DENVER -- Actress Kerry Washington got the early morning Vice Presidential text from Sen. Barack Obama just like a lot of us did.
"I've never been so happy to be woken up in the middle of the night," she told Black Voices.
I caught up with the actress who stars in 'Lakeview Terrace' with Samuel L. Jackson, which opens next month.
Meanwhile, Spike Lee was inside Sunday night's first big convention party getting stars and black lawmakers fired up saying we won't be "bamboozled" again.
Spike and Washington were joined by Gloria Reuben, Susan Sarandon, Lynn Whitfield, the Wu-Tang's RZA, Hill Harper, Alfre Woodard, Omarosa and many more at a private party in Denver honoring African-American leaders. The Creative Coalition and the National Black Caucus of State Legislators sponsored the event.
The coalition is an education and advocacy group for public education and First Amendment rights.BET founder Bob Johnson was also there. He threw his hat in the ring supporting Sen. Hilliary Clinton early and often last year, but told me that he was satisfied with Obama's VP pick, Joe Biden.
However, it is "not the 'Dream Team' I'd hoped for," he said.
"You gotta have someone who can pick up the Clinton votes. He can do the job. He's better than anybody else I can name," Johnson said. "But this is Barack Obama's Election."

I am black and proud but at the same time, we blacks should stop talking about racism as we are the most racial group in America. Look at how we aboundoned the Clintons after calling him the first black president. If Clintons are republicans, they will be preidential candidate for their party till they have no more generation to do the job. Democartic party is self-destructive and we are on the verge of going into political oblivion. The Clintons are the power house of today's politics in America. The Clintons are the name that keeps Republicans on the run and jittering. They brought impeachment and lost. They refused to pass his bill and he shot down the government and Republicans lost. They brought Monica Lewinsky and lost Speaker Gingrich, Livingston, Henry Hyde, Bob Bar, in the house of Representative. What else can this people do for Democratic party for us to give them the respect they truly deserve? We do not want to nominate Clinton, but we want them to campaign for our candidates. In 2000, the man I have enermous respect for Governor Comeo(the spelling might be wrong
) of New York said that if Clinton does not campaign for Al Gore, that Al will lose the election and it happened because Al was stupidly claiming to be his own man. John Kerry lost election in 2004, we shouted, because Bill Clinton did not campaign for him as he should because he wants his wife to run in 2008. If we know the importance of this man, why not respect it? He has been everything to black people but we looked him on the face and spit at him wjo again will come to our course?

Dena Jacobs: what's so baffling to me is that people just won't see that mccain cares nothing about blacks or the hard working citizen. they(white people) would rather remain struggling then vote for obama because of his color
Let me ask - how can you make that statement when you don't know what all white people are thinking? Don't lump all whites into one category. Not everyone in this country is racist, and remember that racism comes from all sides. Just as there are whites who will vote for McCain based on nothing but color, there are blacks who will vote for Obama for the same exact reason. Is that okay?

The racism in this election is nauseating. Blacks keep saying that whites aren't going to vote for Obama because he's black, but how many blacks are going to vote for him simply because he IS black? I'm sure it's about equal, but the whites are the only racist ones???

I enjoyed the democratic convention like the millions of people that were watching,theres no doubt in my mind that obama is the right person for the job and also biden,but the republicans arent serious about the united states of america,they just want to win. it really showed that Mccain isnt serious by choosing someone that doesnt even know whats going on in the states,comeon someone from alaska and why do they think that she will pick up hillary supporters they are two different people with thier own issues,she dont even compare to hillary. i want people to know that whatif something happens to Mccain and she take over what will happen to the united states when it comes to the world,do u think we will get the respect from other countries with a woman at the helm with our lives and our children lives on the line because people in some countries kill women for the hell of it.Thats why i feel that he is playin to win the race instead of thinking about the people of the united states safety.

Sometimes it takes a nation to raise a child, however if the nation has but negativity to feed onto that child then that child does not get raised!
