Now, the last high-profile folks I heard of to be found guilty of lying under oath got way more than 120 days in jail (for example Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Lil Kim), so Kilpatrick should thank his lucky stars (and prison stripes) that he didn't get worse. ...
But man, the judge laid into him, chastising him like a high school freshman who dropped water balloons from the balcony above the gym.
"Ultimately what shocked this Court and much of the community was your press conference after your plea hearing. That night the community expected to hear a message of humility, remorse, and apology. Instead, we heard an arrogant and defiant man who accused the governor, among others, for his downfall. Your statements were incredible given the fact that you had just pled guilty to two felony counts for perjury and obstruction of justice and no contest to one count of assaulting a police officer in exchange for dismissal of 7 counts before this Court. Although the Probation Department's pre-sentence report indicates that you have accepted responsibility for your actions, this Court questions your sincerity..."
Actually, it was harsher, like if he dropped water-filled condoms; which makes a better metaphor since what he did was both more costly and would have been funny to him if he had gotten way with it.

What happen to the mayor of Detroit, hashappen in the the good old u.s.a.since there has been a government. He just got caught, look at JKF, NIxon < Bush and the list can go on and on. As far as his wife goes she's like any women that wants her marriage to work as in the past (like other women) she is sticking by her man. Why do people consider the ex-mayor a thug-- he's a young man who at one time could have done an excellent job if he would have stayed focus.

I'm not saying that Kwame was right for his mess he did. However he is not the downfall of the City of Detroit. The Auto indstry is that's what becomes of any city when the source of income, survial has been taken away the city becomes an eye sore. Deterioation will come. White folks ran to the other side of 8 mile--now they are trying to come back to live by the water and the lofts. Detroit will boom again but the citzen need to aware of who they choose for their mayor make sure he/she is not and uncle tom thaqt will sale them with the water and the loft. Yopu see that was something Kwame was not an uncle tom. He could have be a warrior if he would have stayed still tall firm.

I'd lived in Detroit for 30 years an proud of it. Since Kwame been mayor, the city has improved 200%. People make mistakes no one is perfect. I'm not saying it was okay what he had done but he is paying a price for it. It's sad to see people judge others when they have done worse! Kwame may had made bad decisions for his personal life but, he was an excellent mayor who cleaned up his city, brought business to the city, made hard choices and most of all he LOVED his city. People need to relax and take a chill pill. No mayor of Detroit took the time to clean and make our city better without kissing the "white mans" butt!
Coleman Young refuse to clean and bring business to the city to keep city jobs. Archer kissed butt and didn't get nothing done. Kwame didn't and got the job done! Twelve years ago I was ashamed of Detroit, because it was a mess! Now I can stand up and be proud of where I came from. Because Detroit is a cleaner city and have a REAL downtown with big and small businesses . You can actually eat and party outside, go into cafe's and clothing stores because of Kwame. Yes Kwame isn't perfect and mad bad choices but the man has made a change in people lives and the city of Detroit. He took people out the projects and put them in homes. Some of you won't get it and some of you will. But having a home is better than having dirt and bricks for a place to live. If you never lived in Detroit for more than twelve years, worked in for more than nine years how could you comment on the accomplishment this man has made. The only way I see you judging a person for his mistakes is that you have made none.
I hope he learns from his mistakes and not take life for granted.

Kwame is a perfect example of a person without character. He is smart and educated but ignorant to the needs of his community. He really and truly didn't give a ratz azz about his commmunity. What he enjoyed was the high status he was beholding to. It's a sad commentary because he had a lot of potential and wasted it. However, corruption, cheating and lying is not specific to just black politicians in Detroit. We have a city (DC) full of liars and cheats, but folks don't blame all white politicians (whether they are mayors, congressmen or senators). For some reason whatever negative thing a black politician (or businessman for that matter)does then all black politicians act like that. If that is the standard then America should never vote for a white politician again. Wash DC has sucked this country dry without any remorse. Kwame deserves what he received by the courts, but all black politician do not deserve to be put in his classification.

This statement is for Mr. Ron Triplett and all other like-minded individuals.
Kwame is in jail! But not for things that he is not responsible for. The train station has been in total disrepair since I was a young woman, and I'm old enough to be Kwame's mother. White politicians and businessmen were responsible for that mess (especially the white man who has owned it for many years). Belle Isle is fine except for the times the white community comes in to sponsor their boat races, air shows, car races, etc., and the Detroit taxpayers pay to clean up after their mess. You should get your facts together before you criticize anyone. When you travel down Woodward, remember, these are buildings that rich white men abandoned on their way to the suburbs. What were Detroiter's supposed to do with these big, ugly buildings that were not maintained before the owners fled? Not only did they flee the City of Detroit, they did not pay taxes on these buildings. The ones who came back and paid 20-25 years worth of old taxes did so because they saw a way to make even more money to take to the suburbs. Mr. Triplett, you should do something to educate yourself and your like-minded friends concerning how things got to be the way they are. Rich white men started all of this.

I think its really unfortunate that this mans actions have placed him in this predicament. I am mostly sorry for his children but the time comes with the crime. While I do beleive that what he did was wrong and I am in no way excusing him, i think its said that theres have been hundreds or possibly thousand of crooked NON-BLACK politicians. And for the Ignorant man who blamed Kwame for the decline of DETROIT...why dont you take a gander at your ancestors who have destroyed cities, states and nations. The drunks, the theives, the adulterers, the slave owners, the murderers and con-men that have all graced the white house and countless political seats. SO IT IS NOT FAIR TO PLACE YOUR RACIST BELIEFS ON OTHERS. YES HE DID SOMETHING WRONG AND IT HAD CAUSED GREAT DAMAGE BUT ITS NOT BECAUSE HE WAS BLACK, ITS BECAUSE HE MADE POOR CHOICES AND ABUSED HIS POSITION. SO DEREK...I DONT DEFEND KWAME BECAUSE HE IS BLACK BUT YOU ARE CLEARLY A RACIST (AND IM SURE U KNOW THAT) TO ACT AS IF THIS MAN IS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEMISE OF A CITY AND YES OBAMA IN 08!!
