Will Kennedy's Passing Impact Health Care Reform?

Politicians are wondering what effect Sen. Ted Kennedy's death will have on the health care debate and health care legislation.

In a New York Times article, titled 'Kennedy Death Adds Volatile Element to Health Fight,' the senior senator's passing is said to have possibly reinvigorated Democrats to push through the health care fight.

One of Kennedy's key attributes was his knack for getting "both sides of the aisle" to agree to get bills passed. I'm sure President Barack Obama is really pondering how to fully implement Kennedy's skill now.

As for how some Democrats and Republicans are responding since Kennedy's death, Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-Conn.) says, "Maybe Teddy's passing will remind people once again that we are there to get a job done as he would do."

A senior Republican official, though, is quoted as saying, "Democrats will rally, but they still have to come up with a bill that works."

One right-wing advocacy group, however, put its day-to-day business on pause:

Conservatives for Patients' Rights announced that it was suspending its advertising out of respect for the senator and his family.

After Congress reconvenes from its break, it will be interesting to see whether Kennedy's passing can facilitate health care reform. Only time will tell.
