Though the band played "Gonna Have a Funky Good Time," there wasn't much energy in the Pepsi Center. That is until Michelle Obama rocked the house. ...
Michelle was introduced by her brother Craig who spoke lovingly of his big sister:
We lost my father in 1991.With that Michelle stepped out on stage and shared her story:
And I know he's looking down on us tonight, so proud of his daughter, not because of who she married, though he was a big fan of Barack – but because of the hard-working, brilliant woman she is, what she's accomplished in her own right, the mother she's become, and the values she's instilled in her daughters.
I come here tonight as a sister, blessed with a brother who is my mentor, my protector and my lifelong friend.Michelle also shared stories about Barack, the man who would be the first African American President of the United States:
I come here as a wife who loves my husband and believes he will be an extraordinary president.
And you know, what struck me when I first met Barack was that even though he had this funny name, even though he'd grown up all the way across the continent in Hawaii, his family was so much like mine. He was raised by grandparents who were working class folks just like my parents, and by a single mother who struggled to pay the bills just like we did. Like my family, they scrimped and saved so that he could have opportunities they never had themselves. And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you're going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don't know them, and even if you don't agree with them. While acknowledging that their improbable journey could only happen in America, Michelle said:
America should be a place where you can make it if you try. After her speech, Michelle was joined on stage by her two daughters, Malia and Sasha. Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely" was playing in the background.
Yes, she is.

Michelle Obama looked so ELEGANT last night! I agree there wasn't that much energy until Michelle Obama gave that speech. That speech was right on POINT and she gave it from her HEART! Michelle just wanted to re introduce herself and Obama. She said that she loves AMERICA! It didn't matter what color you were in that audience. A lot of women and men had tears in their eyes. I liked when the their children interacted with Barack on the Via Satellite. That gave you a sense of feel on what kind of close knit family and they are just like US! She Delivered very well and stressed that her and Obama's VALUES are the same as US! I liked when the Kennedy's went on stage. When Sen. Ted Kennedy came on stage, it what an emotional moment.
I am glad that on DAY 1 no one did any bashing. The Republicans complained about of the Democrats being to SOFT last night. This show was about FAMILY and FAMILY VALUES not about POLITICS. Hey, this was BARACK and the & the Democrats party's NIGHT! Who cares who didn't APPROVE!

Michelle made me so proud to be a black female. Being that I'm single she gave me reason to wait until I find my Barack. I'll be cheering for the Obamas on vote day.

How do you attend a church for 20 years that teaches hate????? I've experienced just about every religion available and ever once did I hear that the black or white man was evil... I just don't get it.

Oh come on now, we all know she has her down falls, so don't go putting this person that has put down America on a pedestal. Next thing you know, you will think she is presidential material, when she definitely is not even first lady material even with all of her coaching and make over. Just give it up with her.

Last night I wanted my girls(same age as the Obama girls)to stay up and watch Michelle's speech but they could not hold out. I had goose bumps and I cried and I cheered. Being an african american female raisig 2 beautiful daughter's alone, it gives me great pride to watch michelle talk about her husband with such passion and speak of the love her father had for their family makes me cry. My daughters dont have a strong black father figure in their lives but I try to instill in them that is a sad thing but you take the lessons that I'm trying to teach you and learn from them and be strong. The Obama's are what this country needs at this time, not the same old cookie cutter first family. It's time to add a little color to the White House.
