It's a yearly jaunt that's observed on October 31. The holiday is favored by many children who look forward to dressing up as their favorite superhero, Disney character or perhaps something a little more in tune with the occasion such as a witch, ghost or goblin. With costumes donned, neighborhood little ones and not-so-little ones alike can be seen throughout communities, knocking on doors in anticipation of the householder doling out candy, gum and other treats.
This has become a social event for adults as well. Many plan Halloween gatherings/parties and even host contests for the best , most original, funniest and most creative get ups.
If this is how you approach Halloween then the rest of this information may not be of interest to you. However, if you'd like to know its origin and the background of its associated customs, by all means continue reading ...
The Online Etymonlogy Dictionary gives this definition:
c.1745, Scottish shortening of Allhallow-even "Eve of All Saints, last night of October" (1556), the last night of the year in the old Celtic calendar, where it was Old Year's Night, a night for witches. Another pagan holiday given a cursory baptism and sent on its way. Hallowmas "All-saints" is first attested 1389.
The Encyclopedia Americana says: "Elements of the customs connected with Halloween can be traced to a Druid ceremony in pre-Christian times. The Celts had festivals for two major gods-a sun god and a god of the dead (called Samhain), whose festival was held on November 1, the beginning of the Celtic New Year. The festival of the dead was gradually incorporated into Christian ritual."-(1977), Vol. 13, p. 725.
The Celts believed that as the days shortened, it was necessary to reinvigorate the sun through various rites and sacrifices. It was believed that on the festival of Samhain, the veil between the human and the supernatural worlds was parted and spirits, both good and evil, roamed the earth. The souls of the dead were thought to return to their homes, and families would put out food and drink for their ghostly visitors in hopes of appeasing them and warding off misfortune. This practice continues to thrive in many latino cultures. Lets examine a few customs and traditions...

Personally, I love Halloween, BECAUSE it's my birthday! I've had many parties, and even dressed up, as an adult, to visit my friends......so, I remember my childhood days as FUN!!! I still think about those days, when Halloween comes around....I hope everyone has a great day!!!....Joyce Wigton, Butler, Pa. 16001

In my country it is the bigest day we celebrate the dead, the spirits are called "Guede." They come out to eat, drink, and " play." Some call it voodoo but that's the time we pay tribute to the spirits by drum playing and ceremonies. There're not dressed in costume but their faces are covered in white powder, dark shades, while enjoying a bottle of mixed run w/hot peppers in it and a "Cigar." It's also the day we visit the cementary of our loved ones and light a candle in their name.

It is sad to see that so many millions of people are being mislead by Satan. Satan wants people to believe that there is life after death. However, the Bible teaches that when a person is dead it is as simple as that. They are now in God's memory or spirit creatures in heaven not on earth. Anything else is what the Devil tricks you to believe. If you think you see a dead person it's not that person it's the Devil's wicked angels trying to impersonate(deceive) a deceased individual. Please read your bible(Ecclesiastes 9:5)

It has always been funny to me how people push their belives on other people, and if you don't agree then their is something wrong with you. First of all some people is not reading their bible. because every day is a holy day. Every day that God has created is to be celebrated. Hollow wich means holy and holloween is 1 of the favorite days to a kid besides Christmas and their birthday. Adults are at the stores excited to get home and pass candy out. Children are even more excited to see just how much candy they can get in one night without hearing their parents complaine. Now i belive in Jesus Christ and I live by what my bible has tought me. Now what the devil intended for evil God has turned and made it for good.
And i love to see the excitement in my kids faces on this day, so to me Holloween is such a blessed, wonderful day that bring total strangers together in such a wonderful way.

It is everyone's responsibility to know the truth about these so-called holiday's.which in turn were called holy day's;but these celebrations that so-called believers/christians practice is based on PAGANISM.ALL-HOLLOWS EVE,CHRISTMAS,THANKSGIVEN,EASTER,ST.PATRICK'S DAY,VELENTINE DAY,AND THE CELEBRATION OF THE NEW YEAR. Now remember the scriptures on what YAWEH GOD said the evening and the morning was the first day,not mid-nite to morning we are out of sync with the correct time and order of the day;because GOD will never conform to our way of doing things, even when it comes to the time of day, year, holiday, month. so people do the foot work HE said my people parish for a lack of knowledge.
