It's bad enough that the stereotype of overbearing, over controlling mothers is being pimped for 'reality' show ratings. But NBC's 'Momma's Boys', in which young men (with their mothers along for the ride) set out to find a
But the fireworks are really ignited when we meet Khalood Bojanowski, the mother of impossibly studly college hockey player Jojo Bojanowski. Because Momma Bojanowski is impossibly racist.
This is how she describes the girl she wants her boy to marry. Or, rather, the girls she doesn't want her boy to marry.
"I cannot have a black one. I can't have an Asian one," Khalood Bojanowski says. "I can't have a fat-butt girl. I just can't see that white and black thing right now because of the kids." Continue reading and check out the video. ...
But she wasn't done there.I don't have a problem with her comments. Yes, you read that correctly. Bojanowski is entitled to her own opinions. As a black woman who's been married to a white man for almost a decade, I believe relationship choices rest solely between the two people involved and anyone else (including family) can think what they want. Who cares?
"No, no Jewish girl. No way! No way! I cannot stand them," she says. "I'm sorry, but I cannot handle them. It has to be a white girl."
It's not as if Khalood Bojanowski shows up and the producers are shocked to discover she's a huge bigot. She made all of the above comments in the audition tape she sent to producers. SOURCE
My beef is with NBC in that Bojanowski, at least at this point, is being set up to be a one dimensional, derision magnet. And it's not that simple. The truth is a whole lot of mommas of all colors and ethnicity feel the same way Bojanowski does, at least to some degree. So are they all bad? Or would it be productive to have in depth sensitive and honest conversations about bigotry, fear and family? Oh, that's right. TV doesn't do that. So instead, here's what viewers have to look forward to:
In an upcoming episode of "Momma's Boys," Khalood Bojanowski blows a gasket when she sees her boy kissing an African-American woman.
"I'm going to kill him!" she says through her tears of anger and frustration. "I'm going to strangle his (private parts)."
We also get to see Momma Bojanowski screech at an African-American woman, "Don't ever put your freakin' lips on my kid!"
Charming.
Without having seen all the episodes, we don't know if Momma Bojanowski changes her bigoted ways. But, certainly, anybody who sees only tonight's episode will come away thinking this woman - an immigrant from Iraq - is a terrible human being. SOURCE
From my Psych 101 point of view, Bojanowski's rage is as much about losing control of her "kid" as anything else. I have to wonder about her son's true feelings about his mother knowing her views, knowing how she will be portrayed on the show and knowing what kind of on camera reactions his interracial love match will trigger. Looks like some passive aggressive pay back to me.
What do you think? Will you watch?

I think that it's sad that we still have to deal with lil racist issues like this. But we are in America and it's just bound to happen at some point of time. I just think that this is America and we have a free choice to be with whoever we want to be with. And for some people who can't get over that then oh well.
