As Judge Sonia Sotomayor undergoes Senate confirmation hearings this week in the hopes of becoming the U.S. Supreme Court's first Hispanic member, the head of the NAACP says this battle represents the next level in the fight for judicial diversity. "We've really got to get the Supreme Court beyond binary, beyond black and white," NAACP president and CEO Benjamin Jealous told Black Voices in an exclusive interview. "The idea is for it to be inclusive...we should have an Asian American Supreme Court justice, we should have a Latina on the Supreme Court."
Check out the video below for more of Jealous's remarks about Sotomayor and watch the live confirmation hearings here!
Check back with BV BlackSpin throughout the next two weeks for more portions of the interview, as well as reports from the NAACP's centennial convention in New York City.

I totally agree with your comments. Again Black women are left out again, and we still do not have a Black African American on the US Supreme Court. To my knowledge a black women wasn't even considered. President Obama and the Democratic party have lost some of my support. But what can you expect when a black man is raised by a white women. You haven't seen nothing yet. The NAACP should had been on top of the Stimulus Bill, when the Top Dems removed on parts relating to "that illegal immigrants cannot not be hired on jobs" as of the stimulus bill. We'll be calling the Hispanics racist in the years to come.

just because a person is from a certain ethnic group doesn't mean that person is pro.
for example take justice thomas compared to hugo black. black was an admitted(at one time in his early life) a kkk member, but he was a much better justice to the laws than thomas.in this case if you had a choice between night and day,you would have to pick day.

I don't know Y the people on this site think that Barack's nomination was his idea. All the president's of this so called Great USA is just a puppet on a string. They follow orders, and if they don't, their eliminate i.e. Lincoln and Kennedy....Need I say more. The two aforementioned were considered Renegades and Renegades are ELIMINATED!

When I was president of a branch of the NAACP in MN. We tried to create a coalition between the Blacks and Hispanics. The Hispanic leaders said that they did not need the NAACP to help them get anything. So now the NAACP see what is about to happen in the future, and they are trying be included. The Hispanics and Asians will become a political force, more powerful than Black Americans.
