DENVER - With Saturday's announcement of the Obama-Biden ticket, it's showtime. The delegates have arrived, the mikes have been checked and Monday night the curtain rises on the biggest political show to play in Denver in 100 years.
From the Giant Blue Mustang at Denver International Airport to the Giant Blue Bear at the Colorado Convention Center, the Mile High City is alive with anticipation, hope for the future, scattered protesters and T-shirt vendors on every corner.
The 16th Street Mall was packed with people who came from across the country to witness history in the making. ...
The opening event of the 2008 Democratic National Convention was an Interfaith Gathering. Thousands of people attended this first-ever celebration of the intersection of faith, politics and the Democratic Party. They heard musical selections from Richard Smallwood & Vision and The Spirituals Project, who performed stirring versions of "Rock My Soul" and "Oh, Freedom."
Rev. Leah Daughtry, convention CEO and pastor of the House of the Lord Pentecostal Church, said:
We didn't need to bring faith to the party, faith was already here. Democrats are, have been and will continue to be people of faith. And millions of people of faith are, have been and will continue to be Democrats.Rev. Daughtry continued:
The values of fairness, opportunity, inclusion and respect are central to my faith and my party. While our party may not be perfect, it is perfect for me.Democrats' faith will be sorely tested the next few days as they try to bring closure to the long-running Clinton-Obama drama.

Several political analysts have commented that Barack Obama's call to political bruiser Joseph Biden is an "admission that his own meteoric rise and crusade for change are undercut by inexperience and fragile bonds with blue-collar Democrats"
"He's essentially put a middle aged white guy on the ticket, and I think it compromises the change message," said Costas Panagopoulos of Fordham University's Elections and Campaign Management program.
The truth is that no matter who Obama would have picked, he would have been criticized. The status quo male establishment was already prepared to criticize Obama no matter the person he selected.
I am a supporter of the Obama campaign, and many of female friends canvass house-to-house to suport the Democratic ticket.

I feel Obama missed the boat when he chose to ignore Hillary Clinton..I think she would have been the closer on this team and the election would have been a sure thing. Now you have 18 million pissed off supporters that would rather vote for McCain than Obama, just to send a message to the Democratic Party. I am a registered Dem and feel that they really blew it and this election should have been a no brainer for them to win with Bush's disapproval rating. The Party loses this one, their done for.
