I got a call the other day from someone in the Obama Administration. I get a sense that key players in the administration read Black Voices in order to determine what the black community is thinking. While I found the correspondence with the official to be respectful and pleasant, I felt that my opinions on policy are not the ones that he should want the most. So, with all necessary respect to the privacy of our correspondence, I want to pass this onto you.
The problem for the Obama Administration when it comes to hearing from prominent black voices is this:
Black newspapers are dying and media is changing dramatically. So many of the black daily newspapers (and radio stations) that have traditionally served as valuable platforms in the black community are no longer in existence. Ebony and Jet magazines are having financial trouble. I would even dare say that the challenges for Essence magazine are likely protected by their merger with Time Warner. That leaves us with the Internet: a symbol of tremendous opportunity but a reminder of the grave despair of traditional media.
Black Voices is the leading black news website in America. By engaging with them, you have a direct voice into the Obama administration. The Administration needs to hear that voice, because they should at least be aware of the implications of their African American policies before they are released. I hope you will leave your comments and feel empowered to tell the president and anyone else reading what you think. I also hope that those in the Obama Administration who read those comments understand that our community has now learned the value of holding our president accountable, no matter what his race may be.
First and foremost, I'd love to hear comments on the success (or lack thereof) of President Obama's first 100 days in office. A video below breaks it all down. Take a look!

May GOD shower his blessings on this administration and their families. May they always consider the views and opinions of the people that place them in their positions, and that all decisions made are equally for the good of all people.

Obama isnot going to do anything for black folks. He's going to take care of whitefolks that's it. No politician has ever done anything in the best interest of black folks. Only thing they have ever done was lie and make empty promises

Manipulation at its best. Obama needs to find you versus the very organizers who showed him how to organize in Chicago? I ain't hating, but I hope you can guide him where we couldnt after 20 or something years of doing so.
I can't believe how he has got the best of us caught up in the "paralysis of analysis." I said " no he couldnt, but he said "yes he can, and DID"

I think the President is doing a great job. He must be overwhelmed with all that he has to deal with. As far as him getting elected, I worked for him on his campaign, and from what I could tel in the "numbers dept.", he had a huge support in the Black communities, Huge support in the Hispanic com., 62% of Whites voted for him, and the Independant party by a majority also voted for him. Remeber when he won the Iowa primary? Iowa is mostly white. Thats when we all knew he had a real chance to win. His support on College campuses across the U.S. was phenominal. But, now the tremendous amount of problems that he is supposed to fix immediately is insane. It will take awhile to get us back on track. But, he has already accomplished a lot I feel. The health care, is a big project, and of course the economy is crucial. Being a Global crisis, is what is making it so very hard. But, I have faith in him.

As an Obama supporter, I promised myself that I would not make any type of judgement of his administration's performance for 1-year. I am bit bothered by his cautious, generalized distance from African-American issues. He seems comfortable talking to all other ethnic special interest groups in a "listening", supportive manner. When he speaks to African American groups and native African groups (Ghana) he tends to lecture from a consertative slant. This tone tends to bother me a bit. I will continue to work and watch for the remainder of the year. There are a lot of progressive supports who feel the same as I do. The majority of Africans Americans in this country are working hard and trying to take care of their families. Maybe he should acknowledge that on occasion.

If President Obama is listening to or reading our "black voices", he too benefits.
Dear Mr. President:
Remember EXECUTIVE ORDER 8802. Signed by FDR. If it is still in force, Enforce it. Thank you
