While at the Republican Convention, I have run across a few minorities who are going to vote for the former Arizona senator and are looking forward to standing behind him in his bid for the White House.
However, the question is, does John McCain REALLY have his finger on the pulse of the African-American community?
I took some time to speak with C.J. Jordan, who is the National Coordinator of African-Americans for McCain. Here is what she had to say exclusively to BV about the idea that Republicans are elitist, the problem of gun violence in the black community, and more :

She sounds ridiculous, Okay yeah Republican had a relationship with African American after the Emancipation Proclamation, but afterwards they wouldnt do anything but enforce Jim Crow laws, it wasn't until FDR that Blacks started to see some relief through the New Deal, a "government program" that gave jobs and assistance. And FDR even let Blacks in the DNC whereas the RNC wouldn't. And the FDR had a black give a one of the address speeches at the DNC.
So CJ. Jordan spare me the rhetoric. And yes some Democrats have money, but there are more Republicans with money than there are Democrats. So give me a break and spare up the "BS."

In response to the first 3 comments....Please spare me the ignorance.
Go to the National Black Republicans website at www.nationalblackrepublicans.com and EDUCATE yourself about the HISTORY OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.
The Republican party have put in place and supported programs to help Blacks than the Democrats would care to even think about.
For instance, a white Republican put up the money to start Spellman College in Atlanta. The college has her name today.
The Republican party was formed in 1854 in opposition to SLAVERY.
President Nixon signed Affirmative Action laws.
President Reagan sign MLK Birthday as a National Holiday.
CIVIL RIGHTS law of 1965 could not have pass without the MAJORITY OF REPUBLICANS Supporting it.
BY THE WAY....MLK jr was a REPUBLICAN, so I guess he did not care anything about Black people either.
GROW UP AND WAKE UP BLACK AMERICA....
THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS TYPE OF IGNORANCE IN THE 21ST CENTURY.
GO READ AND DO RESEARCH

Hi Jarvis:
If you haven't noticed, the things you have listed all happened some time ago. Can you name anything significant that Republicans have done currently that have impacted and continues to benefits the African-American community today? This is 2008, not 1968 or 1868. I hear these kind of things that you have listed stated by white Republicans, but uhh that's about it.

Jarvis, one thing I do is educate myself on the Republican party. The party is not the party it was during the Lincoln era, nor is it the party it was during Dr. King's time. It has taken at least 40 yrs. to bring the party to what it is at present. The party has been hijacked by Karl Rove (who was a student of Lee Atwater, one of the most negative strategist ever. Even worse than Joseph McCarthy) and Dick Cheney. Their idealism does not include the black population. Of course they will keep a few blacks around to make it "look" like they care. The party exhibit blatant racism and they don't care how anybody feel about it. I'm not saying that there are not racists in the Democratic party, but they are not as blatant as the Republicans.

Yes Jarvis, the history of the relationship between balacks and the repulbican party are true BUT... that was long ago and issues and that are facing african americans today are not being supported by the republicans of today! After King was assasinated and the all the riots in the black cites like detroit and, the political views took a major shift as did the economy and the jobs and education and those now rich republicans could give a damn! On a lighter note, I went to the web site and was suprised that Denzel is a republican...Damn him too huh? Harriet and Sojourner Truth too... WOW

For Jarvis and C.J. Jordan, why is it that government assistants is the first thing that comes out of a republicans mouth. I do not know ever when I or any of my family recieved any assistance. Do you not know that African-Americans pay taxes are have them taken out of their payroll checks on the federal and state levels but see none of that money come back to our communities? For any working class white-american they are constantly blessed with differeant incentives for paying taxes. Free cable in their neighborhoods, roadside clean-up, crime watch, no liquer stores, and the list goes on. If you really want to know the truth, go to Pennsylvania or Georgia and see all of the white folks getting welfare, leaving in tenament buildings, trailor parks, rv's and walking the streets turning tricks for crack. These are the neighborhoods that news reporters won't dare go in because they will expose the truth!
