ince election night a few weeks ago, the passing of Proposition 8 in California--legislation that bans gay marriage--has become a hot-button issue among blacks, whites, Hispanics, etc... The reason: many Americans believe that freedom for all means the ability to marriage whoever you love, regardless of the gender. Others disagree.Where do you stand?
Simply put, Black Voices wants to know if you are for or against gay marriage.

Read the comments at the above site and then decide if the overwhelming opposition to prop 8 was influenced by the impact of minority voters.

I strongly oppose any marriage that is not man and woman. Why would I support such crap? Its unethical and down right immoral! And what is really sad, is these people have no clue that they are blinded by sin. I'm sure at one point they knew but they got so deep into that lifestyle that it no longer phased them. At that point God has turned their minds over to a reprobate. That is why they no longer care. Judgmental? Yes, but Zacharia 8ch.-16verse, gives me the right. But I'm not trying to preach but teach. Help those who have been hood winked by circumstance. Step back and take a new look at yourselves and demand the truth. It will set you free! If you need prayer I will pray for you, seriously!

Thanks Maurice for that website. I visited it and discovered that African Americans only make up 7% of the state. Which means we are not the blame for the outcome of prop 8. So try again my friend, find something else to blame on us. The truth of the matter is, I know I would have voted it down. I'm pissed that its even on the ballad. This is not about race this is about morals. And I realize many people don't have any! Wanda Sykes and the entire caboodle!

In the process of getting out the vote for/against Obama, more people in general came out to vote. People who don't usually bother to votefor whatever reason, Black, White, Asian and Latino, etc. voted this time and therefore there more opportunities for people to put forth their beliefs. It wasn't just Black people. That's the "problem" with voting. We say that we want more people to vote but we really only want that if they agree with us.
Personally, I think Gay people should be allowed to marry. Almost 50% of marriages end in divorce, so if Gays and Lesbians want to join that club of misery, I say let them. What they do has no effect on me and apparently, a whole lot of Black folks don't believe in marriage anymore so why care if someone else wants to get married or to whom they get married.
Gays and Lesbians might as well be miserable too.

Where is this comment about African Americans not caring about marriage coming from? We are only doing what the majority does. When in Rome do as the Romans do! I'm not sure as to where you are but I'm in the south and all of my friends, including myself are married. As a mater of fact we have been married twice! So stop believing what you hear because its only stereotypical bullshit! What ever is going on in white peoples families are going on in our families. You taught us well.

I don't believe they should be able to marry, civil unions are ok but not marriage. And the nonsense that African-Americans are to blame is so tired, its a fact that racism exists in the White gay/lesbian community why isnt anyone talking about that?

the demographics of the vote were discussed on CNN election night. As I recall, they pointed out that the Hispanic and Black voters of the state of California not only turned out in record numbers, but also opposed prop 8 in a definitive fashion. There is no "group" to blame for its defeat. A vote is colorless and the voters expressed themselves.

Has any ever reas Roman 1:24-32 where the Word says in verses 26-27 "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatutal, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecents acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

It is soo sad that we now live in a world where morals, values and ethics have almost become a thing of the past. That's one of the biggest reasons why this world is in the shape that it is in today. Nobody seems to have standards anymore. Everything is considered "acceptable" anymore, whether it is right or wrong. There is nothing right about two women or two men being together and marrying each other. And just because we now live in a world where standards have lowered, and morals and values are just about gone, it still don't make two people of the same sex marrying each other right!
