On this day, the 45th anniversary of the March on Washington and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s iconic "I Have a Dream" speech, Barack Obama assured his place in history as the first African American presidential nominee of a major political party.Obama's acceptance speech was delivered at Mile High Stadium. The doors were thrown open seven hours before he was scheduled to appear. The lines snaked for blocks, across railroad tracks and under a bridge. After a 45-minute wait for the light rail, it took me nearly an hour to get into the stadium.
The neoclassical stage at the 50-yard line stood out like a holding penalty. To me, it evoked the Lincoln Memorial. For some, the stage resembled an ancient Greek temple.
The atmosphere was more like a rock concert than a national political convention. To while away the time, Obama supporters did the wave, text-messaged and enjoyed performances by will.i.am, John Legend, Sheryl Crow, Michael McDonald and Stevie Wonder who sang "Signed, Sealed, Delivered."
Rep. John Lewis led a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. At an earlier commemoration, Lewis recounted:
Dr. King said that he has a dream that's deeply rooted in the American Dream. We're here in Denver making a down payment on that dream.Indeed, Obama took the stage and stepped into the history books:
With profound gratitude and great humility, I accept your nomination for the presidency of the United States.Obama's speech was entitled "The American Promise." Like Dr. King 45 years ago, he appealed to the better angels of our nature:
America, we are better than these last eight years. We are a better country than this.Obama offered the hope of a new "promissory note":
We measure progress by how many people can find a job that pays the mortgage, whether you can put a little extra money away at the end of each month so you can someday watch your child receive her college diploma. There was never any doubt that Obama would give a good speech. His supporters left Invesco Field "fired up, ready to go!" But as I sat in the stadium, I wondered whether undecided voters who were watching were turned off by the spectacle of 85,000 foot-stomping supporters chanting, "Yes, we can."
We measure progress in the 23 million new jobs that were created when Bill Clinton was President – when the average American family saw its income go up $7,500 instead of go down $2,000, like it has under George Bush.
Obama's convention bounce will measure whether his acceptance speech was good enough to convince undecided voters that he shares their values and is ready to lead.

I (who am, by the way, of the "caucasian persuasion)SINCERELY wish Obama and Biden well --- certainly this country DESPERATELY NEEDS something far BETTER than merely a "McBush".
But mere LEGAL "expertise", and "foreign policy experience" DOES not and CANnot go very far toward ACTUALLY addressing the MASSIVE challenge that this society REALLY faces --- which is nothing less than the prospect of having to SUBSTANTIALLY RECONSTITUTE ITS ENTIRE ENERGY "DIET"! And doing THAT undoubtedly IS going to result in a HUGE disruption of MUCH of the "economic" structure and process that have grown up in connection with "our" PRESENT "dispensation" of things!
A lot of FOOLISH people over here seem to imagine that “we" must, at ALL costs, “defend" (even by MURDEROUS AGGRESSION if need be) "our" fossil-fuels “paradigm" --- NOTWITHSTANDING the FACT that such a "mindset" has now DEMONSTRABLY cost THE VERY LIVES of about a MILLION or so hapless Iraqis (and still counting). THAT is a reality that we now KNOW --- when one HONESTLY connects (ALL) the dots and actually LOOKS AT the "EXCESS DEATHS" figures, which are the REAL measure of all the REAL PEOPLE who HAVE perished over there as a result of this nation's "initiative" to "control” THEIR OIL! That HAS in fact been the ACTUAL primary cost!
But a substantial (minority) political faction here arrogantly DISCOUNTS all of that, and somehow imagines itself to be “true defenders of ‘The Faith’”, possessed of “superior” wisdom and some sort of “divine mandate”. Moreover, they have wormed their way into the economic/political “power structure”, and have RIFLED THE NATIONAL TREASURY and GONE OFF ON A TOOT TRYSTING WITH WINDMILLS. They then try to get away with IGNORING the REALITY and the sheer MAGNITUDE of what they have done!
But guess what! "Mere" "ETHICS" aside, REGARDLESS of whether one is "soft-hearted" or "hard-headed", "WE" REALLY CAN'T AFFORD (even from just an "ECONOMIC" standpoint!) oil at what is ACTUALLY the TRUE price of a barrel of the stuff when one HONESTLY factors into that figure the HUGE COST of all that MILITARISM “we” have been witnessing for the last seven years!
"We" MAINLY need to get SERIOUS about ACTUALLY IMPLEMENTING the ALTERNATIVE ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES needed to enable "us" to WEAN "our"selves OFF of "our" ADDICTIVE DEPENDENCY on OTHER PEOPLES' OIL! Now THAT is what is REALLY "JOB 1" --- and NOT more mere "Foreign Policy" machinations and "initiatives"! "We" now KNOW --- as has LONG been actually QUANTITATIVELY GAUGED via the insightful analysis first pioneered by a Petroleum Industry engineer named HUBBERT, and much refined by his successors --- that “WE” HERE IN THIS PART OF THE WORLD HAVE BY NOW CONSUMED ABOUT 70% of "our" original providential endowment of oil, and that EVERYONE ELSE’S endowment is ALSO destined to steadily decline as well. It is QUITE CLEAR that in order to deal with THAT reality "we" ARE GOING TO HAVE TO HAVE TO CHANGE OVER to OTHER energy sources entirely!
People can BLATHER all they like about "lofty" causes like "spreading ‘democracy’" --- but meanwhile there are SERIOUS, PRACTICAL concerns that ACTUALLY need to be GENUINELY ADDRESSED! And that really CAN'T be achieved by simply "more aggressively pursuing” EITHER “al-Qaeda” OR the DECLINING DREGS of "our" OWN originally quite substantial but by now much diminished providential endowment of oil. Face REALITY, people: "OUR" "EASY" OIL IS NOW LARGELY GONE!
The REMNANT is now to be found in LOW-CAPACITY "STRIPPER" WELLS, or WAY DEEP, or UNDER WATER, or somewhere NORTH OF THE ARCTIC CIRCLE --- all of which are QUITE EXPENSIVE TO "PRODUCE", so that "we" will NOT be able to "shave" very much (if anything) off the "price at the pump" by trying to rely at all heavily on THOSE resources!
Rather, what obviously WOULD result from such attempts would be MORE of what we have ALREADY seen: STEADILY INCREASING ECONOMIC SUBSERVIENCE to those who still possess substantial supplies of “EASIER” oil!
And THAT would ultimately come to mean RUSSIA(!) --- which now has about TWICE AS MUCH OIL AS ANYBODY (by about a factor of about TWO over “Saudi” Arabia!). The Russians possess TWO HUGE “easy” oil reserves: one in the CRIMEAN region and another, even LARGER one over in SIBERIA --- BOTH of which exceed those of the “Saudis”. (“Iraq” comes in only FOURTH in that “derby”!) Furthermore, the Russians have by now ALREADY BRILLIANTLY “DITCHED” “their” rather backward (in many cases largely impoverished) economic-albatross former “satellites”, and have thereby TRANSFORMED themselves into a VERY FORMIDABLE ECONOMIC COMPETITOR to “The West”! If this nation actually wants to maintain any degree of “primacy” in the world, THAT is the competition that it REALLY has to “LEAP-FROG” --- and THAT mandates a HUGE inevitable “paradigm CHANGE”!
My point to the people out there in "Internet Land" is that you REALLY need to get off of your FANTASIES and "political NUANCE" nonsense and actualy EDUCATE yourselves about what is REALLY the MAIN concern of the day! Quit OBSESSING OVER FOOLISHNESS and GET BUSY! As things presently stand, all many people are ACTUALLY doing is merely REARRANGING DECK CHAIRS ON THE TITANIC!

We are all one! We have seen what war will do...do we really believe that killing each other will make peace in the world? McCain thinks the war is fine and wants to continue it...that is enough for me to vote for Obama. He is neither black or white, but a wonderful combination of both...but more importantly an intelligent, articulate man that wants the best for the American people and the world.

. If you listened to the Republican CON-vention, it was easy to see that the entire parade of so-called "Christian evangelicals" was a deliberate, unrelenting effort to mock, ridicule, humiliate, debase and degrade Senator Obama AND his wife. It was like a spectacle of the type seen in the Coliseum of ancient Rome, when REAL CHRISTIANS were fed to the lions for the amusement of a drunken, belligerent and rowdy mob.
MAKE NO MISTAKE, the Godless Republicans will do ANYTHING to stay in power -- and although SOME whites (and even a few blacks) may deny it, this was made possible -- at least in part -- because Senator Obama is BLACK. I have NEVER witnessed such OVERT PERSONAL ATTACKS such as this on a presidential candidate by ANYBODY in my life -- but this is by AN ENTIRE POLITICAL PARTY and is right out in the open. There was a time when even some of the openly racist Southerners would have balked at this. But not this time. Most of these fake "Christians" were frenzied and virtually drooling for more. And, just as during slavery, it was not the slaves, but those who imagined themselves "masters" who were, by their own acts, degraded and debased before the world -- and BEFORE GOD.
To paraphrase a true patriot, Thomas Paine, "Brother Obama is already in the field! Why stand we here idle? Is life so dear or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of constant humiliation, degradation and mental slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take, but as for me and my people, GIVE US LIBERTY OR GIVE US DEATH".
But this time, we don't have to die. All we have to do is to REGISTER TO VOTE -- and encourage everyone who hasn't -- to REGISTER AND VOTE. It's as simple as that. THIS MAY BE THE LAST SHOT WE GET FOR A LONG, LONG TIME. THIS MEANS EX-CONVICTS TOO. Many states allow ex-felons to vote, but even if they don't, I say make sure that they get registered, anyway. This has been one of the ways that blacks have been denied the vote SINCE EMANCIPATION. First, it was the ability to read, then, poll taxes and property taxes and land ownership and having to explain passages in the constitution, ad nauseum -- and now, millions are being disenfranchised by being "felonized". For those who ARE legally denied the right to vote in a few states, REGISTERING AND VOTING is a NON-VIOLENT way to CHALLENGE this disenfranchisement. After all, EVEN IF A STATE SAYS AN EX-FELON CAN'T VOTE, THIS IS HOW TO CHALLENGE THAT LAW. What is the state going to do -- arrest people for trying to vote in America? The news would spread ALL OVER THE WORLD like a wildfire -- AND SHOULD RESULT IN MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS ACTUALLY BEING ABLE TO LEGALLY VOTE.
As of this moment this is a nationwide campaign, so spread the word EVERYWHERE; EVERYBODY SHOULD REGISTER AND VOTE. If there are any doubts or questions, please contact me at Jesterfuul@aol.com -- and always remember this: I LOVE YOU AND WISH YOU peace!!!! LET"S DO THIS!!! ~LOUIS CHITTY~
Make no mistake: OUR TIME HAS COME! All we have to do is seize the moment.

I have a problem that people don't think much about their living conditions. Losing jobs, housing, food, can't afford gas. Most of the people that are going to vote, will probably vote for McCain because of his color and not the issues. His win will only keep on track for failure. We have had eight years of the Bush family in the white house and the governor of Florida. We need something new and fresh and getting a woman that ran a small store front mayor's office is the best White Hope that we have?? I am so tired of hate being the driving force in everything that happens. I pray that God will put up one and take down another as His word is stated in Psalms 75. I believe that people are so wrapped up in color that they would give this country over to people who only want to satisfy the rich. We the people need to start thinking for themselves and not a tickle in the ear. The road to destruction is wide and the road to doing the right thing is very lonely. People start thinking for yourselves. When I looked out at the people at the Rep. Convention it attest that these people is a one race party and if the little tokens think they are apart of it they have another thought coming. Look at the Mayor in Illinois, He was up and I bet at one time he trusted them and they are the one's that took him down a notch. My mother use to say, keep living!
