New York state governor David Paterson and presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama kicked off the "ServiceNation Presidential Forum" on the campus of Columbia University on Thursday night. The forum was held on the seventh anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, which led to one of the greatest examples of relief efforts and community service in American history.Whether it's teacher or a fireman, police officer or hospital worker, movie star Tobey Maguire , R&B sensation Usher and Caroline Kennedy led a star-studded cast that gave thanks to all people in our society that make a difference daily.
"I applaud Barack Obama for his community service, " said John McCain which comes in stark contrast to controversial comments about community service his running mate Sarah Palin made just one week ago in her Republican National Convention V.P. nomination acceptance speech. McCain then went on to speak of his great respect for community organizers, saying that small-town mayors have some of the toughest jobs in the world.
Inspiration to serve your country or community was the prevailing theme of the forum.
"Its not about the individual, it's the quality of service, " said John McCain.
He then went on to add, "Americans are ready to be inspired, once we restore trust in government, create jobs with a reasonable future, the citizens will have incentive to volunteer in their community or join the military."
Meanwhile, Barack Obama said we needed an "all hands on deck approach to service." Everyone should contribute to our society.
"Young people should join FEMA, Peace Corps, and the military," said Obama.
"Inspiration" is the key component of community service that Obama stressed. According to him, the government should increase avenues of opportunity and provide inspiration for people to serve."
"Public service has built this country, and every bit of progress in this country has made is due to public service," said Obama.

I don't understand why the news media is alwasy talking about the (white women) making the difference in the election. What about our (Black Sisters), don't we count? I can clearly see the racism abounding. My advice to all Black (Black Sisters), who dont't seem to count, just get out and vote in record numbers. If we don't, mark my words we are going to be sorry and much worse off in the next four years, and more. McCain and McPalin are for the rich period. With the way the economyis, with the war, and now the giant investment banks down, what next. John McCain with his 11 houses and rich wife will not be affected. It people like you and me that will get pooer and pooer.

When you have a "C" student (my bet is an "F" student) running the country this is what you get. McCain also was a below average student and you thing he's going to do better, I think not. Wake up people or you too will be losing your home, job, and join the growing number of people in line at the welfare office. Bush/McCain are idiots i could have done a better job running this country. The one thing they're done very well is running our country in a ditch. McStupid for president, I think NOT.

This was soooo beautiful that I had to share it.
From Letters to the Editors @ Fort Worth Star-Telegram - today
How racism works
What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review? What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class? What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said “I do” to? What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife after she no longer measured up to his standards?
What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not only became addicted to pain killers, but acquired them illegally through her charitable organization? What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard? What if Obama were a member of the “Keating 5”? What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?
This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

Why does AOL spend so much time promoting Mccain and Palin. The vast majority of your issues concerning this election is about Mccain and/or Palin. I did not select Black Voices to hear how great M/P are. As African Americans we deserve better. I hear enough of this crap on the regular news media. Please give me a break.
It is a fact that Palin has no credentials for the office she is aspiring to hold. Please show us Obama.

Well,Well,Well,i guess things are definitely looking good for our next Great President of the U.S.,Mr.Barack Obama, from the looks of this Blog today if election we're tommorrow Barack would when in a landslide,i guess what it all boils down to is reality, the masses Black and White, are finally see the big picture,McIdiot and Sarah Failin are just that Idiots that are trying to continue to destroy our beautiful Country and continue to practice the failed politics of the past 8yrs. under George Bushwack, but yall are gonna fade quickly in to the night come November 4th when all the intelligent people of this Country,Black and White,Asian,Hispanic, will vote for Mr.Barack Obama to be the next great leader,he has vision, smarts and a plan to turn this country around, what does the other side have?Nothing, but away for the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer,McIdiot recently stated that our present state of the Economy is only a little messed up,not too bad though!,where has he been at the last 8yrs?on Mars?and what has he been smoking, just ask all of the people who,go to work everyday to support their families how the economy is,gas prices are too sky high, food as well, people are struggling not to lose their homes, because of sky high property taxes, the Wall Street is in horrible shape, our whole economic infrastructure is in bad shape, and McIdiot is trying to hide that fact, like we're all a bunch of 1st graders who don't know any better,Barack is way ahead of the McIdiot and Sarah Failin,he acknowledges that we're in bad shape and i believe he's bright enough and passionate enough and cares about this Country way more than the other side,he's not some inconsiderate, selfish, money hungry person like the Republicans and Old man McIdiot and his flunky Sarah Failin are,NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN,BARACK OBAMA/JOE BIDEN '08!!!!!!!!!!!

7 weeks to go! What will you do america. This is not simply another election. This election will decide your fate and the fate of your children from this point on.Now you know the truth behind the 100 year war in the middle east and our economic collapse.Obama's stimulus package is the only thing that can prevent a recession from devolving into a nationwide depression.Regardless of what Mccain has ficticiously reinvented himself to be...he will be amongst the 1% that will aquire 30% to 44% or more of the national wealth. We all know who his wife is.
The deal is quite simple, as the central bank can no longer milk the american public of the money they produce, the property of americans will be confiscated (as we are beginning to witness).
If a thing looks like a pig, smells like a pig...and even you put lipstick on it... it still a pig!
(the term pig does not apply to the term used in the 1960's to describe police officers. Most police officers are well intentioned citizens that are also made puppets...like most of us.)

This is no time to be the polite respectful and subserviant black man running for an office never before held by a person of color. It is a fight for the presidency of the United States bro Barack. The opposition is loaded for bear and so should you whether it be a female bear or male bear. You got to get it going brother. You have the class and style to address all these issues most aggressively do it. Don't let missy soften you. She entered the race with all her warts and blemishes showing , take advantage of it brother before you become the "Also Ran". Dont be coward by the fact one of your rivals is a female. She certtainly isn't sparing any words or deeds in your favor as a "BLackMan' why should you be so sparing of her. Let the world know a black man can be forcefully right when necessary and that it being arrogant thats just wanting to win thwe "Prize" attitude a winner must have. Come on Brother show'em what you got. And it aint "ARROGANCE" its just basic justifiable "Winner Mentality"!!!!!!!! All men and women poosess it even Black man and women!!!!!!!
