Since you may disagree with some of our rankings, we decided to make the Power List interactive -- so you can tell us how you'd rank our choices. Check out the "This Week's List" to the right of this posting.
Aside from the historic election of the first black president, British Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton is now a world champion. Last Sunday Hamilton came in fifth place at the Brazilian Grand Prix securing the world champion title making the youngest to ever win it and the only Black man to ever hold the title.
Michelle Obama will soon be the first lady of the United States. Enough said. That's power right there. (Her husband made last week's list.)
David Alan Grier, a comedian, is starring in the new Comedy show on Comedy Central called "Chocolate News." What do you think of it? Samuel L. Jackson is staring alongside the late Bernie Mac in the new comedy movie 'Soul Men.' Jackson obviously has the power and Hollywood juice to be in every single move that comes out, ever.
You might not know Cynthia McKinney, but she is the leader of the Green Party and presidential candidate in this year's election and a powerful female political figure of the future. We want to give her props for going against Barack, despite being overshadowed and hanging in there to the end.

Gheez, you have a comedian, an actor, race car driver, someone from the "green party", and the wife of the president elect of the United States. Michelle wins, hands own.

Well, this is an interested group but my #1 pick is Ms. Obama, #2 is Sam Jackson, #3 Ms Mckinney and last but not least David Allen Grier.

well guys, I agree with the first entry #1. Grouping like themed people or changing the name of the categories might get a more accurate/serious response. Or maybe this is just designed for trivial fun type experience and that's all good. However, if seriously considering 'power' then its the role of First Lady of the USA. Lord, what a joy to place Michelle Robinson Obama's name in that slot!! Have a great day all my brothers and sisters (those of like values and dreams; I don't care what color you happen to be!) I just happen to be a very proud African American female who is tremendously proud of America this day.

November 4, 2008 will never be forgotten, it was a night no one will ever forget. I am 65yrs old and never dreamed in a million years that I would see this happen in my life time. No doubt in my mind who the #1 pick sould be Michelle Robinson Obama should be placed in that slot. I am so proud of our country. I happen to work at the early poles in NC and it made me feel so good to see so many of our young people come out to vote and many for the first time, I would asked 35-40 year olds why haven't you voted before and they all said the same thing, it was no one to vote for. It's so nice to have someone our children can use as an example.

God is good, all the time! Most assuredly Michelle Robinson Obama is and should be Number One in everyone's book. Her quiet assurance, grace, warmth, unwavering loyalty and spiritual-based strength speaks volumes. If ever you would want a true physical example of the ultimate "Black Woman", Michelle Obama receives my vote. I would wish her Good Luck, but what has happened has nothing to do with luck, so I'll just say Continued Blessings and God Speed to her, the President-elect and those beautiful young ladies.

for some reason I have a problem ranking them at all. maybe it's because of the diversity of the fields we're talking about. but they're all so accomplished, I don't really see the point in choosing who's 'better'. why can't we just be proud of all they do equally?

I think Michelle Obama will make the best First Lady in a long, long time, if not the best ever!! Her committment to community people of all races, colors and genders is fantastic. I am praying that she listens to some of the Black women around her and puts her hair in cornrows for the Gala on Jan 20th, 2009!!!
