"Seismic" is how the pundits described Barack Obama's speech accepting the Democratic party's nomination for President of the United States.
Shaken free of my cynicism is how I feel right now. I experienced this history with Twitterfriends and my mom on Twitter. Simultaneously I was instant messaging my oldest friend, who is in all ways except biology my "sister," and who was at Mile High Stadium.
And I was also on the phone with my dear husband who is in Europe on business; we watched together. I cried less than I thought I would, but I was much more deeply moved and motivated than I anticipated. I think I needed to be sure that Barack Obama would fight to win in November. I had to be sure Barack Obama would be willing to punch back without hesitation at every insulting and diminishing John McCain/Karl Rove attack lobbed his way.
For a long time, I did not believe it was possible for Barack Obama to win the nomination. I thought Obama was too ambitious and I thought America too closed-minded to vote for this new voice. It was not only that Barack Obama self-identified as black, but that his full name is Barack Hussein Obama. I figured the first black candidate to win a major party nomination would be like Colin Powell or Condi Rice. I figured it would have to be a black person who was a self-described conservative, one who would pledge in some unspoken way not to stir things up too much.
It was another of my oldest friends, a fifty-something, white conservative Republican, political dynamo, who kept pressing her point to me that Barack Obama would indeed win the nomination. At about mid-point in the primary battle she called Obama's victory correctly. But we've flipped now. I believe he will win the presidency and she believes he cannot. This time I need to be right.
All I can know is that I will work in my little corner of the world to make sure Barack Obama wins in November. I feel like we are in a battle for the soul of America right now. I know it sounds like hyperbole, but that is actually how I feel. I want every child in this nation to have the opportunities and support I had to move from poverty to abundance. And I believe only Barack Obama will restore support for the middle class. I've already recruited some friends to volunteer for Barack Obama and I will recruit others. I will call the Obama campaign tomorrow to get busy with voter registration. And on November 4th, I will be supervising a very big precinct and I assure you no shenanigans will be taking place on my watch.
I first saw Barack Obama speak in a small room, with only a hundred or two others, about 16 months ago. He was confident, open, comfortable and whip smart. I did leave that room with my head spinning. I understand the accusations of "Obamamania" because it easy to be seduced by keen intelligence and articulated passion when we have been starving for it for the last 8 years. I am not glassy eyed anymore. I am steely and determined. No matter how this all plays out, I am determined to not be one who will say "I sat on the sidelines."
How about you?

So, OK, Iam a 70 year white male who was not sure I would ever see an event like this. I am so proud of Obama and hang on his every word for change we can believe in. I have been going on other blog sites and sickened by the hateful comments of Republicans so I say to all of you vote Democratic and bury the other bigots forever!!!

I see disaster ahead if the undecided and die hard Hillary supporters get caught in voting for a woman OVER voting for the issues. I see Sarah Palin as a normal person with average problems but she is NO HILLARY CLINTON, regardless of who would have won the democratic nomination i would have voted for Hillary or Barack because where they both stand on the issues, not because one is black or a woman.Barack has to walk a finer line in attacking her credentials because some women are going to take it personally and vote against their own interests.Women are always saying they want to be treated as an equal but are the first to cry sexism.I never once heard Obama cry racism even though theres plenty of it affecting his polling numbers, although others pointed it out for him. The only person that can attack her credentials and lack of readiness and get away with it is Hillary.Hillary was a great candidate but she kept shooting herself in the foot and maybe one day she will make history but the republicans are trying to win off sympathy votes and that is the danger the Obama campaign faces in Palin. I think McCain and Palin both have poor judgement and this scandal speaks for itself. If the only way you can win is by selecting a female with so many issues that anyone who attacks her risks looking like a sexist, a bully, because she has a sick baby, pregnant teen, and corruption branded on her back...

It would really be wise of people to stop being so myopic in their discernment of others based solely on the color of their skin. Martin Luther King was beaten, jailed, and assassinated for his enduring efforts to open up the minds of all individuals that are mentally impaired by race that "A man should not be judged by the color of his skin, but by the contents of his character." Jails are full of all races of people, and these wars that America is fighting is being fought by all races of people. Obama is a kind, honest, compassionate man who cares about all people. People who know anything about him, knows that he was raised by a single white woman, who loved him very dearly and instilled these beautiful qualities in him. Other than his wife and kids, the rest of his family is caucasian. His mother, grandparents, and other relatives loved him dearly, and he mutually loves them dearly. Obama is not trying to be president to give any one set of people favoritism, he is trying to restore America in which he and we live to a state of security and well being for us all. His campaign for this change that America is in dire need of is respectable. He does not distort words or phrases to convey enmity towards others like McCain and Palin does. He does not play those juvenile games, that McCain calls political games, because he's too concerned about the serious issues facing America to be diverted with senseless B.S. Everyone should lay their political allegiance aside for a moment and think, with the knowing in your mind that whatever directly affects one of us - indirectly affects all of us (High food and gas prices, joblessness, no healthcare, foreclosures, unequal pay for employees, etc). By the way, him selecting Palin as his running mate was just a way of finessing the public in an act of usury in order to get the female vote. Just read some of the news articles that so many people have written about the history of McCain, and some of them are by Republicans.

There are so many negative historical facts about McCain, and not to mention how he used to be constantly hurling obscenities at reporters and others. He should have enough discipline and tact to respectfully answer questions, even if they're not the questions he wants to hear. Although this information can be found on one of the above listed websites, I wanted to recap on this historical fact about McCain...
Back in the old days, defendants in famous trials got numbers -- the Chicago Eight, the Gang of Four, the Dave Clark Five, the Daytona 500. McCain was one of the "Keating Five," congressmen investigated on ethics charges for strenuously helping convicted racketeer Charles Keating after he gave them large campaign contributions and vacation trips.
Charles Keating was convicted of racketeering and fraud in both state and federal court after his Lincoln Savings & Loan collapsed. Charles Keating gave the senators hefty campaign contributions, then called on them to meet with bank regulators to pressure them to go soft on an the investigation of Lincoln Savings & Loan, where Keatings stole the money of its bank depositors, which ultimately cost its depositors and the American taxpayers $3.4 billion dollars. His convictions were overturned on technicalities; for example, the federal conviction was overturned because jurors had heard about his state conviction, and his state charges because Judge Lance Ito (yes, that judge) screwed up jury instructions. Neither court cleared him, and he faced new trials in both courts.) How many of you remember that -- or was hurt by that?
And read - http://www.crooksandliars.com/ - to see what so many people in Anchorage, Alaska feel about Sarah Palin.

Our economy has and is continuing to rapidly spiral into disaster under the Republican Regime, while McCain parades around this country lying about fighting against his republican party – what a big obvious hoax. Look at our economy! It’s a shame! It’s a shame how the U.S. dollar has declined in value, banks are filing bankruptcy, the stock market is failing, American jobs have been outsourced to other countries so that the rich can use poor third world people to get richer, while millions of Americans are going without jobs. And during this drastic time under the Republican regime people from other countries are being invited here to compete for whatever American jobs that the illegal immigrants have not been given by companies in order to avoid paying the immigrant decent living wages and benefits. The current president stole and cheated his way into office, and immediately created a disaster. And now the republican senator campaigning for president is trying to lie his way into office, while trying to misconstrue people’s minds and create disdain toward the Democratic Presidential Elect with silly fraudulent accusations. We got bigger fish to fry, than someone lying about someone saying that someone else look like a pig, and creating all that silly propaganda about. I remember one of my college instructors telling me, “You’re either going to dazzle people with brilliance, or baffle them with bullshit,” and so McCain & Palin has opted to try to baffle people with bullshit, and it’s sad that some people are falling for it.
Here’s an excerpt from this website -http://www.wakeupfromyourslumber.com/node/6065 - about McCain’s view on the economy: Not long ago, McCain stated to a journalist that, “Economics isn’t my strong suit.” But, he added, he is reading Greenspan. That would be Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan who, during his tenure, expanded the money supply more than in all the years since 1913. The Greenspan who kept the printing presses running at warp speed, turning out little pieces of paper called money and backed by the promises of politicians. Alan the Inflator fueled the dotcom bubble, the stock market bubble, and more recently the real estate bubble. It is no wonder that the LONDON ECONOMIST recently pegged 2007 true U.S. inflation at 17%. Just what we need – another president who is an economic illiterate. It’s such small consolation that McCain admits it to be true, because if elected, he’d appoint the wrong advisors.

LONG LIVE PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA!
Obama is a racial-minority individual and does not like racism:
I know it may be hard to believe.
However, it is absolutely true that Ronald Wilson Reagan committed horrible, racist, hate crimes during his presidency.
A lot of people know about Reagan’s infamy.
And a lot of people will know about Reagan’s infamy—even until the end of human existence: they’ll find out.
Numbers 32:23: “Be sure your sins will find you out.”
