ince election night a few weeks ago, the passing of Proposition 8 in California--legislation that bans gay marriage--has become a hot-button issue among blacks, whites, Hispanics, etc... The reason: many Americans believe that freedom for all means the ability to marriage whoever you love, regardless of the gender. Others disagree.Where do you stand?
Simply put, Black Voices wants to know if you are for or against gay marriage.
Let us hear your voices. Please take the time to vote in our polls and then let your voice be heard in the comment box below or continue the discussion in our message boards.

Is is true that a person is born homosexual? Or a person is born a murderer or a thief or an adulterer? We are ALL born sinners and with that being said we choose to sin or we choose not to sin. What a person chooses to do is his/her choice and will ultimately be between them and God.
But if it is acceptable to teach acceptance towards homosexual acts in public schools, what's next? The people in jail for murdering and stealing have no rights and are being treated unfairly. Every person is to be loved and treated with respect and equality but tolerating and accepting sin is not cool.
The passing of the gay marriage ban happened. Know one knows what race cast the minority or majority vote, maybe all races cast an equal amount of votes, get over it!

It's always amazing to me when people (especially Black people) make statements like “what's next, polygamy, men marrying dogs?” - Personally, if a man found 10 or 100 sane, ADULT women to marry and they had love and happiness and there was no funny business with under aged girls going on – WHY WOULD I CARE! As for people marrying their pets – when you find a dog that pays taxes and can speak for him/herself then please feel free to bring up such a ridiculous excuse for keeping two PEOPLE from having the same rights as you do. I could just hear some slave master saying “what's next, if we let the Blacks marry then the next thing you know they'll want to marry Whites.” In addition, if you want to use the Bible (which is totally wrong) to keep someone from marrying perhaps you should read it a little closer and realize that it also says that eating shrimp is an abomination. So... perhaps you should start a campaign to keep shrimp eaters from marrying. But once again, your religious views should not have any barring on someone else receiving the same rights that millions of heterosexual couples take for granted each and everyday. I have no problem with people not believing in something like gay marriage or abortion, I personally would never have an abortion but does that mean I believe I should have a say in what someone else chooses to do with their body. No! If you don't want to marry someone of the same-sex then DON'T.

First off I will say that democrats are enemies of God!It is the party of lucifer who want to legalize gay marriage.America is God's country.Hallellujah!Give God the glory and deny gay marriage to all gays everywhere.God bless america.Gays are abomination, and I rebuke them all in the name of the lord!God bless the righteous for they shall inherit the earth. It should be illegal to be gay(out of the closet)in america, they should all be arrested, and jailed until God returns to judge them.

It is amazing how the selfishness of humanity can reveal itself through a consciousness that have been seared by their own selfish desires. It is not enough for them to be able to act out these desires in their private homes, and it is not enough that society have adjusted by adding benefits for civil unions, no, it is not enough, the freedoms in America, but what they want is for the world to accept their vile choices as NORMAL, and that my friends, is the wall that must remain strong against such selfish ambition. If you're going to be ugly, be ugly to yourselves and don't try and contaminate the world with your ugliness. ENOUGH!!!!

This is hilarious to me! To Jay, Jesus has a problem with ALL of it---adultery, divorce, AND gay marriage, especially since the Bible speaks against ALL of them! Besides, this issue should not have even been on the ballot for a vote. Why should I, a straight person, have to vote on allowing gay marriage? For the most part, I could care less if they're gay but if you ask my opinion, I'm going to clearly state that I really don't condone it---BUT as long as NO ONE is discriminating against you, then I'm fine. When I say discriminate, I mean, there's no 'Straights Only' signs or there's not any groups of people beating up on members of the gay community or they are being denied from jobs b/c they're gay. If their BASIC humanity is being attacked, then I have a problem. But should they get married? Why? In other words, this is NOT a civil rights issue--this is about preferential treatment. They're tossing it on black people b/c they want black people to see this as a 'civil rights' issue. It isn't. But I guess, someone had to play the scapegoat and in this country, that is almost always black people. I have no idea why I would think it would stop now. :) There were just as many white people voting no on Prop 8; meaning that Cali may be liberal, but they're not that damn liberal. :)

First Using the Bible of all things to segregate is ignorant and Shows a lack of education. Oh yes 15% of Americans get more than a 4 year college degree and among us Black American's that percentage is 1 %. ( now why should less educated be allowed to make such an impacting dicission. Sorry How I feel.
Civil rights do not belong to Black's, Jew's or any ethnic group. Marriage has long been defiled by straights. Divorce and the percentage of single mothers in our community is strongly growing. You have long forgot your vows of "To death do you part." What you had God join no man can undue.
Law to law can be debated as right or wrong, But freedom is to due what that masses have. Laws should be privilege free. Let God decide what fate has in store but no man should judge another. Ignorance and infecting our community !

Sounds like some good old-fashioned scapegoating to me. Why are blacks getting blamed for opposition to Proposition 8 when more whites and other groups also oppose it just as much if not more? And all races and nationalities have gays in their ranks. Who's taking racial poll and why? So they can find someone to blame for it passing or failing?
I personally don't care. I'm pro-choice on the matter. I believe true marriage is between a man and a woman but if gays want to get "married", by all means, let them in on the misery. The underlying issue seems to be legislative and concerns healthcare and beneficiary benefits but is being turned into a moral issue.

If you don't believe in same sex marriage then don't marry someone of the same sex, it's as simple as that. Who am I to tell another ADULT how to live their life? I have a hard enough time making the right decisions in my own life to try and tell another person what decisions are right for them. And for all the people who want to put God into the argument please take a moment and find the passage that says that little thing about JUDGEMENT...Those of us without sin CAN cast the first stone, now I don't know about any of you but I know I'm a SINNER. Also for all of the religous people I just want to remind you that the Church is a Hospital for SINNERS not a Showcase for SAINTS!!!We are all God's children and we've all sinned and fallen short.

I'm a christian so you know what the bible says about the gay relationship. I beleive we should love the sinner and hate the sin. If individuals are of that persuasion and choose to live together then a civil union is acceptable under the law. I will pray for them and offer alternatives such as Exodus International. We all have to stand before the judgement throne one day. Peace

It is SO infuriating to CONSTANTLY hear the BIBLE and JESUS invoked byhristian - zealots who are INSISTENT UPON shoving their beliefs down everyone else's throats . IT DOESN'T/ SHOULDN'T MATTER what it says in the bible about same-sex relationships or marriages - which is nothing that has any maening or value today ANYWAY . It also doesn't matter WHAT JESUS SAID , which rights as the majority . The issue is about LEGAL PROTECTTHE LAW . Why should gay citizens have to continue to be TAXED UNFAIRLY ajority of , who continue to deny us FAIR AND EQUAL TAXES AND THE SAME BENEFITS ALL OTHER COUPLES GET AND TAKE FOR GRANTED . Chuch and state - SEPARATE .
