Have you ever been in the grocery store and fantasized about "whooping" somebody else's screaming kids? Don't lie, you know you've thought about it. Even though living out your fantasy might have made your day, you probably didn't do it. If you had, you would be in the same predicament as Roger Stevens, a 61 year old man in Georgia who decided to take the discipline of a woman's child into his own hands.
After growing tired of listening to the woman's 2-year old cry, Stevens told Sonya Mathews "if you don't shut that baby up, I will shut her up for you."
After the child continued to cry, Stevens slapped the child several times across the face. Stephens then told Mathews, "See, I told you I would shut her up," according to the police report.
Police are charging Stevens with felony cruelty to children. The child was not injured but sustained redness to the face. The child's mother might even make some money from this incident, as I am sure civil charges will be filed. But this case brings up a great deal of sentiment within the black community.
Did you grow up getting spanked as a child? Do you think that spanking children is ok? What about the old fashioned stories about anyone in the neighborhood having the right to discipline the children in the community? Does it matter that Stevens was white and the child was black? What do you think his intentions were?
Obviously, his actions were illegal and he is going to pay a major price. But what does this incident bring to mind for you?

If it had been another woman that had slapped this child , the reaction would be very different. Even the very dad that are shown spanking his own child will get a negative reaction. It's more of a societal stigma of a man slapping a child, than anything that are bringing on the negative blogs. After I became an adult, and had moved on in life, whenever I visited my home town, I would go see the women that had lightened by behind up when I was growing up, hugged and thank them for how they help molded me into a decent man. Those days are gone. A police officer once said, When a neighborhood fails to help raise a child, that child will come back and terrorize the neighborhood". That is so true.

I am a single parent of two beautiful and also a teacher. Kids will be kids, however that man would be a dead man if he or anyone put there hands on my children. What if that baby was sick, you cannot expect that child to be quiet, that is there way of communication.

Karen,
That's just like a White person missing the whole point. The White person would rather complain about your writing than saying what another White did was wrong.

These racist trolls (Tired of Poor ME attitude) sicken me. Your life must be pathetic to spend your waking hours spitting racist nonsense. GET A LIFE. Troll some Klan website or a Rush Limbaugh fan club site (same thing?).

Not that this matters, but since you brought it up.... I think it should be THEIR not THEY'RE. THEY'RE is a contraction for THEY ARE. THEIR shows ownership. If you are going to attempt to correct someone, try your best to make sure you're (contraction for YOU ARE) right. But if you had stayed on topic, we wouldn't (contracton for WOULD NOT) be discussing this now would we! Be Blessed!

to:"Tired of Poor ME attitude"--you are still wrong--the correct spelling is their--they're is they are--get it right before you try to correct someone else

Actually Mister Nazi, the correct spelling would be "their"!!!!!! Since you know so much!!! And I agree wholeheartedly with the teacher!!!! By the way, when emotions are involved, especially pertaining to the protection of a child, PEOPLE ( you my good Nazi, don't qualify for this category!!!!) tend to type quickly and make mistakes grammatically! PUNK

Sorry, Tired of poor ME attitude, wrong again. It's actually THEIR, not THEY'RE!!! lmao. Maybe you should get a little education yourself before commenting on other folks' grammar. Your time would be well spent reading a book instead of trolling around the internet trying to spread disharmony and bitterness.

Tired of Poor ME attitude>>> do YOU know what spelling and syntax ARE? Do you know what a sentence fragment is? You don't? "Not to mention the inane comment," is one.
It is almost a given that people who correct the grammar, spelling or diction of others will make a mistake in grammar, spelling or diction while doing so.
Stop acting like a pedant and limit your criticism to substance rather than to technicalities.
Karen is fair game when it comes to substance.
