The circus Kilpatrick created because he wanted to lie, lie, and lie some more about his mistress weighed on the city for nearly a year. Kilpatrick is also serving a four-month jail sentence as part of his plea. See Full Coverage
Now that it's all over (or so we hope) comment below and tell us what you think in this open thread.
Do you think Beatty deserves to do time for lying, or does the punishment outweigh the crime?

Wow let me see i have the spirit of J Edgar Hoover I see a promising young black star rising in a major urban city. I will use every opportunity to malign, slander, undermine, and otherwise disrupt and discredit this individual. My ultimate objective is to prevent the rise of a black Messiah. I have every weapon at my disposal and I intend to utilize them (Homeland Security Budget Undisclosed) at every opportunity. The Newspaper(s) Detroit Free Press are invaluable tools to help my covert rogue organization. I am a Gay master of Deception. I will use even a mans own sexual desire to entrap him. Them are just some of my tactics. (smile) I cant disclose any more and as they are Federally Protected by Executive Order, backed by the Freedom of Information Act and Patroit Act. In conclusion my name is George W. Bush Sr. and Jr. and I approved this message. May God Bless America!!!!!

I am a Detroiter. I have seen what these fools have done not only to those police officers' lives, but to the citizens of Detroit as well. They were blatant, arrogant, and in the end, defiant. They will pay dearly for their actions. Our prosecutor (my hero) made sure of that. By having pled to 2 felonies, they will forever be known as felons. If they had just pled to one felony, in Michigan, after 5 years they could have had their felony convictions expunged. One thing I read on this blog I need to clear up. They did not lie to a grand jury. They lied under oath in the police officers' whistleblowers lawsuit. They fired the Deputy Chief of Internal Affairs to keep him from finding out about their affair. They discussed it in text messages, but lied when questioned on the stand. But this soap opera is far from over. The Feds are indeed coming. The grand jury is already isssueing subpoenas regarding city contracts, kickbacks, non-profit cash being used for vacations, etc. This is just chapter one. This onion is slowly being peeled, layer by layer. Stay tuned!

She was a real arrogant person, you had to live in Detroit to really see how the power of her job had gone to her head. This is just what she got caught doing, no telling what didn't come to light.

May be next time the people in Detroit should vote for a more mature mayor....personally I would never vote for a Hip Hop Mayor...a guy with ear rings in his ears ..forget it...I am from the old school...next thing you know he be wearing his pants hanging down like most of the THUGS who adore that style...Kwame deserves what he got.....I hope most of the silly people who voted him in learn a lesson...and stop blaming "race" for his troubles...

I agree with the commemt that this situation for them is not over. Truly this will continue for some time. These people have distroyed any intergrity they may have otherwise held before the charges were made. I also totally agree that there are other crimes that might come to light. The children should not be marked by their parents flamboyant attitudes, and blantant disregard for the law, nor should they have to endure slander or mistreatment of any kind.

Part of the problem is press is givig them to much credit for being immoral they lied under oath so yes jail is where they should be. They are not the first nor the last unfortunately I bet now that they are both unemployed and going for broke neither one of them want to be with each other now.

I think its sad that this man had so much to offer and she obviously thought she could only prosper by doing the white girl thang... Only happens on the lifetime channel and the Soap Operas. So maybe while this red bone is sitting in jail she will discover that thous should not covet another womans husband and he too. but girl, we all make mistakes in life and I pray for the two of you.
What really bothered me and I know he was guilty from the start when he smiled and acted like its no big thing on the news. His demeanor portrayed to media was real arrogance. when you look at his wife in court your heartaches.
If she forgives him and sticks by him she is a damn fool. He will do it again and did he think about his family. She needs to cut her looses and move on. she is young. pretty, educated and obviously trustworthy. Leave that no good low down Negro and let him write to sweetie pie from the jail.
When I speak with people in detroit they love him and speak of all the wonderful things he has done. I say thats great but your Mayor has not used your funds appropriately.
