At high noon January 20, Barack Obama will become the 44th President of the United States. Cognizant of its significance, Obama's embracing the monumental occasion by choosing to place his right hand atop the same Bible Abraham Lincoln used. Even more moving is that the entire event will happen on the stairs constructed from stones laid by slaves.
A record number of Americans are expected to be on hand in the nation's capital to witness Obama's swearing in. They'll be ready to party before and after this historic event.
Black Voices has compiled a list of some of the hottest parties, formal balls and black-tie galas around the capital. We can't get you a ticket (some cost $1,500) but we can tell you the chances of getting in! Where are the celebrities going to be? We let ya know. ...

YOU SEEM TO BE SO BITTER, I AM AFRICAN AMERICAN, AND I VOTED FOR CLINTON, KENNEDY, TRUMAN, CARTER AND SO ON, THEY WERE WHITE BUT I THOUGHT EACH OF THEM WOULD DO A GREAT JOB. NOW THAT WE HAVE ALL VOTED FOR OBAMA, WE ARE CALLED RACISTS AND EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE BOOK, DO YOU THINK FOR ONE MINUTE WE WOULD NOT FOR FOR THIS BLACK MAN, WHO IS INTELLIGENT, ARTICULATE, WELL-EDUCATED AND CAPABLE OF BRINGING THIS COUNTRY BACK FROM THE DEPTHS OF DESPAIR, THEN YOU HAVE TO BE EITHER A DIE-HARD RACIST YOURSELF OR JUST PLAIN IGNORANT. GET OVER YOURSELF, WE ARE JUST AS MUCH AMERICAN AS YOU ARE AND PROUD OF IT.

Obama showed a sign of disrespect to the office of the Presidency by going out to dinner instead of watching President Bush's farewell address. It was only 15 minutes. Bush has been extremely gracious during this transition.
