DENVER -- Actress Kerry Washington got the early morning Vice Presidential text from Sen. Barack Obama just like a lot of us did.
"I've never been so happy to be woken up in the middle of the night," she told Black Voices.
I caught up with the actress who stars in 'Lakeview Terrace' with Samuel L. Jackson, which opens next month.
Meanwhile, Spike Lee was inside Sunday night's first big convention party getting stars and black lawmakers fired up saying we won't be "bamboozled" again.
Spike and Washington were joined by Gloria Reuben, Susan Sarandon, Lynn Whitfield, the Wu-Tang's RZA, Hill Harper, Alfre Woodard, Omarosa and many more at a private party in Denver honoring African-American leaders. The Creative Coalition and the National Black Caucus of State Legislators sponsored the event.
The coalition is an education and advocacy group for public education and First Amendment rights.BET founder Bob Johnson was also there. He threw his hat in the ring supporting Sen. Hilliary Clinton early and often last year, but told me that he was satisfied with Obama's VP pick, Joe Biden.
However, it is "not the 'Dream Team' I'd hoped for," he said.
"You gotta have someone who can pick up the Clinton votes. He can do the job. He's better than anybody else I can name," Johnson said. "But this is Barack Obama's Election."

I am sick of the Clintons and it is not only the stars that are hire up, We have supported and respected the Clintons for years and they owe the same support and respect to Mr. Obama. I am outrage over the Clintion supporters, we need to ask why, they don't differ on the issues, or is it race? they would rather loose to Bush/McClan than have Mr Obama as president? get over it she loose and if you want to blame anyone try the media, and her campagin.

What I know for a fact is that most BLACKS know how to lose. What if Obama had lost, do you think for one minute that his supporters would be trying to ruin the atmosphere of the convention, do you think for one second, they would protesting against Hilary, NO..........Regardless if whether she is a woman, she is still WHITE and the blacks would have subcomed.

The "stars" should have no more input than any other ordinary citizen of the U.S.A. What makes them special"? As far as the "black"vote, why is it that it is always the blacks that are bringing up racism? Why can't it just be a vote no matter what color the fvoter is?

What is happening is an unusual occurence and as Blacks in America we can't always elude to the fact that things happen because of racism. Sometimes, it is obvious . . . Like others I wonder if Obama had lost the primary if all of the same accomodations would have been extended to him. At this juncture it doesn't matter because he will be the Democratic nominee. Many of the Clinton supporters cannot see through the fact that it is not about 'disrespect' but rather about our future and our children's future. If they insist that our children die in unwarranted wars and that it is ok for the rich to continue to get richer then they can proceed with the divisiveness at this convention.

Tonight my heart leaped at the extraordinary vision from on mile high that was, is and will be our finest First Lady, Michelle Obama. She was as dynamic as Dahomey, she was as regal as Nefertiti, and as true and just as lady Liberty. Michelle, our belle, was like a woman with an issue of blood who has clutched the very fabric America. The blood at issue that she brought before the convention, before Colorado, before the country and all of creation, is the blood of our fore-fathers and fore-mothers that was shed so the world could see such a time as this. My heart ascends with pride, and I will not speculate on the possibility of this queen living in the White House, that for me is a fore-gone conclusion. I will however, proclaim that after tonights oratorical masterpiece, we might cast our vote for her as Commander and Chief in eight more years.

To all CLinton lovers, wake up and smell the coffee, Clinton is not running for President, she lost and Obama won. Now some are talking about not voting or voting for McClann, but you think about it you are only hurting yourselves and your children. Some of you cannot get over the fact that this black man has won the Primary, WELL! HE DID and if you don't vote or vote for McClann whatever happens you contributed to it. Clinton will still be rich and not suffering, but you will suffer trying to be prejudice and still trying to put someone in who did not win. Either you jump on board and back Barack or what you get you deserve and then what will Clinton do?

i had tears of pride and hope as michelle obama gave an extroidnary speech that was not not rehearsed or written by some aide. it was a speech brought up deep from the heart and shared with everyone or anyone who would listen. i'm hoping and will certainly pray that her and senator obama will indeed walk into the whitehouse with such grace and dignity ready to take on the challenges that are ahead. what's so baffling to me is that people just won't see that mccain cares nothing about blacks or the hard working citizen. they(white people) would rather remain struggling then vote for obama because of his color. so sad, and heartbreaking.

Words cannot express the great sense of pride I feel at the posie and graciousness that Barack and Michelle Obama have shown throughout this campaign. There were several times when Barack could have pounced on Hillary during the debates but he didn't. This is because he is a visionary leader who understood that if he emaciated her with words and she won the primary, the Republicans would use his words against her, exactly as they are using Hillary's to try and hurt Obama. It is sad that the McCann group has no real platform and have to resort to low-life politics.
The question that every American ought to be asking is where are we now and how did we get here! Bush/Cheney led the country in to the worst recession since the 1920's. We have over 1 milllion homes in foreclosure, gas is at all time high and food prices are soaring. Unemployment rates are rising and health care is astonomical. Yet, some Americans would rather put an old Republican who does not know what's going on in his own household (when he needs his campaign to let us know how many houses he owns) rather than to elect an intelligent, knowledgeable man like Barack Obama mainly because he is Black. Yes, let the truth be spoken, stop the facade of he's not experienced enough. If expereience is all that it takes, again I ask how did we get here , if the previous administration was soooo experienced. The Hillarites need to understand the voting process, not try to change the rules because again a Black man won. If Hillary had won the nomination, Obama and his supporters would rally behind HIllary. No where is it written that the runner-up in the primary should be chosen as the VP running mate. I want to serve Hillary and all her supporters notice that we who are supporting Obama will not forget how they have tried to manipulate and intimidate not only Obama but the Democratic Party. Another day will come and Hillary will be paid with her own coin, if you get my point.
