It's gotta hurt to be default New York governor David Paterson right about now. According to confirmed reports, the President of the United States asked Paterson not to run for governor of New York at the end of this current term. Paterson, who became governor when Spitzer had to step down, is facing plummeting approval poll numbers in New York. Obama reportedly fears that Paterson would taint the environment for other democratic candidates in New York. The president's don't-run message was supposedly delivered by Congressman Greg Meeks, who has a close relationship with the White House.
Defiant, Paterson has declared he will run in 2010."My plans for 2010 are to run for governor of the state of New York," Paterson said Sunday after serving as grand marshal to the African-American Day Parade in Manhattan. I am running for office.
Paterson's remarks come amid mounting pressure from Washington and within New York to drop out because of his low poll numbers and concerns from other Democrats that he might hurt their chances in 2010.
The White House has not ordered Paterson to leave the race and would not do so, [according to a White House official] saying only that the governor can make the decision about what's right for him, the party and the state.
But Paterson and his advisers have been made aware of Obama's concern about losing the governor's office in such a key state, the White Office official said. Another senior Democratic adviser in New York said those seeking Paterson's withdrawal are suggesting he could land a Washington job in the Obama administration.
The adviser spoke on the condition of anonymity because the official wasn't authorized to speak for Paterson or the New York congressional delegation. Source: Paterson Planning 2010 Run, Ignoring Obama, Huffington Post
Was this a gutsy move or a really disappointing one on Obama's part? I am leaning toward disappointing, particularly in the wake of Obama abandoning Van Jones. It is undeniably messy for America's first black president to step to 1 of only 2 black governors in the country and ask him not to try to retain his seat. Bigger than that, I don't understand why such a request was necessary. Without missing a beat, GOP chairman, Michael Steele, chimes in; and makes the point:
"I found that to be stunning, that the White House would send word to one of only 2 black governors in the country not to run for re-election," Mr. Steele said. He also questioned why the White House had not exerted similar pressure on Jon S. Corzine, the Democratic governor of New Jersey, who has also suffered from very low approval ratings. Paterson didn't display any authority or courage
when the New York State Senate was hijacked by his
fellow Caribbean scumbags. But now he wants
to display all this bravado toward a Black
American President. The American Black man's
worst enemy is the Island/Caribbean Black
man. The enemy you can't readily distinguish.
Caribbean Black men have a deep down resentment
and disdain for American Blacks. A Caribbean
Black man will call an American Black a nigger
Yankee faster a KKK Wizard could drop his hood.
All Caribbeans really. Latinos as have this
hatred toward Black Americans as well. Check
what happening most blatantly in California.
It is real.

Michael Steele, oh boy... He is another Caribbean Black male that harbors the same bone deep hatred toward the American Black Man. You know what... just as deeply, he hates himself as well.
Anyway, this ethnic weakling kowtowed himself, his authority, and his BELOVED Republican constituency to that of a talk show radio shock jock. That same talk show radio shock jock has called for a Black American President to FAIL.
Any so called American statesman who does not have the BALLS to stand up for himself, and his position of authority, especially against a traitorous ENTERTAINMENT figure is not fit or worthy for their office. Nor do they have moral authority or wisdom to speak on what's best for this country.
Paterson you are bad for NEW YORK. Your candidacy for re-election will not be fruitful in any way. You will destroy NATIONAL progress. New York is too pivotal to lose. New York must not fall back into the hands of the likes of Guiliani or any prehistoric character for that matter. You had your political 15 minutes. YOU chose to shine in that light as the Super Highly Affable Adulterous Incompetent Blind Man. Well the show has tanked. Please exit stage LEFT. If you choose to go to the RIGHT, thats fine too. Just GO!!!

No Obama lover or hater here...but what I know for sure...this is quite scary. I thought this was and is still the good ole USA. When did our President become our dictator. I am scared of you Mr. PRESIDENT. Who made you the BOSS and in so much control that no one can DEFY YOU? Now I'm for respect and all that but POWER corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Yall can play the emperor's new clothes if you want to and he's walking aroung stark naked.
Let the people of New York decide their fate. Is this still USA.

Wake up people. Patterson is the Governor by default and the reality is that he has about as much chance of becoming the Governor in the next election as a snowball surviving in hell. The president is only taking an aggressive role in trying to preserve a democratic seat that is surely to be lost if Patterson runs for Governor. We have a problem in this country of using "political correctness" to hide from reality.

The President also has the responsibility as the leader of the Democratic Party. The leader of the Democratic Party is well within his authority to preserve the viability of the Democratic Party.
Shuckin', jivin' Paterson should step aside for the good of the party.

What's so different from what Bush and his kronies did when they were in office. Bush didn't ask anyone if he wanted to do something it was done right or wrong, mostly wrong! Now everyone wants to say Obama is acting like a dictator. No birthers, teabaggers, etc...didn't hear a word from any of them. Our President Obama is trying to do his job let him do it!

How dare Obama tell this man, or ANY person that they should not run for office. He of all people should know how very wrong of him that was to do.
Seriously, will he be telling us what brand of toilet paper we can buy next? He's getting to big for his britches fast.

I agree...I don't think Obama should be telling this man not to run. He is getting to big for his britches and having too much control. It's getting scary.
