Case in point: on Tuesday news outlets reported that Washington lawyer and former deputy Attorney General in the Clinton administration Eric Holder would be Obama's choice for Attorney General when he takes office in January and the nation's first African-American to hold the spot.
Now, of course Holder should be held to proper scrutiny and vetting and the media should do its due diligence when looking this guy over. But it didn't take an entire day before conservatives (whom I thought were supposed to be regrouping after they got their gnads handed to them on election day) decided to blast the cybersphere with all sorts of distraction about Holder.
I can hardly wait until Matt Drudge goes on the attack. ...
During his time in the Clinton White House only two controversies attached themselves to Holder, the first when he was originally appointed had to do with his opposition to the death penalty. Despite his opposition, he pledged to uphold the law as it concerned the issue, which he did.
The second was during the closing days of Clinton's tenure when the president pardoned Marc Rich, a commodities trader and Democratic contributor who fled the United States while being prosecuted for tax evasion and illegal oil deals with Iran. Clinton pardoned him on his last day in office in 2001.
Holder came into the picture when Rich's lawyer, Jack Quinn phoned Holder trying to test the possibility of getting a pardon. Later, he arranged a call between the White House and Holder asking for his opinion of the matter, which was neutral but leaned toward support of Clinton granting the pardon -- although the decision ultimately lay with the president.
In later testimony, Holder said that he was neutral in the matter, but the then Republican-led House of Representatives which was reviewing dozens of Clinton pardons had an influence on Rich's pardon. But that was it, he was not reprimanded or punished by any law enforcement agency or governmental entity. He instead went into private practice.
Now, all this makes me wonder why conservatives couldn't give the same scrutiny to disgraced Attorney General Alberto Gonzales who was alleged to have perjured himself before a Congressional hearing and wound up resigning in 2007 over the mess he made in the Justice Department after seven U.S. attorneys were fired for no reason. This controversy was the beginning of several including his gross misinterpretation of the constitutional writ of habeas corpus and the National Security Administration's eavesdropping controversy.
Perhaps the standards by which someone can screw up the most airtight legal organization in the world should be what we measure any new Attorney General nominees. Or maybe it's the opposite: maybe conservatives can let the vetting and selection process go through and then allow him to perform before he gets chided.
Rest assured, this is only the beginning.

When I see photos of President-elect Obama and his beautiful family I am filled with hope. I believe the man is open to all input unlike Lame Duck Bush. Maybe I am a naive white woman but shouldn't we look at the issues and the best people to fix the mess this country is in. Holden will do a fine job. Hasn't anyone noticed the mess Bush left us with? Has anyone noticed that he is white? It is time for a fresh outlook. I am also tired of old white men.

When I see photos of President-elect Obama and his beautiful family I am filled with hope. I believe the man is open to input from both sides (much more so than Bush and his one-sided approach)and will choose only the best for his administration. Obama will have to carry a heavy load, but I believe he is up for the task. Maybe I am a naive old white woman but shouldn't we look at the issues and the best people to fix the mess this country is in. From what I have researched Holder will do a fine job. Hasn't anyone noticed the mess Bush left us with? Has anyone noticed that he is white? It is time for a fresh outlook. I am also tired of old, blind, white conservative men.

Jesse:
Are you seriously trying to say that Obama is the reason the stock market is down and the economy is poor? So, Obama is to blame for the fall of the Lehman Brothers, AIG, etc? What planet are YOU on? I think you should take your own advice...Read, Think, and Read again. Did you ask all the supporters of Bush the same questions? Are you asking what is between Bush's ears?
Just stick to not liking the new Pres-elect for whatever reason. I am sure you can do this without making uninformed comments.

Blame- This is why dates and time are important. Have you noticed how quiet VP Channey is? I realize the pride of America is not represented well through some of her citizens. United to many is just a word. So sad, because we could be true leaders from all levels in this country Yes a TEAM.

Why is ANYONE surprised that P-E Obama is being villified? It goes with the territory (with a handful of die-hard racists thrown in for spite). Just think REALISTICALLY: Obama won with MOSTLY WHITE VOTES. That means that MOST WHITES ARE NOT RACIST. The racists just make a lot more noise and try to seem more numerous than they are, so DO NOT BE DISTRACTED. Obama has ALREADY been elected -- it's a done deal. Same for Eric Holder. "WE ARE THE ONES THAT WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR" means that we cannot wait for OTHERS to bring change, but we must do it OURSELVES, red, yellow, brown, black and white. This means that we have to focus on what we want to accomplish, not on the naysayers and oppositional ideologues. To change the country, we must first change ourselves, our priorities, the way we look at things. We have already won the political battle. Now we must win the battle against the status quo, against secrecy and "top-down" democracy. Where there is an uninformed, captive, ignorant and dependent people, there there can be no equality -- and where there is no equality, there can be no freedom. God bless President-Elect Obama ... and God Bless America!

Leave Barack alone, hes clever enough to choose wisely, he's done so properly before (what with the joke..Sarah Palin choice - leadership-being-thrust-personified).
Besides the guy he chose was a dep Attorney General with Clinton admin, so if he was ok as dep with Clint surely he's ok as AG with Obama, com'on guys.
Lets leave the race issues behind. If he were a shady white man, l doubt u wld have complained, but alas he got a spotless Black man.
