D.L. Hughley's not the only one getting a pink slip.'Chocolate News,' with David Alan Grier, has also been axed. Neither show completed an entire season.
Word is both 'D.L. Hughley Breaks the News' and the Comedy Central show will play through the rest of the month.
Maybe Grier will do better on the new season of 'Dancing With The Stars' -- at least he's got another job.
So why did these shows die? Was America ready for a black president but not two black comedians commenting on the news at the same time?
As one Baltimore Sun TV critic put it:
Were one or both of the shows offensive to blacks, as some have claimed or are we the nation of "cowards" when it comes to talking about race? ...
I'm no critic, but I think both shows were just okay. So I'm not surprised.

I'm glad Chelsea Handler & some of her "round table" guests aren't always PC. No race or religion is exempt from their zingers. If someone is being a jerk, they get called out.

The only difference between white on black racism vs black on white is... black people arent afraid to speak their mind... so sorry if the truth hurts. With white racism, it is much more insidious... but often kept SILENT these days. The discrimination is still there, but the only place whites seem able to SPEW their racist hate is while hiding behind a computer keyboard. Personally, I would rather KNOW who my enemies are....

I love watching chocolate news and i am upset that it is cancelled and p.s to the person who made the comment about having a show for white ppl called vanilla news >>>u guys already have that in nyc its called fox news channel and my9news and they both come on at 10pm...there was white ppl that were cast on the show so they can make fun of themselves just as we were making fun of ourselves so get over urself and take a big old dose of a CHOCOLATE SYRUP!!! How can u expect us to get over racism when u say things like how would they like it if we had vanilla news you have been running things since god knows when. whether u stole it from indians or whatever now we have a black prez and yall want him to fix everything that the last prez fd up and if he dont then he is the failure? ppl plz watch and support ur African american shows and businesses and ppl cause in this world the ppl at "Vanilla News" will never make us 4get that we all we got...so if we dont stick together we will not have anything

I love D.L Hugley. I recently caught his show and I thought it was pretty good. I first saw his interest in politics etc. on Bill Maher- huge fan- so I wasn't surprised to see he had his own show. I think he has a great presence and brought up current events in a pleasant non doom day way.
He had good guests. I don't think his show was for just blacks either- I think it was for everyone. I am white- supported Obama- I think I am pretty fair judging people by who they are- but I have heard that some people think that since Obama was elected alot of TV - ads etc. are more geared toward Black America. My opinion on that is - if it sells it will be seen- if the networks etc. can make money they will put it on for as long as they can make a profit- bottom line.

These shows failed becaused they sucked. Blacks are tiring of these coon acts. Hughley lost a huge female based when he agreed with Don Imus on the Jay Leno Show who was momentarily thrown off the air for his racist remarks that the black women on the Rutgers Basketball Team were nappy headed ho's. He said it was true he couldn't understand the uproar. I hope the area of the black minstrel shows is over. They pissed on black culture.

I've never heard of these shows; but, I rarely watch television - I read a LOT instead. I have always enjoyed the acting of both Hughley and Grier; maybe a news program just isn't their forte. Few actors can transition to a news format from a comedy sitcom or movies.

DL is very funny...but not on CNN. I can understand
the pick slip. Bill Mahar is perfect for that type of show..but DL just didn't make the grade. Jon stewart is the King of twisted news. Hard act to follow.
