Some enterprising students at Ludlum Elementary, in Long Island have helped change the name of their school to Barack Obama Elementary. If nothing else, this is a wonderful reflection of the example president-elect Obama has set for youth the world over.
Obama now joins the ranks of other prominent African Americans such as Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Paul Robeson, Marcus Garvey and others who have this distinction. Kudos to those kids and kudos to this country for finally seeking change.

Why not?? Alot of name changes happen everyday, you just do not hear about it. God help you for not seeing anything positive and always want it to be negative. Try finding your plateform and make a difference instead of sitting the side tearing others down.

If they are going to build a monument, then SO BE IT! I think its a great thing. Its a good example that anything can happen. Let us support and not be so negative. The people have voted and it is what it is. GET OVER IT!!!!

I graduated from Ludlum Elementary in 1991 and I think that it is amazing that our school is taking on the name of our President-Elect Barack Obama. It is something that will go down in history. Negative remarks will come but the positive comments will shine brighter. God Bless You All. Remember to keep our nation lifted up in prayer.

shandela, i agree with you 1000%. why does someone have to be deceased as denverlev asked (which is completely false) in order to have a school or any other monument named after you? i think it's great that the children of this school decided that president obamba (enough of the elect stuff...he IS my president!) was inspirational enough to warrant a name change for the school. he truly is someone for people to look up to.

It is amazing what a pass he gets on everything...now they are naming a school...my God he hasn't even achieved anything except get elected!! He is not the messiah and until he proves his worth in my eyes I'm still skeptical...For the sake of the country I hope he doesn't implement socialism...wake up America we need to remain free to be free!!! I understand the pride the African Americans feel, but he is half white so are they going to stop with their racism? I hope both races will stop with all the hate and remember we are all Americans.
