Last night, I booked my flight to Washington, DC so that I will be in place for President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration. I don't have tickets to any events yet, but to be present for such a momentous occasion is irresistible. To top it all off, I am from D.C. and my mom still lives there. There is no way I would allow her to have all the fun to herself.
Tickets for the inauguration ARE FREE and are being distributed by each congressional office on a first come first served basis. You must CALL THE OFFICE and request one or two tickets. Please note that many offices around the country have already closed their lists.

McAlvanah forwarded a press release from the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies warning residents nationwide to be wary of rogue Web sites that claim to have inaugural tickets. They don't. The committee assures all tickets for the swearing-in ceremony a) will be distributed by congressional offices b) won't be available for in-person pickup until a week before the ceremony and c) will be free. The press release didn't name any scam site already out there, but if you see anything that looks too easy, it probably is.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I DIDN'T KNOW THERE WOULD BE FREE TICKETS!!!! This article is absolutely right. I just called Bill Pascrell's office (he represents my district in Paterson, NJ) in Washington, D.C. and the secretary took my name. However, she mentioned that it is a long list, but you can request as many tickets as you want. I'm a college student at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ and this is the perfect opportunity for my generation of 21 year olds to experience watching history being made. IT'S TRUE YOU CAN CALL YOUR CONGRESSMAN AND THEY WILL ASK FOR YOUR INFORMATION AND PUT YOU ON THE LIST.

Thank you for the article! Even so, there will be those who will complain that they didn't get yickets for some reason that implies a slight to the. This will be another case of people being ignorant of a process or procedure that they should know about or ASK about, if they REALLY are who they claim to be -
savy about government, history, politics, America 's and the world's issues. When the complaints start coming ( watch the blogs about entitlement and slights), just remember that you tried!

I have an african-american friend to wants to take her 11year-old daughter to the inauguration. We thought there would be a price for seats and did not know they would be free. We will try for seats, but will come anyhow just to be a part of history. It's too bad there will be people wasting their money on the absolute scum-bag cheats and thieves who will be selling fictitious seats. I hope someone will be out there prosecuting these parasites.
