversation - The Michelle Obama Interview."
For a full hour, Michelle Obama sits down for an interview with Roland Martin and talks about everything from the secret of her happy marriage to the surprising reason why she decided to support her husband's pursuit of politics. ...
From the press release:
Mrs. Obama tells Martin that she spent much of her marriage trying to talk her husband out of politics, but she says her daughters are at the heart of the reason she decided to support his decision to pursue public office - because she recognized that through politics he could make a better world for them.
She tells Martin that a spouse's role in the campaign is important because it gives a broader insight of who the candidate is. "So much of who I am is where I grew up," Mrs. Obama says.
She talks about growing up on the South Side of Chicago, her father as a shift worker who had MS, and who believed in sacrificing for his family but never complained. She says both her parents taught her the importance of working hard and giving back.
She also believes voters can see themselves reflected in her and her husband's working and middle class family backgrounds. She says that black women, in particular, have not had their views and their lives reflected in the larger world, and she is delighted when she hears from black women that they see themselves reflected in her.
When Martin asks about her relationship with her husband, she says they learned back in his days in the state senate how to sustain their relationship, including carving out a regular date night. She says it's important for her daughters to see their parents' loving relationship, to see them holding hands, and that it helps them feel secure and loved.
While her own schedule is hectic, she recognizes that the average working family faces much more difficult struggles, with every woman she knows struggling to balance resources. She tells Martin that she passionately wants to give voice to the challenges of working families, especially military families, who struggle with housing, schools, and health matters, many of them barely getting by.
Mrs. Obama tells Martin that it's truly humbling to be part of the next step in history, but she clearly does recognize that they are part of a historic moment. "You need to celebrate what [Sen. Obama] represents even if you don't vote for him," Mrs. Obama says.

Michelle, when you say voters can see themselves reflected in you, what do you mean, I don't think a white woman will look at you and see her reflection, If you are talking about blacks I don't know many that can relate to you and Obama's life style living in a two mill house, Remember for some this is the first time they have voted in their life, that is a bit strange to me.

Michelle Obama represents women...not just black. I see myself in her. She comes from a working class family that worked hard for things. She made good grades in college, which led to a law school degree. I am sure Harvard did not give her any favors...yet she persevered. She is truly a remarkable woman.

Michelle Obama does represent American ALL women in the United States...not just black. I am sure many woman can relate to growing up in a working class family. I am sure many woman can relate to the difficulties of reaching a goal that they have set for themselves. Whether the goal is obtaining a cosmetology license or a law degree, it takes hard work! I see myself in Michelle. I am sure it was no ease feat attending law school at Harvard...they probably did not cut her any slack. Michelle does not mind getting into the trenches...which is why she chose to work with the poor after obtaining her law degree. I can relate...and if a woman can not relate to some aspect of her life, then maybe they grew up with a silver spoon and never had to work a day in their life.

Gina, you comments were right on. Any woman, black or white, in this country should be able to see herself in Michelle's shoes and share her background. Michelle Obama grew up poor just like well over half of us and she went to school and worked hard. Did you think it was easy for her father and mother? The comment by (Shirley Holmes) is just stupid. She must have been born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Most women should identiy with Michelle, than those that don't. And lastly, Michelle and her husband worked for what they got, nobody gave it to them. So what if they live in a million dollar home, they worked for it and they deserve it. Why is people like (Shirley Holmes) so down on people like Michelle. Are you jealous or something more sinister? Michelle and Barack is a wonderful looking couple, plus they act like they are in love with one another, and their kids are so cute. I would love for them to be America's first black children in the white house. Now, that would be history being made.

If you hate America and the American people. If you think Americans are just plain mean. If you think America is really spelled Amerikkka. If you believe in God Damn America. If you grew up never being proud of America until recently, then yes, she is YOUR reflection.

To Shirley Holmes: I see myself in Michelle as being a wife and mother and sticking by her husband as well. Although my husband and I did not have the monetary advantages that she has with Mr. Obama we still loved and cared and shared and edified each other to the highest to achieve our highest potentials and goals. And we are black but just enjoyed each other regardless of our income or sometimes struggle with it. It just made us love each other even the more. And I believe in my heart of hearts that's what Sen. and Mrs. Obama have; just a joy for life with each other and a capacity to be content in whatever state they find themselves in. And may I add especially with their two beautiful daughters!

Dear Roland I think you did such a beautiful job interviewing Mrs. Obama and of course I always love to hear and see her speak. I really admire and look up to Mrs. Obama for her gift of public speaking. May the Lord continue to bless you and your husband Mrs. Obama in every way and bless you in every aspect of your lives.

Let us not forget ... that in addition to statements like 'America is a mean country' ... and, 'this is the first time in my adult life that I'm proud to be an American' ... Michelle Obama also made the decision to expose her children for years, to Jeremiah Wright, Pfleiger, Moss, Farrakhan, and the rest of the radical anti-American racists at the black liberation Trinity Church of Chicago. Is this who we want for America's first lady ... I don't think so !!!
