Cops near Riverside, Calif., are accused of shaking down black barbershops for no reason, bursting through doors with armed SWAT teams wearing bulletproof vests."There was no evidence of criminal activity at these locations and no reason that these once-thriving businesses were singled out other than racial profiling," said Peter Bibring, a staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California, which filed the lawsuit. "These raids were a blatant violation of these business owners' civil rights."
At one barbershop, the police ran criminal warrant checks on barbers and customers, the lawsuit claims. The ACLU said a barber who objected was handcuffed and detained in a police car for 10 minutes. SOURCE
This is just strange. Would police ever burst into a Supercuts? I doubt it ... but people in the hair business say that it IS actually plausible. Hair and beauty businesses of all kinds get checked out by authorities to make sure they are up on their licenses and such.Hair Shack owner Kevon Gordon, a plaintiff in the lawsuit, said he and his customers were "treated like criminals simply because of the color of our skin."
"It was sickening," he said. "I have lost good customers and had my reputation called into question in a community where I've been working for 20 years. I wouldn't wish this on anyone."
I don't buy that. These officers had guns drawn! You don't need a gun to inspect a barbershop.

It is very sad that this is still going on in America. Racial profiling is something that I thought was in the past but it's obvious that it is still very much alive. Why cant people learn to love one another instead of judging everyone based on stereotypes and other things? I am waiting on the day when Americans will come together and become one.

Well if you are waiting for Americans to come together, hell will freeze over. White america will never treat blacks as equal. Hatred is in the blue eyes genes. We need to learn to love ourselves....

Riverside is one of the most rascist county's in Calfornia. Law Enforcement nor the judicial system is fair in this county. You will find case after case where blacks have been given longer jail sentences than whites for nonviolent, non-serious crimes. Whenever a police officer stops (most) blacks - they will have guns drawn, whether it be female or male. It's terrible what they are allowed to get away with. When will it stop?

The apparent racially motivated assaults on Black-owned barbershops by police officers who are able to act independently because their superiors come from the same culture and by their lack of action are complicit in this reprehensible behavior.
We as Black people must not continue to act as though we are powerless. As we continue to be attacked by the keepers of the "norm" we must react out of a planned approach;we must not concede that our destiny is controlled by others. We are Americans and must act on that basis. We deserve the best that is availabe to others based on the fact that we helped this country build a framework which is designed to provide the appearence of liberty and justice for all.The fact is, we will have to take our freedom. Let us begin by taking back our communities from the mauraders who have no regard for our humanity.

Is this all we have to talk about here on BV's all the time! Like we don't have issues that are far more important than this nonsense! Articles of this nature only contribute to racism. BV's sounds more and more like FOX NEWS everyday! And, here we are (some of us) black folks taking the bait! Enough!
